DRC (updated): Kason Martin talks about committing to UNT
GTWT replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Ben, if the stars & offers system is so damn perfect how come we're continuously hearing about all the three-star players leaving their P5 program & enrolling at Sam Houston State? Your 'perfect' system ignores how well a kid fits a system and it certainly ignores other important factors such as academics & character.- 74 replies

DRC (updated): Kason Martin talks about committing to UNT

"Damn close" to perfect? An how is waiting to see how a player develops "unsafe"? By your 'logic' we shouldn't even play the games, we should just add up the stars & the offers. -
DRC (updated): Kason Martin talks about committing to UNT
GTWT replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
If this commit holds this kid will have a good chance be an excellent pick-up for UNT. Of course, his lack of P5 offers will disappoint some folks on GMG who pride themselves on fortune-telling.- 74 replies

DRC: A look at UNT's nonconference schedule for the next four years
GTWT replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Rumor has it that it's a one-and-one with Oral Roberts. -
Every time a scientist publishes his work it is scrutinized. The problem I have with your argument is that it is the tack so often taken by those engaged in science denial - creationists, climate change deniers, anti-vaccine nuts. I don't think that's what you are, but you're making the same argument.

Science is a very human enterprise. Sometimes scientists fake their data. Sometimes scientists fudge their statistics. Sometimes scientists succumb to their biases. None of that is unexpected - you see it in all fields of human endeavor. Sometimes our political leaders lie. Sometimes our businessmen steal. Sometimes our faith leaders are hypocrites. The saving grace for science is that when a scientist is unethical, she’s almost always caught by another scientist. A scientist submits her paper to a peer-reviewed journal. It is reviewed by a number of experts in that field. Then it is made available to hundreds or thousands of other experts to read, study, and analyze. Do some scientists cheat? Yes. Bur the probability of getting caught is relatively high and the consequences dire. .

People will tell you that he'll keep you young. They lie. You'll age ten years in his first. Still, it's worth it. Congratulations!

Personally I agree with you. Still, the students have a right to make demands, even if those demands are silly. Here's another recent piece from the Chronicle of Higher Education talking about the efforts of a Republican state legislator to defund Evergreen: http://www.chronicle.com/blogs/ticker/as-new-threat-closes-evergreen-state-students-rip-legislation-that-would-cut-its-funding/118801?cid=pm&utm_source=pm&utm_medium=en&elqTrackId=431b51dc22604c898a162f9c64d27b08&elq=5dbe32924d9f431b98d2de633188b0b4&elqaid=14192&elqat=1&elqCampaignId=5958

Here's an article on Dr. Weinstein, the biology professor at the center of the controversy: http://www.chronicle.com/article/The-Professor-Who-Roiled/240267?cid=at&utm_source=at&utm_medium=en&elqTrackId=4896f9ef6c4c4a0b81cd471abc54aa85&elq=b3440c89e13f41a0bd56680f43ad5eac&elqaid=14196&elqat=1&elqCampaignId=5961

Would someone who knows more about recruiting than me (that's most of y'all) comment on the lack of OL on this list. That would seem to be a priority.
-
The article was from January 2016 which should make the stats for 2015 - I have problems with temporal logic.

Every P5 conference has strong programs & some not so strong programs. Year-in-year-out the SEC has more good teams & the Big 10 is a little lower. The bottom three tend to have fewer really good years. Last year was fairly typical: Overall Record, Winning Percentage along with Best and Worst Teams Record Winning Percentage Best Team Worst Team SEC 111-69 .617 Alabama 14-1 South Carolina 3-9 Big 10 105-75 .583 Ohio State 12-1 Purdue 2-10 Big 12 77-56 .579 Oklahoma 11-2 Kansas 0-12 Pac 12 90-67 .573 Stanford 12-2 Oregon State 2-10 ACC 98-82 .544 Clemson 14-1 Boston College 3-9

That's kind of like saying "one of the poorest billionaires in Texas". A good comparison of the P5s in 2016 can be found - http://thesportsquotient.com/ncaa-fb/2016/1/14/which-college-football-conference-is-best Based on their metrics the P5s rank: Conference Rankings 1. SEC 2. Big 10 3. Big 12 4. Pac 12 5. ACC

DRC -- Details of Seth Littrell's new contract
GTWT replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, Baker was able to use Coach Littrell's prestige to get us a home-and-home with Liberty. That's gotta be worth something. -
The dissidents asked that white students voluntarily stay off campus for a day. It's okay to ask. It's also okay to ignore that request. The feces hit the fan when a professor published a letter in the Wall Street Journal disagreeing with the philosophy behind the 'Day of Absence". Some students labelled him "racist" & demanded his termination. That, in my opinion, and assuming all my in formation is correct, was ridiculous & should be ignored by the administration.

Dang. He's been dead for 10 years. Must be long distance. -
After receiving my Ph.D. from UNT I taught for four years at a small church-related school in rural Tennessee. More recently (the last 10 years) I have been on the faculty of a medium sized state university. So I qualify as an academic. So my opinion of the Evergreen State issue is that the students have a right to demand any silly thing they want - that's free speech. The administration is not obligated to give in to their demands. Hopefully, a dialog will be fostered that will improve understanding by all viewpoints. Personally I wouldn't want to be involved with a college that would close without much more reason than appears to have been involved here. By the way, I've been following the story on 'main-stream' media so you're way off there. The Chronicle of Higher Education certainly gave the story a different slant than Fox News - maybe that's why you should read a diverse selection of outlets. By all means read Fox, but also read MSNBC. Also, Fox News reports that the closure of the college was for "public safety" not as a capitulation to the group of students. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/06/01/evergreen-state-college-closed-due-to-direct-threat-to-campus-safety.html

Naw, I'm fine Rick. I just need to have my pump primed - to borrow a term coined by our president. -

Maybe because the raison d'etre for a university isn't football. In my case both apply.
