  2. Will be interesting to see who wins out. “Bart’s a very good coach,” Benford said. “I’m trying to get Rob Evans. SMU wants him. He is going over there tomorrow and is at TCU now. I am trying to get him to come here with me.”
  3. "Consultation with attorneys regarding confidential legal issues related to UNT s athletic conference membership, and possible action"
  4. Someone "bared all" and got their thread booted.

  6. “If Tony didn’t commit to Missouri, he would have gone to Marquette because of the relationship he built with coach Benford at the time,” said Nick Smith, Mitchell’s coach at Pinkston. “Tony would love to play for him during his first go-around as a head coach.”

  8. Picked this out of a post on the Marquette board. If Benford does bring an ass't or two from Marquette with him, looks like UNT is ready to make a significant $$$ committment to Mean Green basketball. "MU asst coaches are highly paid...they work their butts off ....but it is smart to pay they fairly"
  9. Interesting that an ASS'T COACH can bring other ass'ts from his team with him. Especially a successful Big East team.
  10. The base salary remains the same in the new contract, but the annual value of the contract improves to $750,000 a year. Hudspeth can also earn as much as $105,000 a year in incentive bonuses, based on the team’s performance, both on the field and in the classroom, and for attendance at UL games. http://ragincajuns.com/news/2012/4/24/FB_0424125138.aspx?path=football

  12. The tweet that triggered this thread was totally false. http://web.utsandiego.com/news/2012/apr/23/sdsu-moving-full-steam-big-east/
  13. Cute. Thanks for nothing.
  14. Looked like a decent crowd on the alum side. Any attendance estimates ? Thanks.
  15. "It might just be me, but the way Rick Villarreal was talking about where UNT is going in the next year sounded like a thinly veiled Alliance reference to me" Vito Blog http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/archives/2012/04/end-of-the-night-hoops-notes-t.html

  17. They are in a fairly big market (Bay Area) and did get a visit from both commissioners. If 20 is the number, this is just my guess. 19. Wondering if the pecking order in this article doesn't just apply to the CUSA group. Utah State would probably be the first add to MWC, with strong consideration for San Jose State.
  20. "I did speak today with a non-administration source at one of the prime candidates who is hearing that North Texas, Utah State and Florida International are pretty much done deals in terms of membership, regardless of league affiliation." (Another source from outside either league said members are starting to pressure commissioners Craig Thompson and Britton Banowsky to pick up the pace and get things figured out sooner rather than later. Which would be a huge relief to everyone involved, including yours truly.) http://blog.mysanantonio.com/utsa/2012/04/your-daily-realignment-speculation-2/
  21. First and most likely scenario would be that the Alliance conference decides on expansion of at least 20 teams. UTSA has rocketed up the charts, passing more established programs and would fall in line behind North Texas and Florida International. UTSA sits in third, with Louisiana Tech being the fourth program to receive invites if the number is 20. http://www.insiderunnersports.com/football/articles/another-mwcc-usa-update

  23. My bad.......Tech semi-officlal.
  24. Budget and student body size Louisiana Tech official in interview. Off the Tech board. Please excuse the sloppy notes below. I tried to type an liste to JFord's interview at the same time. per JFord: Meeting went as well as expected. No surprises for MWC or CUSA, no disappointments either. Market or bust for the Alliance? JF: No one is indicating from Tech or media circles around CUSA that the conference expansion is only "media market" driven. FIU gets no coverage in Miami, North Texas gets more media coverage outside DFW than in DFW itself. Shocking that a team like FIU does not have all its football games on radio (i.e. network), they can not find a Miami radio station that will cover all 12 football games. JF: Budget and student body are only reasons UTSA, North Texas, and FIU are being considered. Ford doesn't believe CUSA/MWC is only going after TV markets only. What goes on during these visits? JF: lunch with President, BVDV at beginning; met with Dr. Reneau; tours of the facilities; presentation of Q4E progress and plan for future; talk specifics on TV contracts; Tech talks about how well they did on TV; officials back on the plane. Bradshaw may have been on the plane from Dallas to Ruston, but cannot be confirmed. Officials were out of Ruston by 4 pm. When Tech has been courting CUSA as long as it has, there is not much more for Alliance officials to find out. Ten years after the initial rejection by CUSA, LA Tech is in a much better position (facilities look much better). If worst case scenario occurs (no invite to CUSA) what happens? JF: Sun Belt. Staying in the WAC is not an option. It's either CUSA or Sun Belt. JF: A move to CUSA may not remain in the next two weeks. LA Tech is the last visit the CUSA officials will make. When expansion is going down, you want to be the last school they visit. Any other thing outside of market size that could be bad for Tech? JF: The budget, nowhere near as high as it should be compared to CUSA. Tech has proven that it can do more with less.
