  1. Times have certainly changed. In the past, patrol division officers usually had a high enough volumn of calls/assignments that writing an average 5-10 tickets a day was virtually impossible. A different story with traffic division officers whose primary responsibility is traffic control.
  2. Constables should be limited to serving civil papers.(As they once were).
  3. Not exactly the way your post read or inferred. Unless the evaluation process has drastically changed, ticket writing is a small portion of periodic performance and fittness evaluations.
  4. From your post Boards is plural. They absolutely do. Some even have large boards showing each officers production in the briefing rooms for all officers to see. I've seen boards that count a traffic ticket the same as a self initiated felony arrest. I've known guys who lead their shift in felony arrests, and still get called in and counseled on their lack of citations (which is completely legal as long as you don't put a number on it.) At some places, you can answer more calls than anyone on your shift for the month, yet still get a bad performance review for a lack of self initiated activity in traffic enforcement.
  5. Funny man. Forgive me if I just won't take someone's word that they have seen boards giving the same value to a traffic ticket as a felony arrest in a number of police departments without them naming the departments.
  6. Well, guess I won't have the pleasure since I live over 400 miles away and won't be attending.
  7. You made the allegations on a public forum so why the reluctance to back up your claims ? You are posting using a "handle".
  8. You are absolutely sure and say some depaertments count a traffic ticket and self initiated felony arrest as equal. NAME TWO DEPARTMENTS THAT YOU KNOW HAVE THIS POLICY PLEASE.
  9. For sure,he'll never have the opportunity to torture and kill again. Also tax payers won't be responsible for providing him with food, clothing, a bed and lifelong medical and dental play. Good ridance.
  10. Some folks will always bitch and moan about the police.....until the need one.
  11. My last on the subject http://lawprofessors.typepad.com/adjunctprofs/2008/11/a-police-force.html The Appellate Division said that "A police force is a quasi-military organization demanding strict discipline" and "great leeway” must be accorded to “determinations concerning the appropriate punishment, for it is the [Chief of Police] . . . who is accountable to the public for the integrity of the Department."
  12. T You are just playing a game of semantics. Think what you will, but there is really no debate about it. The police are now and have always been considered as a semi-military type organization. Ranking structure, chain of command, etc. If you have a problem with them calling non-police officers civilians, then so be it. Your opinion still won't change a thing.
  13. Police are a semi-military organization and have always referred to non-officers as "civilians" or "citizens". Even when off duty, officers normally carry their badge and weapon. Ironically certain organized crime groups also have referred to the general public as "civilians".

  15. If you don't speed, you don't have to be concerned about so called speed traps. Obeying the law is so much easier than complaining about peace officers enforcing it.
  16. French is the official language of Montreal and the province of Quebec.
  17. Former Dentonite Garland Warren honored by Texas State with helmet sticker. Garland graduated from Denton high, was a star player for the Broncos, lettered 3 years at NT and was a CFL All-Star player. Heard that years back, something happened to make him disconnect from North Texas. Bobcat fans article http://bobcatfans.com/archives/2458
  18. North texas Pass protection. With two quarterbacks getting knocked out for the season early on and with Riley Dodge getting bounced around, the offensive line has got to be Job One for the new coaching staff to work on. The O line did a great job at paving the way for Lance Dunbar, arguably the league’s best player, and the running game, but it has to do a much, much better job against the better pass rushing teams. http://cfn.scout.com/2/1047870.html
  19. North Texas Experience might not make up for the talent level. UNT has always had players that look like they should be better, but they just aren’t. Even with the defense playing better than it had in years, and even with the best running game in the Sun Belt, the final record was still 3-9. While the potential is there to do big things right away under McCarney, it’s asking a lot for the talent to shine through to make a huge jump. http://cfn.scout.com/2/1047873.html
  20. North Texas Injuries. The one plus side to all the injuries the 2010 team suffered is that it threw a ton of unproven players to the wolves and got them enough experience to count on going into this year. 16 starters are back from the team that finished up the end of last season battling with Kansas State and Troy, and that doesn’t include the 12 starters lost to injury with most of them coming back. The team is not only getting plenty of experience back for Dan McCarney to work with, but it’s loaded with ready depth. http://cfn.scout.com/2/1047874.html
  21. If you look closely............UNT has a higher % of students living on campus than UT. (#of undergrads from gov't site 2009) UT 35,107 undergrads, 7927 on campus = 22.58% UNT 21,298 undergrads, 5702 on campus = 26.77%
