  1. CUSA thread on conference strength with Boise gone. Some interesting comments about Sun belt http://ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=439707
  2. “To move forward, we definitely have to change the face of our football program and win games,” UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal said. “I have made it very clear that we are not going to continue on the track that we have been.”
  3. Exerpt of post by HawaiiMongoose on the WAC board. So, I suggest an offer to North Texas as a mutually-beneficial marriage of convenience. It would be with the acknowledgement and understanding that NT, just like Louisiana Tech, ultimately aspires to a home in Conference USA. However, joining the WAC would be a good short-term step up for North Texas, putting the Mean Green in a stronger conference than the Sunbelt with more respected opponents and better TV coverage and travel that's only marginally worse than what NT faces today. The benefits to the WAC of bringing aboard NT have been addressed in other threads, but they include proximity to NMSU and Louisiana Tech, a decent academic reputation, excellent facilities (a new 30K stadium is scheduled to open next season), some strong teams (notably basketball which has been to the NCAA twice in the past four years), and easy access (a short drive from DFW airport). It's true that the NT football team has been down recently, but historically it has done well, with four Sunbelt championships in the past nine seasons.

  8. Latest Chip Brown twitter Texas stands to make between $20 mil and $25 mil per yr under a proposed new TV pkg presented by Dan Beebe, plus UT's own network. 30 minutes ago via TweetDeck . I'm not backing off this story about Texas willing to commit to a remodeled Big 12. 43 minutes ago via TweetDeck . My sources say Texas is committed to coming to the table with the 10 remaining B12 schools to see if there's consensus for the Beebe plan. about 2 hours ago via TweetDeck

  10. http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/drc/sports/stories/drc_untseriesII_0614.9eedf11e.html EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is the second in a three-part series on North Texas and conference realignment. Today’s story focuses on UNT’s strengths as a program, including its men’s basketball team.
  11. Mostly positive thoughts about UNT by Fresno posters. That's certainly a switch from some of the other boards.

  13. http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/archives/2010/06/realignment-series-part-ii-tho.html But if you look in tomorrow's paper, there are plenty of reasons to be hopeful if you're a UNT fan.
  14. http://eagletalk.net/2010/06/11/wait-and-see.aspx A source close to the North Texas program talked with Eagletalk.net to give some information about what the program is doing. North Texas does have “it’s eyes and ears open” to everything that is going on as “everyone else in the college world is.” North Texas and many other programs are in the same situation as many football fans are. No one knows what is going to happen and for the most part UNT is in a wait and see mode like the rest of us. No one knows how small or how big this shift will be.

  16. Post on the Blt board by Arkstfan sez FedEx is denying that the article is true. FedEx has issued a statement denying all parts of the article (except presumably that Fred Smith is CEO).

  23. With Colorado, Texas, A&M, Tech, Nebraska, OU and OSU leaving the conference drops to five. Is it correct that to maintain their NCAA credits and BB auto bid that the number playing together for x number of years must be six ? If the conference applied for an exemption to rebuild #s wonder if the NCAA would grant it ? With a core of Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, K-State and Missouri they should be able to attract 7 pretty decent teams from other conferences. Thoughts ?

  25. http://www.idahostatesman.com/2010/06/12/1227965/mountain-west-might-expand-again.html#ixzz0qe4G7uRO We'll know more Tuesday when Texas regents meet to take action on conference realignment. If Texas and its cohorts bolt for the Pac-10, as expected, it's open season for poaching. Thompson - and other conference commissioners, including Conference USA - aren't waiting for any official signal. They're going to work already Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe said it would be up to any remaining schools whether they want to restore the league with different membership, perhaps picking off the best of the Mountain West and others. "We have an analysis of many institutions that they could consider combining with if they wish," Beebe said.
