6) North Texas (2-3, 1-1 in Sun Belt) The mob said: North Texas by 7 So said I: North Texas 30, Florida Atlantic 20 What actually happened: North Texas slowly forged a 17-0 lead, then held on for a 20-14 win at Florida Atlantic to end a two-game losing streak and pick up its first Sun Belt victory. North Texas's passing game bailed out what is usually a very dependable running game. Running backs Antoinne Jimmerson and Brandin Byrd both entered the game at or above the 300-yard mark on the season, but the duo combined for just 46 yards on 33 carries. That was the norm for the game, however. While UNT averaged 5.1 yards per play, FAU only gained 4.2. And while FAU turned it over three times, North Texas's only giveaway proved costly; FAU scored the very next play after intercepting Derek Thompson, cutting the North Texas lead to 17-14. The UNT defense, though, kept things in check, limiting FAU to just 12 yards on its final two possessions. Star of the game: Though Derek Thompson had a nice day passing, Brelan Chancellor deserves the game ball. His 135 yards on six receptions accounted for more than half of Thompson's 251 yards, and it marked Chancellor's third game with at least 100 yard games; he has also scored at least one TD in four of five games. Key number: 2, the number of wins for UNT in its first five games for the first time since 2005. The Miners had started 1-4 or worse in every season from 2006 through 2011. What's next: North Texas goes back on the road, concluding its non-conference schedule with a game at Houston. Before the season the Mean Green would've been labeled big underdogs; but with UH just now earning its first win of the season this past weekend, Houston is only a 12-point favorite. http://www.texasfootball.com/college-news/view/180099

Do we need Power to have a Running game?

It would also help to not be sooooooooooooo predictable. -
Coach Mac Presser - calling out Cam Feldt

That would leave some on the board with less to post about. -
By the TexasFootball.com Staff It was judgment week for a lot of teams. Important conference games abound, and critical non-conference games filled the schedule. In all, FBS teams from Texas combined to go 7-5 -- with two of the losses coming against one another. So, what does it all mean for our Power Poll, ranking the 12 FBS teams in Texas? Let's take a look. NBC Sports College Basketball Talk 23. North Texas at Saint Louis (December 5) Tony Benford certainly isn’t ducking challengers in his first season in Denton, as the Mean Green begin their season at Creighton. Does Saint Louis, who is expected to contend in the Atlantic 10, have enough inside to contain All-America candidate Tony Mitchell? Can the Mean Green keep SLU’s guards, led by Kwamain Mitchell, under wraps? http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/10/01/top-25-countdown-others-receiving-votes/#/2012/10/01/twenty-five-non-conference-games-to-keep-an-eye-on-this-season/

Dave Campbell Texas Football On The Rice/Houston Game
MeanGreen61 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
More Houston Thoughts 1. Houston has scored only 13 & 6 points in two of their first 4 games. 2. They have given up 30 or more points in 3 of 4 games (30 Texas State, 56 La Tech, 37 UCLA) -
Houston 35, Rice 14 Aided in part by Rice (1-4, 0-2 in CUSA) missing starting QB Taylor McHargue, Houston's defense had its best outing of the year, holding Rice to 338 total yards in Houston's (1-3, 1-1) first win. The Cougar offense overcame three turnovers to roll up 604 yards of offense, including a season-high 158 yards and 3 TDs from RB Charles Sims. Houston rushed for 243 yards after coming into the day averaging just more than 110 per game. QB Driphus Jackson, making his first start for Rice, threw for 272 yards and 2 TDs but completed less than half his passes. AND North Texas 20, Florida Atlantic 20 Derek Thompson bailed out a North Texas (2-3, 1-1 in Sun Belt) offense that got nothing from its usually dependable running game. The Mean Green only rushed for 56 yards on 29 carries, but Thompson (251 yards, 2 TDs, INT passing) helped UNT build a 17-0 lead on a 14-yard TD pass midway through the third quarter. The defense, after giving up back-to-back TDs to see the lead cut to 17-14, stopped FAU (1-4, 0-2) on its final two possessions to preserve the win. Linebackers Zachary Orr (10 tackles, 1 TFL) and Derek Akunne (9 tackles, INT) had big games for UNT for the second straight week http://www.texasfootball.com/college-news/view/180094

Don't really see a reason to schedule any Sun Belt teams in any sport in the near future. What Belt team would really be attractive to Mean Green fans as an OC game ? Need to just move on and make a clean break from the conference.
