NT finished 3rd in Burbas Cup standings ahead of other Belt teams that got Directors Cup points. Football is down, but NT had a 3rd straight 20 win season in men's basketball, soccer finished second in the Belt and was Regionally ranked at the end of the season, Women's tennis was rated #8 in the Southwest Region ahead of teams like LSU. Softball was about .500, but improving. So do you really think the entire NT athletic program is far behind everyone else ?

Florida International University Games Will Be More Quiet Next Season POSTED: Wednesday, June 24, 2009 UPDATED: 10:59 am EDT June 24, 2009 WEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. -- There will be no marching band or cheerleaders at Florida International University football games this coming season. FIU is no longer funding the band or cheerleaders. The university blamed the economy for the cuts. It reportedly costs more than $200,000 to fund the band and $25,000 to maintain a cheerleading program. FIU's dance team, the Golden Dazzlers, will stay. The cuts come after FIU spent millions on a new stadium for the football team, and hired high-profile basketball coach Isiah Thomas.

Two games were played at Texas Stadium. SMU & UT Arlington. SMU attendance was 26,097. Don't know the UTA attendance but our game with them at Texas Stadium in 1979 drew 21,800. This 1977 team was ranked #16 in the final Coaches poll. 10-1 record (Lost to Florida State and converted a 17-15 loss to Miss State to a win due to a forfit)

Actually the muts came into the game at Fouts huffin' puffin' & struttin' with an undefeated 4-0 record. Wins over Vanderbilt, Troy, ULL and ULM. (they finished the season with a 8-3 record with losses to Mississippi, LSU and UNT).A winless UNT team knocked 'um around pretty bad with some hard nose football. Hicks their star RB was knocked out along with another RB and their QB spent the afternoon running for his life. The muts came in as the conference glamour guys and left like evacuees from a MASH unit. Hard-nose, hard-hitting football left the muts shocked and dazed wonderin' what the hell happened !
