Sunbelt Might Add 11Th School For Football
MeanGreen61 replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
Defending champion FIU will appear on national TV three times in 2011, and the conference is currently renegotiating a deal with ESPN that would further broaden its exposure." Post by CajunT on the Belt board. I know that Louisiana Tech has been in touch with UNT, ASU, UL, and several other programs to measure the water temperature about a possible return. The papers spin Bensons talking points in Texas and other WAC cities, but I've been told the talks have been both ways despite Tech fans denial -

Post from another board. Butler Hoops Team Under Investigation - INDIANAPOLIS - Butler's run in the NCAA Men's Basketball National Championship Game may be tarnished after reports surfaced that all 13 players are being given good educations in an effort to help them find good jobs after they leave the school. 'It's important to remember that right now these are only allegations. Allegations we are looking into' said NCAA president James Isch. If true this would be very disappointing. The NCAA has certain expectations and standards. It is not fair that players at one school be given good educations while athletes at other schools receive basic, remedial instruction worth essentially nothing.' According to documents seized from the school's registrar's office, Butler players have received an education worth $38,616 per year totaling $154,500 over a four year career. Compare that to player at a school like Kentucky where tuition is set at $4,051, with an actual value far below that. 'We don't want to say too much until these reports are confirmed' said Kentucky head basketball coach John Calipari. "But we're talking about $138,000 difference in education per player and that's even if my players stayed four years or graduated which many of them do not. Then these Butler players are stepping into good jobs after graduation while my kids, if they don't make the NBA, have absolutely no job prospects or life skills. It is far from a balanced playing field. They are buying the best players by giving them a high priced education." In addition to the allegations that they were given an expensive education Butler players have been spotted around campus holding books, studying and engaging in interesting conversations. Others have been seen with people who are not tutors. Butler point guard Ronald Nored, a secondary education major, denied allegations that the Bulldog program is cheating. 'The discourse on this matter is fatuous and inane' he said, implicating the program further.

No one likes it, but injuries do happen with a contact sport. You can't baby players in practice and hope to be successful on game day.

Continuing WAC members were recently given painful indication of the changes wrought by conference realignment when ESPN reportedly said it would cut rights fees for the 2011-12 season by more than 75 percent. The WAC, which had been receiving about $4 million a year from ESPN, will get, maybe, $1 million in the wake of Boise State's departure, people in the industry say. UH, as an exiting member, will not share in the 2011-12 WAC disbursements. http://www.staradvertiser.com/sports/sportsnews/20110327_the_future_of_uh_sports_on_tv_is_a_big_unknown.html

Who's the King of the Hill ? Easy, settle it head to head with a Metroplex tournament. I'm sure UTA and UNT would be for it. SMU and TCU need to man up and accept the challenge.

How dare you. You know this board has folks who know much more tha the coaches about what should or should not be done.

Robert Watson - This Kid Is Excited
MeanGreen61 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Thanks for sharing. March 8th article. I was told about Houston about a week later and sent the e-mail. His coach was contacted by UNT a couple of days ago. What, if anything, will happen ? Who knows. -
Nothing may come of it, but Robert Watson of 3A state champs West Oso is really excited abut North Texas. Word is that Watson was offered by Houston, but told that he would need to concentrate on basketball rather than pursue his degree of choice Engineering. Watson ask a friend of mine who is a teacher and former Minnesota Gopher footballer for advice. He wwas told to forget about any school that wouldn't allow him to pursue the education he wanted. Sent an e-mail to Steve B. with the above info & he passed it on to JJ or one of our coaches. Was just told that Watson's coach received a call from a UNT assistant and that tapes on Watson have been sent. Nothing may come of this, but the kid and his father thanked the teacher for his interest and help. Watson is a 6'4 guard and an excellent student who's coach thinks he has what it takes to be a very good college player. Will be interested to see what and if anything happens.

Coach Mac disagrees with you on McCoy. McCoy played at both defensive end and defensive tackle last year, but will be a tackle for good now that McCarney has taken over the program. “He is not a Division I end,” McCarney said. “He will not play a snap at end this year. We watched tape of him last year and he was totally out of position at defensive end.”

The 2012 Schedule And Whatnot
MeanGreen61 replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe you should hop over to their site and post the Mean Green schedule. Even if you post it without comment, you probably won't get a warm reception. -
The current North Texas helmet is rather pathetic considering the team has such an awesome logo. The green is a nice shade, but just “North Texas” in white on the side? Please. Do something here! When Hawaii, Nevada and Fresno join Boise in the mWC, all of the WAC "star power" will be gone. Betcha WAC dollars drop like a rock then. UH, Nevada and Fresno State are expected to get the bulk of the appearances the WAC does receive, but will not share in the money since schools leaving the conference forfeit revenue in their final year of membership. Last year WAC schools received approximately $400,000 each from the ESPN contract, a figure that is expected to be cut by half or more with Boise State's departure Article http://www.staradvertiser.com/sports/sportsnews/20110303_nevada_tv_holding_up_schedule.html

OK, I'm one who will defend the police, but if tickets are actually being issued for 3-4 miles over the limit that this article states, it is ridiculous. http://autos.yahoo.com/articles/autos_content_landing_pages/1728/americas-worst-speed-traps/ Time has really passed me by. Years ago, when I was an officer, we allowed a 9 mile per hour tolerance (except for school zones).
