November 10 Navy at NT

When looking at attendance you need to look at more than one year. Example: MTSU looks good for '06 but has decent attendance for only 1 other year since being in the Sun Belt. As pointed out ULM's attendance is misleading because of the so-called home game vs Arkansas in LR. ASU counted attendance at a "home game" in Kansas City vs Missouri, maybe on '05. Troy has really been the only conference team that consistantly is around the 20,000 mark.

Was it '05 or '06 that TD helped Missouri install their offense ?

North Texas Begins: March 13 Game: April 22 The early spring buzz ... All eyes are on Todd Dodge and if he can get the job done. A star from the Texas high school ranks, Dodge and his spread offense will try to kick-start one of the nation's worst attacks. His old job at Southlake Carroll High had better facilities and was bigger in-state than UNT, but the athletic department is making a bigger commitment to football. Wins right off the bat would help. The big spring question is ... Can either of the main quarterback options actually run the spread? Daniel Meager and Woody Wilson struggled mightily with the old offense, and there aren't many wide receiver options for the spread, so it might take a while for all the pieces to fit into place. Both quarterbacks can run, so look for more responsibility heaped on these two right off the bat. The most important position to watch is ... Besides quarterback, running back. Jamario Thomas is back for another year after leading the nation in rushing a few seasons ago. He was phased out over last year in favor of Evan Roberston, but Robertson has to get academically eligible first. He's at North Central Texas College and will miss spring ball, but he should be back by the fall. That means Thomas should have the upper hand early on with all the spring practice reps unless JUCO transfer Cameron Montgomery turns into a star right away. Spring attitude... It wasn't all that long ago that North Texas was the powerhouse of the Sun Belt. Two lousy seasons have forced a regime change, and Dodge should be just the coach to get the program back on track. It'll take a little bit of patience early on, but it's not like the offense can be any worse. At least there'll be some semblance of a passing game. While all the glory of gridiron Saturdays is over until September, the enduring work of winter conditioning has just begun. It's the winter training program that shapes the football athlete into what Coach Rick Stockstill and his staff wants from their players when the 12 week season begins on Sept. 1. ANALYZING THE NEW HEAD COACHES http://cfn.scout.com/2/619252.html North Texas Head Coach: Todd Dodge Former Coach: Darrell Dickey Last Seen: Coaching Southlake Carroll (Tex.) High School The Skinny: In an effort to revive a program that’s slipped badly the last few years, the Mean Green took a rare dip into the high school ranks, landing a legendary coach. Dodge, a former Longhorn quarterback and North Texas offensive coordinator, won a mind-boggling 79 of his last 80 games and four state championships since 2002 behind a four-receiver, no-huddle offense that was virtually unstoppable. Can it work in the Sun Belt against college athletes? Time will tell, but one undeniable fact is that Dodge is a rock star in these parts, which means recruits are going to pay attention and boosters are going to pay whatever is necessary to improve the program’s facilities. Putting Out the Welcome Mat: QB Giovanni Vizza. If there’s one thing that Dodge really knows is how to raise a quarterback. Vizza is his first quarterback recruit, de-committing from Nevada to play “Dodge Ball” for the Mean Green.

The new version of the Mean Green will prepare for and go into EVERY GAME with the idea of bringing home a WIN.

Then again, finding 20 players who had a hand in 47 playoff wins last season is remarkable. To do that in three weeks is astounding. More than half of the class at least appeared in a state final during their careers, and they combined for 14 state titles. This group didn't embrace moral victories, only real ones. "These players are unselfish, they have character, and they have been in situations that we want to be in," Dodge said. "When they get here, they will be more seasoned than you might expect." Easy to overlook in the article, but wonder who Dodge was addressing in the Washington area and the topic ? No one can deny that we've got a coach who DOES get around and one that DOES know people. He's certainly got a HUGE, well populated bunker !

