You may want to double check that none of the other cable channels are picking up the game. For instance, I live in Florida but will be able to watch the game on CSS via Comcast without having to pay for it. I believe CSS will be showing this game throughout the dirty old south.

After reading some of the quotes from MTSU's players, I am starting to get the impression that they want this win more than we do. Both teams want to turn their season around, but MTSU is taking this game more personal. Then again, they have been wanting revenge for the past 4 years and they haven't been able to pull it off.

Does anyone know where I can get Coach Dickey wallpaper? How about a ringtone that says "We were out coached" in his voice?

Yea, but this roll coaster hit the bottom during the Tulsa game and started climbing again in the 2nd half of the Akron games. It will be back at the top by Saturday.

Here's to hoping he gets more opportunities to add to his stats in conference play. -
Bigger Budgets - Better Facilities
Green Jackal replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Because he was probably told that the job required him to be competitive against other similar programs. If they told him that he was suppose to have a winning non-conference record or he would be fired and then showed the schedule, he would of been crazy to take the job. Because no one has offered him a better job. No one is saying that DD is a BCS quality coach, but he has dominated the Sun Belt based on his overall Sun Belt record. I agree, some people on this board would probably apply for it and think they have a shot at getting it as well. We may even get lucky and find a coach who can win the conference 4 years in a row AND win enough non-conference games to keep everyone happy. If such a coach existed, then I think one of our conference mates would have hired him by now. Yes, they have lacked competitvenes in the non-confernece games. I think we have all been shown this by "simple math". That is why no one has offered DD a better job. If he was able to beat bigger programs consistantly DD would have been hired away from us by now. -
If your standard is how DD compares to the rest of D-1A coaches I agree that he is substandard. He is also paid a substandard wage in a program that is substandard by all other D1-A standards. If he was the coach in any other conference and had the same overall numbers, he would have been fired by now. But, under the Sun Belt standard he has been able to kept his job. If you want to hold him or any future coach to a higher standard, you need to give him the resources to meet the higher standard. Otherwise, you will be setting every UNT coach up for failure and create a revolving door for all future coaches that come here. DD has been successful overall in this conference with a very conservative and "boring" offense that is only frustrating to watch when we lose. Other teams in our conference run more exciting offenses but have little to show for it.

Someone should replace the PBR cans with Diet Coke cans. With this invention we could cut out the salary of the Diet Coke boy and roll the money into the new stadium fund.

I think Shiner is national now. They have it here in Florida as well now and I'm not just talking about specialty beer stores either. The chain supermarkets are carrying it now too.

Out of all of these teams, which ones don't have better facilities, bigger budgets, higher paid coaches and better recruits? Samford - no brainer ULL - I would consider them our peer, but their head coach is paid more than DD Troy - Same conference makes them our peer, but their current stadium is awesome Nicholls State - no brainer Florida Atlantic - no brainer That comes to 5. All of the other teams are in better conferences with bigger athletic budgets. So we did more with less on three of those wins (Baylor, SMU, Memphis). Now conference wise last year, we had several losses to our peers, but prior to that we were beating them consistantly.

Notice everyone has replied to this thread except for the 4 people who were invited to.

Substandard? By what standard? By Sun Belt conference standards we have been dominating our conference 4 out of the last 5 years. If you are talking about our non-conference games against teams that have bigger budgets, better facilities, higher paid coaches and higher rated players, than you are looking at the wrong standard. To use your anology, if you had 8 employees (representing the 8 coaches in our conference) and DD won employee (coach) of the year 4 out of the last 5 years, would you fire him? If you fired him, would you replace him with one of the other 7 employees? Wait, I think I know your answer. You would convince an employee from a bigger, more successful company who is making 3 times as much as you have in your budget to leave their plush job to work for your company.

Progress of Mean Green Football since 2000
Green Jackal replied to mad dog's topic in Mean Green Football
We are light years ahead as a team compared to the days in the Big West. We never even had a real shot at winning our conference back then. We would lose games 55 - 0 against teams in our own conference. Attendance was terrible at games. Progress has slowed since 2003 and 2005 was more like 2000 than any of the other years. Expectations are just so much higher now. But some people are just to unrealistic and emotional to deal with a team that doesn't meet their own expectations. -
I agree both sides of the ball are improving. The problem is so are some of the other teams in the rest of the conference. I think Troy and FIU are going to be our biggest threats in conference. All of FIU's losses so far were by less than 6 points. They could of easily been 4-0 right now with a little better execution: FIU 10, Maryland 14 FIU 28, Bolwing Green 33 FIU 20, South Florida 21 FIU 6, Middle Tennessee 7

Season so far & won-loss predictions, 2006.

We end the season at 6-6 with a 50/50 shot at getting in a bowl game (may not be the NO bowl). -
Memories from the Arkansas State board
Green Jackal replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
If BK was still on the team, I would convert him to RB. He could personally negate our poor offensive line performance by making his own holes. -
Is this board really that much more negative than the boards of other 1-2 teams?

How many Sun Belt conference championships has Troy won now?

I heard Miami just traded him to San Francisco for a 3rd round draft pick. Next week San Francisco is going to trade Cobbs to Kansas City for a 4th round draft pick, a new transmission for the team bus and 2 cheerleaders.

What is the difference between a good loss and a bad loss? Akron will be a loss. We have a shot at LaTech. -
Based on what, us beating them? SMU played as expected against Tech, a top 25 team. It is way to early to judge SMU after only two games. Now if they lose this Saturday to a D-1AA team or if the game is even close, I will completely agree with you.

I was hoping that Rancid had written a song about the Mean Green.

I know we have had buses available for other games in the past. I bet if we had a sign-up booth sitting outside of Fout's after the SMU game we could of filled several buses up with students.

UNT/SMU where to get tickets early

Yes, we may get close, but there is no way it will be a sell out.
