  1. I personally like traditional school colors. I like that Alabama, Texas, OU and Ohio state all have set uniforms that haven't changed in years if not decades. But 17-18-year-olds like the variety of Oregon, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor and others. I've noticed many of the schools send tweets of their planned uniforms before the games and you should check out the number of hearts and retweets those generate. More and more schools are adopting the variable uniform look because their recruits WANT that. It's been posted multiple times "How many uniform variations do you have?" is one of the most common question by recruits. This actually isn't new. Back in the late 70s/early 80s SMU had the triple stripe on the legs of their uniforms. Coaches at other SWC schools commented on how silly and stupid it looks while PLAYERS from those schools all commented on how much they liked it. I think NT is uniquely suited to have a multiple uniform set. Since Hayden Fry arrived it seems every new AD (and several of the football coaches) have come in and changed the shade of green we use. When I look at the Mean Green shirts in my closet, it looks like one of those paint swatches from Sherwin-Williams. Why not make a virtue out of our vice and just embrace multiple looks? Our stands are going to be filled with lots of variations no matter what the "official" colors are. Let's go with what the recruits and students want.
  2. Just for those who might not be sure, the Southland was a 1A conference in 78.
  3. I'd say we WILL be fighting either for a better bowl or any bowl. I keep thinking Rice is going to improve because the play us very tough. But I easily see UTEP winning at least 2 of the next 4.
  4. Normally in a conference with division you play your crossover teams two years in a row, home and home. That has happened this year and last with us in CUSA. However, UAB is bringing back football next year which will change the rotation. I think we'll lose one crossover game so instead of 3 we'll have 2. I think it is highly unlikely our 2 will be Marshall, MTSU or WK as we've played them two years in a row but since there is a scheduling reset it's possible. With the scheduling reset, I personally hope we can adjust so we divide up the CUSA Texas teams so we don't have an ALL home or ALL away schedule. Personally, I'd like to have a mix of Texas home and away games every year.
  5. Going to the Championship Game gets us an extra week of practice beyond anything we get from a bowl.
  6. Actually, the line is the number of points needed to get an equal number of bets on each side. The Volkswagen in Vegas don't care about the actual outcome as long as their is roughtly the same amount bet on both sides. Based on our last decade of performance, I'm sure there is a lot of bias against better on us without a lot of points.
  7. Amen! It was shown years ago the ranking services adjust their rankings based on the school's a kid has offers from. Not totally, but some adjustments as their sales in recruiting info go down if traditional football powers are listed as having poor classes.
  8. Mister Connected. Do you have a Mosaic browser as well? Opera?
  9. He better not. If Houston tanks so does the value of his next contract. Neither LSU nor Texas want a guy who's team tanks.
  10. Not often I cheer SMU, but good for them. Not sure if that score will hold but go Ponies!
  11. Since 1AA/FCS was created, we have lost a total of TWICE to an 1AA/FCS team. We lost to Alabama-Birmingham the year we transitioned back to 1A and didn't yet have the full compliment of scholarships. And last year when the team quit on the coach. As long as we avoid NDSU and a couple of others, we have no reason to be worried about FCS teams. A majority of FBS teams play FCS teams. Bill Snyder said it was the best way to get your team used to winning. Boise used FCS teams to create the winning record they needed to build their reputation. The AAC is a G5 conference to which we aspire. All 12 teams play FCS schools this year, mostly in their first or second games. When we lose out on a chance at an access bowl because one of our wins was an FCS team, then we can talk.
  12. This thread shows the complications with scheduling and clearly points out no schedule is going to please everyone. I'd love to have a home and home against 'Cuse. I'd love one against Central Michigan as well. Having one FCS game on the schedule, preferably the first game each year, is also a great way for the team to get an likely win. That's why almost every other FBS team schedules a single game against an FCS team almost every year. It is proven to help teams get going with confidence - just ask almost ANY FBS coach. We don't have to do it every year and we don't need to schedule these games a decade out, but if the first goal each year is to be bowl eligible then having an FCS team on the schedule unquestionably helps. By the way, there is nothing that prevents us from having seven home games if we can make the schedule work! That is how the big boys do it.
  13. If you look back at the poll on the chances of us winning that game, you'll see a LOT of us picked Marshall to at least likely win!
  14. In today's DMN, I read some study that reported a 15% increase in the chances of a Big 12 team being in the Playoffs each year. But that didn't coincide with what I heard from various Baylor insiders. They reported right now the Big 12 has a 60% of having one of the four teams and adding BYU plus either Cincy or Houston only go them to a 70% chance mainly because none of the schools has a stronger team than the average of the current Big 12 members. They wouldn't raise the average strength enough to get to 75%. That's why my connections really didn't think there would be expansion after the initial study was done. Full disclosure - I got an MBA from Baylor and while I've never given their athletics any donations I get a lot of mailings and I'm active with both the Dallas and Fort Worth Baylor Business Networks. What does this do to UT-Houston? The push for that was the only reason I thought it might go through was get UH's blessing for a UT Houston.
  15. The key to getting to the Bahamas is planning early. There are lots of sales as there is a fair amount of competition.
  16. It you follow the link, the article mentions Harvard is 979 so we are ahead of them. Anyone found a simple explaination of APR because I've forget exactly what it is.
  17. So that whole "help the non-bowl teams" not only doesn't happen, the system is designed so the non-bowl teams can't take advantage of the bowl coaches being too busy to recruit. One of the things we share with SMU is going to a bowl with a losing record. While everyone laughs, going to the bowl is still better for a program than not.
  18. I had the impression it was a purely practice facility designed for multifunction use. As I understand it, they don't take away space that could be used everyday for practice for stands, even folding stands.
  19. Prays for Tyler and his family.
  20. First, everyone should have a passport as you never know when the opportunity for travel will occur. If for no other reason than to have a second "government issued photo ID" - a passport is as basic as a drivers license. Second, folks Nassau is fun. Frankly, it reminds me of New Orleans. It's also relatively cheap to get there as there are lots of airlines competing for your business.
  21. You forgot to ask why isn't "D" a choice.
  22. Reading Timothy McMillan's comment, I think what a difference a year makes!
  23. Thing is the websites they write for all start predicting bowl match ups after week one. Not sure how many of the writers actually think these "predictions " are valid.
  24. I recommend any RTF student to read this as this was the event that changed a LOT of things in how reporters interact with police. It was MUCH cozier in those days and that caused problems no one could have foreseen. The book is written by people who were actually there. A guy who I knew in the 90s for repairing equipment for Barney & Friends was running one of the camera's in the basement at police headquarters for KRLD-TV (channel 4). He wasn't on THE camera that got the close up, but he got a lot of the action after Ruby fired. All of them had to testify before the Warren Commission. Bill Mercer is a really special guy with a LOT of skins on the wall. Now back to normal football talk....
  25. Actually you can count one FCS win every other year. That said I think we need to be 7-5 to be invited to a bowl.