President greets Dodge By TROY PHILLIPS Star-Telegram Staff Writer DENTON - How's this for Todd Dodge's first bit of history made at North Texas: First football coach to meet a sitting head of state. On Friday, Dodge, his wife, Elizabeth, son Riley and daughter Molly were guests of President George W. Bush in the Oval Office on roughly 48 hours notice. Scheduled to speak in the Washington area, Dodge and his family had just hoped to tour the White House, but instead they spent 20 minutes with the president, who in December watched on television as Dodge coached Carroll to a fourth state title in five years. Connections helped set up the meeting. Lindsay Lineweaver, an aide to first lady Laura Bush, is the sister of Carroll defensive line coach Aaron Lineweaver. Their father, Steve Lineweaver, is the Trinity High School coach. "The trip had been planned for quite some time," Dodge said. "I later decided to take my whole family with me for an educational trip. From that perspective, it was a slam dunk." Dodge said a tour of the White House turned into a meet-and-greet with the president in the Oval Office. The whole time, Dodge figured something would come up in the president's schedule to scuttle the appointment. "I was just happy we had the chance to do it," Dodge said. "I figured something would come up, and it wouldn't happen. I was just glad we were there at all." They walked in, Dodge said, and the first thing President Bush said was, "Hey, Riley, I've never seen anyone throw up and then throw a touchdown pass," referring to cameras catching Riley Dodge getting sick during the Class 5A state title game against Austin Westlake. During the visit, Bush showed them the famous trapdoor in his desk, the one John F. Kennedy Jr. was photographed playing inside while his father worked. The Dodges posed for pictures with the president, took home several autographs and still can't quite believe where they were. They even went outside and petted the president's dog. "I had to go to Baltimore after that, and my family had planned to look around [Washington] some more," Todd Dodge said. "When they left there, they said, 'We won't see anything better than this.'" Fwiw - 2007 Sun Belt Recruiting, What It Means ?
MeanGreen61 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
One thing for sure. Dodge will have the team going into EVERY GAME looking for a WIN! Just 'trying to keep it close' is no longer a part of the UNT game plan. -
7. North Texas The class is heavy on ... Receivers. If new head coach Todd Dodge is going to run his no-huddle spread passing game, he needs receivers. He got them with this class full of seven wideouts and tight end Jordan Scoggins who'll all be asked to contribute right away. Running back wasn't a priority, but there's no way the team could pass up JUCO transfer Cameron Montgomery, who ripped off 23 touchdowns in his senior year of high school. The player who'll someday be a really big deal ... LB A.J. Penson The player you might care about this year ... RB Cameron Montgomery What it all means to the real world of college football ... It's asking the world for a bunch of true freshmen to come in and take one of the nation's worst passing games and making it shine. It's going to take a while for everything to kick in, so expect a lot of growing pains this year until everyone figures out what they're doing. A lot. Fortunately, the running backs are so good the offense will havew some positives to rely on. SUN BELT RECRUITING http://cfn.scout.com/2/618779.html

It will probably happen ? Will it be good ? Who knows ? Then they'll probably be scouting Pee Wee games.

Questions: Do some people have too much free time ?

There's absolutely no comparison between Staubach & Craig James. Plus the game will be played on Veteran's Day weekend. Staubach is an Annapolis grad, Navy vet & well respected sports figure residing in the Metroplex. Fitting that he would be at the game and be recognized.

From posts on the Middie board. "Navy travels pretty well. We have a lot of alumni in & around DFW, too. It'll be a great crowd." "Like someone else said, you don't have to deal with the Tech Trash or pretentious SMU snobs." MIddie board schedule thread. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=240#S=240&a...98806&FIX=1

Navy has always been my 'other team' -
Great timing for our game with Navy with the game being scheduled on the weekend of Veteran's Day (Sunday -November 11th). Hopefully we can make the game and game day a real event !

INSTANT CONTRIBUTORS: It's a tough label to put on an incoming freshman, but there are Mean Green fans out there who likely want to see Giovanni Vizza start immediately this fall. He played in a Dodge-like system last season, and all he did was lead his team to the state championship. He's most likely the jewel of this class. ... Solid size and two years playing junior college football should have Cam Montgomery ready to contribute right away. UNT RECRUITING RECAP http://www.texasfootball.com/index.php?s=&...article_id=1142

Middies discuss schedule & NT. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=240#S=240&a...434&T=98806 "Considering UCONN punking out on us, I think this is an EXCELLENT move. Baller, take a look at our roster, count the players for Texas and tell me why we SHOULDN'T play N. Texas. If we are smart, we should schedule a home and home, we get all the benefits of playing a D I Texas school, without the the obnoxious fan base of Texas Tech..a win win...
