DRC: Baker defends UNT's right to "Mean Green"
LongJim replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Wow, I would hope MSU was not on board with this. Very embarrassing look for them if so. -

Good post, but IMO, I'd like to see a bit more consistency from the DB's more than anything. For me, that's much more critical. I agree that Wilson is a special back. In the 2013 season, you had a good QB, a very good receiver, and a great back. 2017 team has a good QB, a very good receiver, and a great back. No coincidence UNT offense is playing well. I need to see a little more from the defense before I pronounce this team a championship contender, but yeah, signs are encouraging. Want to see how next game goes for sure. -

They wanted to stuff Wilson and stop the run. Make Fine beat them with his arm. So he did.- 10 replies

If you haven’t read this thread, please do...

While on our way back from Florida this summer, we stopped outside of Hattiesburg for a great BBQ meal. I had a long, fun conversation with a big USM supporter/coach/ex-football player, who was filling me in on how he felt the Golden Eagles were going to be much improved this year. He was respectful regarding UNT, but I could tell that he believed USM would have no trouble with UNT this year. He also told me a couple of stories about RV that were pretty cool. To sum it up--I got the feeling from that thread, and from the ex-coach that many USM folks thought this game would be a W. -
Questions about Mean Green football for pre game show needed

Defensive improvement against the run has been encouraging, but long pass plays have hurt. What's the solution? -
Broncos aren't laying down. Go Broncs!

To make other teams have to prepare for a fake or 2 point play.

Amen.

If you say so.

I have to say that that flag looks awesome. I hope the AD will consider lighting it while it's flying at night. Would look cool.

It's gonna be a rough rest of the season

I agree about the 4th down call. You punt there. Game was a bit Dodge-esque, except UNT would've lost on a missed or blocked FG. I see 3 "should wins" remaining, and possibly 2 maybes. We'll see, but tonight was a W. -
I have 2 GA available for UAB. PM if interested!

I have no problem with moving icons of the Confederacy (statues of Lee, Jackson, whatever) off of state property to a museum. Some folks are offended to be reminded of history, and I get that. I think the state needs to be respectful of all citizens, and avoiding some kind of bias is a good thing. I have a problem with memorials to Confederate soldiers being defaced and destroyed. I think they should also probably be moved to areas designated as memorial areas though, so those that might be offended by them can avoid that trauma. Having said that--my great great grandfather served in the CSA here in Texas, and was called up from his farm, and head of his household at 46 years of age--leaving 5 kids and his wife behind to take care of things in Ellis County while he was gone. A great uncle was shot and killed at the Battle of Pea Ridge in Arkansas. I would like to think that there could be some kind of memorial to those that served without its existence threatening someone's self-esteem or identity--or whatever. Regardless, I'll pass down the knowledge to my kids myself, because there's "good" and "bad" in America's past. Knowing that is a good thing, and none of us should ever forget it. We need more reminders, not less. Ask an "Indian"--if you can find one.

It's in a perfect location for visibility.

Props to the offense, but really impressed with defensive play overall.

Those are just excuses, right? *insert grin here*

I thought it was interesting that Boise State's stadium was at less than capacity for the game.
-
I agree with this. The AF bowl is a MUCH better bowl, stadium, and location. And, if you put UNT fans in that stadium against a service academy, you will probably have a sellout.

I was glad Fine got up and had his faculties after a couple of hits he took in the first half.

I'm going with 7-6, which is what my heart tells me.
