Isn't it about time for someone to make a trip to the barber shop on Fry Street -
Disagree. Muts can win and we can still take the conference title with a 6-1 record. Muts will lose at least two

CBS Sportsline.com had NT ranked #61 in their final '04 poll. They along with CollegeFootballPoll.com seem to have a higher regard for the Mean Green than the other rankers.

Big 12 moves may hurt Fort Worth Bowl By WENDELL BARNHOUSE Star-Telegram Staff Writer Summer heat and humidity aren't the only reasons Fort Worth Bowl officials are sweating. By the end of this week, the fledgling bowl should know if it will maintain a crucial tie-in with the Big 12 Conference. "We've done all we could do," Fort Worth Bowl executive director Tom Starr said Tuesday. "It appears that we're competing against established bowls that are offering significantly higher payouts. It's just a game that, financially, we can't play at this stage." The Big 12 appears poised to change its bowl lineup starting with the 2006 season. The Big 12 has tentatively agreed to a unique deal with the Gator and Sun bowls. The conference's bowl tie-ins for the 2006 season could be finalized by the end of the week. Two sources said that the Big 12 also is expected to announce a deal with the Insight Bowl, with the opponent to come from the Big Ten Conference. If the Big 12's new bowl deals come through, the league would be looking for a final, seventh tie-in. That would leave current partners Fort Worth, Independence and Houston vying for that one spot. The Fort Worth Bowl last week lost its corporate sponsor, PlainsCapital. Starr said the bowl has been exploring all options regarding its team matchups, including the possibility of leaving one side open to an at-large team. The new arrangement would allow a Big 12 team to twice play in the Gator Bowl over a four-year period; the other two years, the Sun Bowl in El Paso would host a Big 12 team. Big 12 associate commissioner Bob Burda said that the league has had discussions with the Gator and the Sun. "We have a high level of interest in adding the Gator to the Big 12 bowl lineup," Burda said. "It gives us another New Year's Day bowl, the game is played in a top-notch NFL stadium and it's in a state that is a target for recruiting players." The Atlantic Coast Conference would supply the anchor team for the Gator in the new arrangement. In two out of four years, the Big 12 would send a team to the Gator, with the Big East Conference sending a team to the Sun Bowl. Notre Dame is also involved in the contract. The Florida Times-Union reported that Gator Bowl chairman Mike Hartley has verbal agreements from the Big 12 and the Big East regarding the new deal. A potential stumbling block is NBC. The Gator must negotiate its TV contract with NBC, which also televises Notre Dame games. If the network doesn't like the new Gator-Sun-Big 12 arrangement, it could force the Gator to seek a different TV partner. In another bowl move, sources indicate that the Liberty Bowl is close to a deal that would match an ACC team against the Conference USA champion starting in 2006. The ACC would replace the Mountain West Conference champion in the Liberty.

http://www.dnj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?A.../507130313/1006 MTSU loses three football players to grades By ADAM SPARKS sparks@dnj.com Three prominent MTSU football players will sit out the 2005 season for failing to meet NCAA academic requirements. The Blue Raiders' leading tackler in 2004, linebacker Marcel Horne, joins sophomore defensive end Antoine Owens and sophomore running back DeMarco McNair on the sidelines as academically ineligible. "For now, I can say we're planning that those guys will be taking a redshirt year and move to the scout team, where they'll help our offense and defense get better," said MTSU coach Andy McCollum. Horne started 10 games last season after replacing Jonathan Bonner, who suffered a season-ending injury in the 2004 opener at Akron. Horne recorded a team-high 66 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack at weakside linebacker. Owens served in MTSU's rotation at defensive end, starting the final two games of 2004. However, he had already dropped on the depth chart during spring drills. McNair was to be one of three tailbacks vying for carries in the MTSU backfield this season. On the sidelines for much of last year, McNair exploded for a 67-yard touchdown run in a season-ending loss at Troy, marking the longest MTSU run since Dwone Hicks' 79-yard scamper in 2000. The loss of the three players will reshuffle the depth chart a bit, pushing new promising players closer to the limelight. "We're disappointed that they can't help us this year, but that will only give some of our newer guys more of an opportunity to get on the field," McCollum said. "We're real excited about the ones we've got coming back and the new ones we've got coming in." Bonner is slated to return from injury for fall camp, while upstarts Tavares Jones and Anthony Glover will compete for a starting position alongside veteran starter Dennis Burke. Highly touted junior college transfers Chance Dunleavy and J.K. Sabb should also solidify depth at linebacker, while the versatility of Justin Rainey and newcomer Lonnie Clemmons could also prove valuable shifting to linebacker. At running back, starter Eugene Gross and reserve Terry Jackson return, but McNair's ineligibility leaves depth as an issue. Former Riverdale High standout Ralph King or freshman Alex Suber could fill the void. Despite Owens' absence, sophomores Erik Walden and Sean Mosley make up one of the top young defensive end tandems in the Sun Belt. Senior defensive end Devarick Scandrett also returns after starting eight career games, including four last year, and senior Raymond Chaney should also see increased playing time. ——— MTSU FOOTBALL DATES OF NOTE Aug. 7 Team reports Aug. 12 First full-contact practice Aug. 20 Fan Day Aug. 29 First day of class Sept. 3 Season opener at Alabama Tickets for Alabama road game, as well as season and single-game tickets for MTSU's five home games can be purchased by calling 898-2103. NT lost to ULM in 2001 & hasn't had a loss to a non-BCS team with a losing record since. Tech's had losses to several non-BCS teams with losing records since our ULM loss. -

Here's a few ways to ID someone who attends/attended Tech. 1. They take their dog for a walk and both use the same tree. 2. They can entertain themselves for more than an hour with a fly swatter. 3. They think fast food is hitting a deer at 65 mph. 4. They come back from the dump with more than they took. 5. They keep a can of Raid on the kitchen table. 6. Their grandmother has "Ammo" on her Christmas list. 7. They think a subdivision is part of a math problem. 8. They bathe with flea and tick soap. 9. They think a quarter horse is that ride in front of K-Mart. 10. They may have missed 5th grade graduation because of jury duty. -
