Smu Coach Confident Opener Will Be A Sellout
MeanGreen61 replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
If that many show up SFA has a bigger following than I thought ! -
Folks frequently mention Riley being offered/committing to Texas as an 'Athlete'. Remember he also had offers from Rice, SMU, Tulsa and Missouri. A lotta folks were impressed with this young man. Wonder how many we looking at him as a future QB for their team ? http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewp...mp;pr_key=48938

Phil Steele - Sun Belt Team Of The Decade
MeanGreen61 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
And it's better to have won earlier than not at all. -
Off the Troy board. SBC team of the decade (Phil Steele) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Phil Steele's Daily Blog - Monday July 6th I took a look at the teams of the decade this past week for the 6 BCS conferences. Now lets take a look at the non BCS conference schools and I will do it in two parts. The Sun Belt began in 2001 with North Texas, Mtenn St, New Mexico St, ULL, ULM, Ark St and Idaho. In 2003 they added Utah St. In 2004 Troy joined the league as it grew to 9 teams. In 2005 Utah St, Nmex St and Idaho left for the WAC and taking their place was Florida Atlantic and Florida International putting them back at 8. Western Kentucky joins this year to get back to 9. Here are the 8 year standings for the Sun Belt TROY 25-9, 73.50% FLA ATLANTIC 16-12, 57.10% MIDDLE TENN 30-24, 55.60% NORTH TEXAS 30-24, 55.60% NEW MEX ST 15-14, 51.70% ARK ST 27-26, 50.90% LOUISIANA 25-27, 48.10% ULM 23-29, 44.20% UTAH ST 5-9, 35.70% IDAHO 10-21, 32.30% FIU 7-21, 25.00% North Texas dominated the start of the league with a 25-1 run in the first 4 years with 4 league titles and appeared to have a lock on the team of the decade honors. Since then they are just 5-23 which is shocking. North Texas still has the lead with 4 league titles while newcomer Troy has dominated as of 3 winning at least a share of the last 3 conference titles. Middle Tenn St has 2 and ULL, Ark St, ULM and Flordia Atlantic have 1 each. If Troy wins the title as I expect this year than I would crown them team of the decade. The only challenger is North Texas and if they won the Sun Belt this year they would have the most conference wins and most titles and win it.

Not exactly. WW commented during Media Days that conference AD's want to remain at 4 home 4 away leaving 4 OC games. From a post on the Belt board. 1.Waters said the league has discussed requently with ADs what the league should do with conference scheduling when South Alabama joins the football conference in 2012. With WKU entering the league, each team can play 4 home league games and 4 road league games, which is excellent. He said there are leagues that have experimented with 9 league games and the Sun Belt has talked with those leagues. He expects eventually it will be an economics based decision. Right now, he said the ADs seem to prefer a continued 8 game conference schedule with a rotation of the missed game each year with the exception of one common opponent every year (he gave the example of MT and WKU as one permanent opponent possibility). Waters said if attendance for league games improves in the next couple years that they might consider playing 9 conference games, but right now the ADs need the flexibility of having 4 non-conference games to make sure bills get paid.

MeanGreen61 replied to GabeGMG's topic in Mean Green Football
Received an e-mail about the chat so I'm sure most folks at gomeangreen.com received the same. Also mentioned an upcoming chat with Todd Dodge. Live Chat with Athletics Director Rick Villarreal, Wednesday at 11 am Tomorrow at 11 a.m. mark your calendars because that’s when North Texas AD Rick Villarreal will be here to take your questions live in our first live chat on MeanGreenSports.com. We hope everyone out there can stop by for a few minutes but we also understand if you’re going to let work get in the way of that. So to accommodate those with questions for RV we are going to take your e-mails now and he will answer those starting at 10:45 a.m. until we fire off the live ones. Added bonus, the best e-mail or live question will win a yet to be determined prize from out vault. askathletics@unt.edu Plus put down next Monday, July 27 at 11 a.m. That’s when Todd Dodge steps into the live chat ring and takes your questions for a full hour as well. If you want to go ahead and e-mail questions in for Coach Dodge, feel free to. Keep in mind there are some ground rules for him, no recruiting talk, leave that to the novices -

http://www.pigskinpress.com/sunbelt_conference.html North Texas-Todd Dodge Dodge has done a great job of recruiting thus far, now it’s time to put up or shut up! Nearly every starting player will be a Dodge recruit, and now North Texas has to win some games. If the Mean Green can get four wins, we will consider that a success; after all, they are still a young team. Another one or two win season will be serious cause for concern in Denton. Stock: Steady D-Defensive Improvement- Both Louisiana and North Texas have a chance to be competitive with the large majority of their defenses returning in 2009. If they continue to give up big numbers (33.7 ppg and 47.6 ppg) to opposing offenses, there will be some hot seats for both Ricky Bustle and Todd Dodge! V-Victor Gill- The North Texas tackle will get first crack at protecting QB Riley Dodge, who is the most heralded player in conference history. Gill started 11 games last year and did a good job, but will need to be quicker to the point of contact on the pass rush. X-X-Sooners- Both UNT WR Tyler Stradford, and Troy WR Josh Jarboe will be significant offensive weapons in their respective systems and open the door to other great players who are riding the bench at Big-12 schools.
