  1. Once conference play starts, how much input do we have as the when our bye weeks occur? I honestly don't know. I do know we never want a week one bye again!
  2. Yes, it's like visiting an alternative universe.
  3. Yes, that is what actually happens according to a friend in their faculty.
  4. I don't need to visit as I still remember. I don't want to go back there anytime soon. I wish we were 8-0, but I don't think it's terrible that we're not. First, we have a very reasonable shot at a true 10 win regular season - something we've never done before. Secondly, our win at Arkansas combined with the punt saw 'round the world, is getting us more notice than being undefeated would. We don't have to go back to 1975 to point to a signature win again. I don't care if the pigs are having a down year as NEXT year we'll still be talking about humiliating them in Fayetteville and only the people at Arkansas will know it was in a down year. As long as we aren't waiting decades for our next signature win, we'll be in great shape. It's still green and good, just not green and perfect!
  5. Merge this into the mega thread, please someone!
  6. The Higher Ed Board formally approved medical schools for UNT and UH. Who is John Steen, Jr., and why. Would he be the lone "no" vote for UNT but yes for UH? https://www.texastribune.org/2018/10/25/uh-and-unt-hsc-given-go-ahead-open-medical-schools/
  7. I didn't get to NT till Fall of 76, so I never knew Coach Rust. I heard that he was a good Xs and Ox coach, but "couldn't recruit" and that's why the team eventually went down hill. I don't think it was that simple. First of all, recruiting changed dramatically during his time. NT has a decided advantage in that it would actively recruit African-American athletes from the late 50s onward. Fry broke the color barrier in the SWC in the early/mid 60 (I forget the exact year) but even then only the most exceptional athletes could were accepted in the SWC. But as time went on, more and more athletes were getting opportunities on the big SWC stage and had less reason to come to NT. I didn't know about the budget cuts and JUCO rule changes GrandGreen mentioned but I'm certain those had a negative effect as well. President Matthews had left behind a lot of staff and faculty that wanted to "win" in sports, but not so much that athletics would be bigger than academics.
  8. When I read about the injuries on the Rice team, my thought was "Their season is over. Glad our's isn't." Just win, don't worry about revenge - no one on either coaching staff was there ten years ago! All of the current players were in elementry school! I like NMGreen's idea, build a big lead in the first half and rest guys in the second half. We have some injuries that need to heal.
  9. Yes, it can be done. It just doesn't happen very often. The more likely outcome is bad. I'd rather stick to finding the up and coming P5 coordinator looking with lower division HC experience.
  10. First of all, we shouldn't have been in a position where a bad call costs us the game. We had more than enough opportunities but didn't capitalize on them. That applies to players on offense, defense and ST plus the coaches. However, yes, clearly the officiating was poor at this and many CUSA games. Before we joined the conference, I remember reading many, MANY complaints from East Carolina, Houston and UCF about the poor quality of officials. At least one Pirate fan complained often that Sun Belt officials were better than CUSA ones. Obviously, this has been an ongoing problem for a long time and through multiple conference Commissioners and multiple sets of conference members. I've no idea why there doesn't appear to be any effort at an upgrade.
  11. That's worth a Ray. I don't use those often!
  12. After a few days, the sting of the loss is less and we're 6-2. Far from ideal but there are goals still to accomplish. One of the things I like best about football is you can't get too upset by a play as another on is coming and you have to be ready to perform. Likewise if you spend too much time dwelling on a game that's over you won't do well in the next game. It's time to move on and reset. And that's why I'm glad to the the emoji with a small smile on Monday.
  13. I don't think NT has ever won 10 regular season games at the Major college/D1/D1A/FBS level without the benefit of a forfeit. I could be wrong about that, but I don't think so.
  14. I think lots of factors come into play. The Arkansas win is combined with the punt return to get NT more over $900 million in publicity according to at least one source. FAU won the conference and didn't get anything near to that. And I honestly believe if we have that play but lose, WE don't get nearly the publicity. The publicly for whatever bowl we are in will include clips of that play - "come see or watch on TV the team that did this!" Bowls, especially those owned by ESPN, know this! Undefeated would be clearly better. One loss would be clearly better. But we certainly aren't in a bad position.
  15. I know the MWC conference traded cash and exposure to avoid midweek games, but I was sure exactly how that worked out. From. Their own website, the MWS has four games on tv on Saturday. They have one game on CBS sports network, one on ESPNU, one on Spectrum Hawaii Sports and one on ATT sports network. I'll leave it to others to decide if that's really better or not. The AAC coverage is much better for national exposure. As to getting BeIn, we bought a new 4K tv at Best Buy in July and it came with a 30 day Sling subscription. We didn't start it till NT's first BeIn game.
  16. I can't imagine a raise without an increased buy out. The increased buy out actually HELPS Seth as it weeds out schools with less resources. If another school wants him, they need to REALY want him! That's better for him as well.
  17. The CFP ranks almost every team if not actually every FBS team. CUSA wouldn't have included it in the tie breakers if the teams weren't likely to be ranked.
  18. Neither FAU nor Miss State are easy road games. Not impossible, but certainly not easy!
  19. There is no doubt significant G5 bias exists and that it is stronger in the reporters than in the coaches. But I'll bet those were two different people making the comments about needed to schedule better teams and then Pitt being proven. Peter Burns on the SEC network must not realize that most schools schedule non-conference games four to six year out or more.
  20. Yes! All families with kids aren't involved in the same activities. Little kids soccer is mostly done before 11:30am unless they are dealing with rain make up games. And those with little kids - under 6 - mostly want to be home by 7:30 or 8. As kids get older, activities change and with junior high kids their activities seem to be late afternoon/evening. There is no "ideal time" for games, none! If someone is looking for an excuse not to go, they can find one.
  21. Can you imagine what Cougar Queen would do if he saw it?
  22. According to the Morning News today.
  23. I was startled by a head line in the print edition of the Dallas Morning News this afternoon. On page 6CC, just under the coverage of the NT game the headline read "Dominant Houston remains unbeaten in C-USA play." Now, technically that's true as no CUSA team has beaten them. But within the article, it reads"5-1, 2-0 Conference USA." Let's welcome the Cougars back!
  24. 23 point win against the strongest defense we've faced and likely the strongest in the conference. 6-1 !!!!
