Wac Schools Face Loss Of 1a/ Fbs Status
MeanGreen61 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Off the WAC board. Appears that Utah State & Idaho are farther down the slippery slope than New Mexico State. Avg attendance 2006, 2007 NMSU - 17,596 and 14,412 USU - 11,360 and 13,131 UI - 14,543 and 11,479 -
If attendance falters, NMSU's 1A status will be put on hold, WAC status called into question (7:30 p.m.) By Teddy Feinberg/Sun-News Sports Editor Article Launched: 06/07/2008 07:36:17 PM MDT LAS CRUCES — Western Athletic Conference Commissioner Karl Benson said that if New Mexico State University fails to live up to the football attendance standards set by the NCAA, they will be dropped from Division 1A competition and possibly the WAC. If things get to that point, Benson said that NMSU would be re-instituted back into 1A play when the school proved it could live up to NCAA standards and maintain its attendance average above 15,000 per season. "They would be out of 1A, that is correct," Benson said. "It would not affect any of the other sports at New Mexico State. They would remain at the 1A level." The program's status in WAC would be up in the air. "Their standing in the conference would be subject to review," Benson said. Other WAC schools who face similar scenarios as New Mexico State are Utah State and Idaho. All three programs entered the conference three years ago. FWIW saw a post on another board recently stating that the stadium wouldn't be a problem with OU or Oklahoma State as long as the get their 5,000 ticket allotments.

Bulls Add Western Kentucky To Football Schedule By BRETT McMURPHY | The Tampa Tribune Published: June 6, 2008 TAMPA - The University of South Florida has added a home-and-home football series with Western Kentucky to its schedule. The Bulls will play at WKU on Sept. 12, 2009 and host WKU on Sept. 25, 2010. Western Kentucky is making the move from Division I-AA to Division I-A in 2009 and will join the Sun Belt Conference. "Western Kentucky adds another NCAA FBS team to our upcoming schedules and really brings into focus our plans for the 2009 and 2010 seasons," USF athletic director Doug Woolard said in a statement. "The best part of the two-game deal is that we add a seventh home game in 2010. The entertainment value for our fans increases with one more home date. For our team, it provides the competitive advantage of playing one more date in front of our home fans. And from a revenue standpoint, it provides a significant stimulus with seven home dates against five travel dates." TAMPA TRIBUNE http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008/jun/06/bu...tball-schedule/

Off the Muts board. Posted by SpaceRaider A different take on UNT. A key match up to watch will be the FAU defense against the North Texas offense on Nov. 8. There is more talent than ever before in the Sun Belt in 2008, which should lead to an exciting season. Top 10 Senior NFL Draft Prospects 1. Casey Fitzgerald, WR, North Texas A talented technician with good speed and ability. Fitzgerald has playmaking skills in the open field and can also go up for the jump ball. Comments from CUSA board post. This could be the beginning of the end for the 16 team Big East Conf as we know it today. I'm sure the Football Big East Member Presidents and AD's might be drooling over the thought of starting a real full-membership conference. Tranghese was the biggest "thorn" in the side of the Big East Football Members...as his #1 goal was to always protect the Catholic non-football Big East members first. ARTICLE http://www.bigeast.org/ViewArticle.dbml?SP...&SPID=11209 BOSTON GLOBE ARTICLE http://www.boston.com/sports/colleges/arti...tirement_today/ It will not be an easy job since the Big East is essentially two different leagues in basketball with different schools and different agendas, which, at times, have clashed. Tranghese said that he didn't think there would be an immediate move to break the league into two conferences, with the football schools breaking off from the predominantly Catholic basketball schools.
