  1. Early trouble, sunken idea, House update By Mitch Vingle Sports Editor While on the subject of dismissals, you can forget the proposal to forge an Army/Navy football membership with the Big East. (Many WVU fans, I understand, will be happy to read the news.) A source with intimate knowledge, one that asked for anonymity, said Big East officials had extensive conversations with the two service academies concerning the possibility. The idea was to have both play four Big East games a year. WVU officials, among others, thought it a grand idea. The setup would help league schools toward their annual goal of seven home games. It would likewise help the service academies in regard to scheduling Eastern schools and allow them to globetrot the other eight openings. Navy nibbled at the idea, but Army did not. The source said he expects Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese to fill in league athletic directors in the upcoming week. Oh yes, and Navy alone will not be the ninth football member. So Big East fans, get used to an eight-football, 16-basketball setup. At least for the foreseeable future, that’s what you’re looking at. 2. Post on the Froggie board by FittyFiveFrog. Looks like the Bears will lose 7 of their 2007 football recruits (they signed 29). The rumor on the Bears board is that the 2 very highly rated OLs - Anthony Morgan, and Courtney Green, are gone! An get this - Also JOHN JONES the only remaining Offensive Lineman out of the 4 very highly recruited OLs they bragged about ad nauseum for the past 6 months! THEY LOST EM ALL !!!! Oh geeeezzz! The rumor is 1 linebacker, 1 Offensive Lineman (Jones apparently), 2 defensive backs and a wide receiver! And they are also saying that when the names are known, it will be a stunner. This puts the Baylor 2007 recruiting class officially in the toilet. With all of these losses, the Baylor recruiting class ranks just below SMU and UNT now. Especially if the linebacker they will lose is the one I think it is! Ouch! These 7 are of course in addition to their four previous devastating losses in the 2007 recruiting class that caused such an uproar amongst their fans. Those 4 losses were: OT LONNIE EDWARDS (4 star) QB GJ KINNE (3 star) WR JUSTIN JOHNSON (3 star) WR BILLY CHAVIS (3 star) THREAD FROM THE BEAR BOARD. http://www.baylorfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127597

Other dates are referred to as "dead" periods, where coaches can't personally have contact with a player but may write or call him and his parents. 12. ESPN Analyst Bill Curry to Speak at Sun Belt Conference Football Media Days Courtesy: Sun Belt Conference Release: 07/09/2007 NEW ORLEANS - ESPN college football analyst and former Georgia Tech, Alabama and Kentucky head coach Bill Curry will be the guest speaker at this year’s Sun Belt Conference football media days. The two day event begins the afternoon of Monday, July 23 and concludes at noon on Tuesday, July 24. Curry is slated to speak on Tuesday morning. Curry joined ESPN in 1997 as a college football game analyst. His primary assignment is the ESPN2 College Football Saturday Night telecast (with Dave Barnett and analyst David Norrie), along with selected bowl games. In 2006, Curry accepted a position at Baylor School as head of their leadership program. Prior to ESPN, Curry spent 17 years (1980-96) as a head coach in the college ranks, accumulating a 79-98-4 record at Georgia Tech (1980-86), Alabama (1987-89) and Kentucky (1990-96). He led Alabama to the 1989 SEC title (shared with Auburn and Tennessee) and was the recipient of numerous honors, including ACC Coach of the Year (1985), SEC Coach of the Year (1987 & ’89), and the Bobby Dodd National Coach of the Year (1989). Prior to his first head coaching assignment, Curry spent three seasons in the NFL (1977-79) as an assistant coach to Bart Starr with the Green Bay Packers. Curry played professionally from 1965 to 1974 with the Packers (under legendary head coach Vince Lombardi), Houston Oilers, Baltimore Colts and Los Angeles Rams. He earned All-Pro honors at center with the Colts in 1971 and 1972. A 1965 Georgia Tech graduate with a degree in industrial management, Curry also starred for the Yellow Jackets football squad from 1963-64. The 2007 SBC Football Media Days will take place July 23-24 at the Hilton St. Charles in downtown New Orleans. The head coach and a top player from each of the conference’s eight football playing schools will be in attendance. The pre-season all-Sun Belt team and coaches preseason poll will be announced at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 23, and the opening day concludes with an evening reception for all participants at New Orleans’ famous Rock ‘n Bowl. Commissioner Wright Waters will open the proceedings on Tuesday, July 24 with a 9:00 a.m. press conference followed by New Orleans Bowl President Paul Valteau. Each head coach and player will be available to all media from 10:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. All events and announcements will be covered extensively on sunbeltsports.org. The Sun Belt Conference website will also feature video interviews. Media seeking credentials should contact Sun Belt Associate Commissioner Todd Stewart (504-299-9066).

  17. From a Monroe News Star article 3. Louisiana Tech received a revenue sharing check from the WAC for more than $1 million. Does that kind of money make it worth playing in conference that is a bad geographic fit for the Bulldogs? Looks good on paper, but no rivalries and ludicrous travel demands make this league the ultimate sell-out for Tech. -- Letlow Not when you consider the money the Tech teams spend on travel. -- Boatright Ideally Tech would play in the WAC just for football and find a more regional conference for other sports. -- Kern Never. Right now, Tech's only natural rival is a team it doesn't play. -- Stickney The travel expenses alone eats up most of that check. For that reason I say no. It's not worth it. Money is not the issue here though. If it was, you would schedule ULM and ULL on a home and home bases every year. Renew the interest for the FANS. You'll make the same money and have only a fraction of the travel expense. -- Soignier It helps out some, but how can you really justify the volleyball team traveling to Idaho? -- Reynolds FULL ARTICLE http://www.thenewsstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...010/1006/SPORTS
  18. Here's a dose of facts ! North Texas is a huge question mark for the prognosticators. Yes TD has DD's players but how they adopt and adapt to the system may be a shocking surprise. Don't sell these kids or coaches short. There is a renewed enthusiasm after being coached to 2 and 3 win seasons. I doubt if we'll have as few wins as the so called experts predict.

  21. We don't need to ask him, you need to provide a link to a post of his that states UNT and ULL were offered to make a 10 team WAC. Don't recall ever seeing one.
  22. Yep, they're both Louisiana (Laf. & Mon.)......... Don't get um started
  23. Riley Dodge is ranked as #38 (Athlete) by Rivals. FWIW he's the highest ranked non-BCS recruit in that classification. RIVAls RANKINGS - ATHLETE http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?r...4&Year=2008
  24. Their childish name-game fight gets tiresome doesn't it ? Maybe we can make it to CUSA some day and get away from that little bush league battle with their constant bickering.
