Emmit if you'll look on the wall that honors fallen DPD officers, you'll see the name of Frank Bennett. Frank was not only a fellow officer, but he and his wife, Elise, were close personal friends. A couple of us had the sad task of knocking on her door with the notification. It was over 40 years ago, but something I'll never forget. Sorry for your loss.

#2 reason (excuse) behind 'our team is young'
-
If I see the 'we are a young team' excuse one more time...... There are OTHER 'young team' playing much better football. One that comes to mind is Marshall. Another Navy. Preperation, desire and leadership overcome and trump youth in a team. It's being/been proven by others.

Mean Green Basketball Early Signing Class Gets Good Reviews From Hoop Scoop Courtesy: University of North Texas Release: 11/11/2005 DENTON (11/11/05) -- The North Texas men’s basketball team’s 2005-06 early recruiting class received recognition from HoopScoop.com as one of the best recruiting classes in the country as the website ranked the Mean Green’s class among the top 30 in the nation. Including Arizona State transfer Keith Wooden, the five-player signing class ranks 29th in the nation for the early signing period. That is is the highest any North Texas signing class has been ranked by Hoop Scoop since the 1997-98 class that included 12 players was ranked 21st. Without Wooden, the 2005-06 class still ranks 53rd in the country. North Texas’ 29th ranking with Wooden and 53rd ranking without the 6-9 forward are both the highest among all Sun Belt Conference school’s. In addition to Wooden, the Mean Green’s 2005-06 signing class includes Howe (TX) High Scool’s Collin Mangrum, San Jacinto (TX) College’s Ben Bell and Mineral Area (MO) College’s Curtis Muse and Jonathan Jackson. Wooden ranked 100th nationally by Hoop Scoop when he signed with Arizona State two years ago. Muse is ranked among the top 25 junior college players in the country by the Street & Smith’s Preseason Yearbook. Jackson ranked eighth in blocks among all players in Region 16. Bell was named the NTJCAC Freshman of the Year last season with Weatherford College. Mangrum was an all-state selection last year as a junior. North Texas head coach Johnny Jones earned his stripes as one of the country’s top recruiters while he was an assistant and associate head coach at LSU from 1984 through 1997. While with the Tigers, Jones recruited and coached the likes of NBA superstar and College Player of the Year Shaquille O’Neal, two-time All-American Chris Jackson (now known as Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf) and former national high school player of the year Randy Livingston

North Texas Joins National Spotlight

“I like our draw; I like the fact that the NCAA showed us some respect and gave us the third seed instead of fourth seed like last year,” NT head coach John Hedlund said. Beleive this is a misquote as NT is the #2 seed behind A&M. SMU #3 & NW State #4. -
NT joins national spotlight Michael Neglia Staff Writer November 09, 2005 The NT soccer program has a legitimate chance to make its next big step: winning an NCAA Tournament game. Emily Hughes / NT Daily Jamie Yates (13) and the NT soccer team has earned a spot in the NCAA tournament. The Mean Green (16-3-2) received an automatic bid after winning the Sun Belt Tournament on Saturday and opens its NCAA Tournament run Friday in College Station against SMU, a team they have already beaten this season. NT defeated the Mustangs 3-1 on Sept. 4 in Dallas. “I like our draw; I like the fact that the NCAA showed us some respect and gave us the third seed instead of fourth seed like last year,” NT head coach John Hedlund said. “When you get a fourth seed you have to play the number one seed at their place which is a huge challenge, so playing against SMU at a neutral site, I like our chances.” In the Mean Green’s earlier win this season over the Lady Mustangs, sophomore forward Heather Hutyra recorded a hat trick. “I like our matchup. I think that they might put a few more players back than they did last time,” said Hutyra, who was named the Most Outstanding Player of the conference tournament. “I think it’s a really good matchup, we know their team and they know how we play, so I think it’s going to be a great game.” This is the Mean Green’s second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Last year, NT lost in the first round to Texas 3-0 in Austin, but think this year might be different. “Last year we got put up against Texas, and we were a little intimidated going in,” Hutyra said. “But with our win over SMU earlier in the year, it gives us a little bit of confidence going into the first game.” A victory would break the single-season record for wins set by last year’s team at 16 and would be a big step for the future. “It would be huge. To get to this point obviously back-to-back in the tournament is an achievement in itself,” Hedlund said. “To me, if we can win, we’d be the first Sun Belt Conference team to win an NCAA Tournament game, so we would love to do that, but we know it’s going to be a tough game.” SMU leads the all-time series against NT, with a 5-3-1 record. This will add to the rivalry and could be one of the closest games of NT’s season. “We know them, and they know us,” Hedlund said. “Both teams are going to get opportunities in front of the goal. It’ll come down to whoever finishes.”

http://www.collegefootballnews.com/sun_belt/Sun%20Belt.htm North Texas … Patrick Cobbs was phenomenal against UL Lafayette and almost carried the team by himself to a win, but the North Texas run defense completely shut down failing to do anything against the Ragin' Cajun pair of Jerry Babb and Tyrell Fenroy. Daniel Meager threw the ball as well as he had all year with a bit of accuracy and with some good zip, but he didn't make enough plays to keep drives going. Cobbs has to keep tearing off 100+ yard days for the team to have any chance the rest of the way. …
