  3. Proposed by Tallgrass in a CUSA thread. RE: Send out the invites: C-USA 16 Assuming Syracuse, Rutgers, and Pitt to Big Ten and Uconn (travel partner to Boston College) and West Va (travel partner to Maryland) to ACC, I have my fingers crossed that this is the outcome. It keeps travel costs low and keep them lower by playing 6 division games and only 2 crossover games within the conference: CUSA/West with Travel Partner: USM/Tulane Houston/Rice SMU/UNT Tulsa/UTEP CUSA/East with Travel Partner: Cincy/Louisville ECU/Marshall UCF/USF Memphis/UAB http://ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=434515
  4. http://www.810whb.com/article/3527 Big Ten makes initial offer to Big 12 pair The Big Ten Conference has extended initial offers to join the league to four universities including Missouri and Nebraska from the Big 12, according to multiple sources close to the negotiations. 5. http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation So with four teams gone from Conference USA, expansion will likely open up into the Sun Belt Conference and perhaps even some of the WAC. Louisiana Tech could be a target, as could Middle Tennessee, Troy and North Texas, which would give C-USA back its presence in the Northern Texas/Oklahoma area.
  6. USA was already a member of the Belt making their new football team an automatic addition. USF and UAB were originally basketball schools in CUSA maing their startup football program automatic conference additions. With the reported major conference shifts in the near future, who's to say that either/or Texas State/UTSA will make it to the FBS division ?
  7. You're making assumptions and saying those who don't agree or accept what you say have their head in the sand. Rather than see scheduling problems caused by a non-existant team in South/Central Texas 300 miles away and Jerry World extravaganzas, we will most probably see more attractive OC home games with the opening of our new stadium.
  8. UTSA hasn't really taken any future games away from UNT. At this point they are a school without a team, without a FBS classification and the scheduling future games doesn't necessarily mean they will be played.
  9. 80, are you developing a UTSA obsession ?

  13. Posted by Tallgrass in a thread on the new Mean Green Stadium. UNT is the CUSA/West's version of UCF....and Houston and UTEP, the large public schools with strong academic support from state government financing, a large student enrollment, a large alumni base, and a potentially large tv audience. USF and some BE schools perceived UCF as a threat. Now, IMO, BE probably wishes they already had invited UCF when the current BE structure was put in place. I think the situation for UNT is similar to UCF. UNT is probably now viewed as a threat by some CUSA schools; but, eventually, my guess is UNT ends up in CUSA and ends up being a huge positive for CUSA/West. I think La Tech is marvelous; they have done so much with the resources they have. But, if CUSA/West were to expand, my vote goes to UNT. UNT provides protection in case CUSA/West lost a Houston, SMU, or UTEP....and helps with the Dallas Classic Bowl and Armed Forces Bowl. If the hypothetical situation were to develop that CUSA did not lose any current team due to a BCS conference's expansion, then I think maybe CUSA might want to take a look at going beyond 12 members and to investigate if that would increase CUSA's tv dollars, etc. In the past, UNT could be ignored. But, now, UNT has grown both academically, sports wise, and enrollment wise to the point they cannot be ignored. There are two schools in the neigborhood that downgraded their programs...it proved to be a terrible mistake. But UNT has now recovered but it has hurt them in that it has placed their progress years behind. UNT should be today what UCF is now. The other school that badly blundered in the neighborhood was Oral Roberts. Unlike UNT, ORU has not recovered and probably never will. Regarding possible CUSA expansion, throw FIU in the mix with UNT for the same reasons. THREAD - STADIUM IN THE RAW http://ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=433999

  20. Saw on the Texas State board that Garland Warren, founder of the Sac-n-Sav stores passed away this past weekend. He was a Denton Hi grad, a three year letterman at North Texas (1955-57)and an all-pro in the CFL for several years. He lived in San Marcos.
