  1. Actually, I heard about it from RV who was quite proud of being what he said was the only state school to be completely compliant. He did not specifically say the others were not, just the we were the only one. And this was before A&M added the equestrian team - I had forgotten about that!
  2. Let's see - attendance. RV has improved the overall game experience. Tailgating, previously banned, is now encouraged and many people on this board say it helping attendance at football games. Mean Green Club members now also have some sort of gathering before basketball games thanks to RV. The Deck, the jumbotron, improved gate access all contribute to making the experience of coming to a football game something people want to repeat. Donations. The Mean Green Club. RV took the name from the board, but donations are at an all time high to the athletic department because of this method of donation. Compliance. Because of RV we are the only state school that is now Title IX compliant. Feminist groups have been hunting for a program to sue and shut down. The UTs and A&Ms aren't worth suing because they would simply write a check. NT can do that so we have to comply and thanks to RV we are. Facilities. Much improvement need to be done, but already there are clear improvements here.
  3. Some unknown person on a anonymous computer bulletin board writes "UNT AD to ULL" and this could actually mean something?
  4. No, the Bowl gets to pick among the tied teams no matter the record. If anything, that might work against us at we've been 4 straight times. Or, it might work for us as they know we will show up!
  5. Ties are not broken anymore. The NO Bowl get to pick from the tied teams.
  6. Ok, I'll bite. What regional bowl? Ft Worth is tied to Mtn West and Big 12. They want TCU unless the Frogs are invited to a much better bowl. If it's TCU, then the certainly don't want a team from 30 miles away. Independence, Houston, Alamo and Sun bowls are all tied to other conferences as well. We aren't likely to go to a bowl other than New Orleans unless the start align perfectly. Now, last year that happened so a bunch of teams that in a normal year would have sat at home got to go bowling. Teams like Troy and the last three MAC teams don't make it even though they got 6 wins most years.
  7. I know many of you are bored with winning the conference championship 4 times in a row. Looking back at the media guide, we've only won 9 championships in the last 40 years. And 2 of those should have an asterisk as they were a while in 1AA purgatory. A team must be able to win their conference before they can look to bigger goals. This year, that is going to be a tough thing to do. But, unless you do that, the out of conference games really don't matter. I'll point out we upset Texas Tech several times while losing the conference. Those upsets got us a lot of great publicity on the Sunday after, but longer term did nothing to improve the program by getting folks to donate money to build the facilities needed to build the team. Yet, our first conference win followed by a New Orleans Bowl lose, caused the first significant upward jump in donations since Hayden's time. And, that was with a 5-7 final record. There's no way to say being blown out by LSU was not bad. Nor the loses to K State, La Tech or Tulsa. But if we had won all of them, we'd still be 2-1 in conference and needing more wins to be have chance of a bowl game.
  8. Nov 19, 6pm at Fouts.
  9. While I wish we could do it, I think will slip up one more time. I don't know which game, but I think the team still has too far to improve in too short a time.
  10. Actually it was three years later in 1978 and the game was at Texas Stadium. It was Hayden's last year here and probably his best team. We went 9-2. Then Hayden left and we had only intermittent, limited success till 2001.
  11. My guess would be OU.
  12. Dennis Franchione is God's gift to the coaching profession. Just ask him. Actually, you don't have to even ask!
  13. Wait a second now. In the Spring I was hear questions about first the youth, then the lack of experience in our Offensive line and a generally low number of returning starters. I can't remember when I heard of QB not making his grades, but I thought that was sometime over the summer. This was suppose to be a "rebuilding" year from early on. The saving grace was it looked earlier like we were catching a break by getting some other teams when they were down also. Our down year just seems to be further down than theirs is.
  14. We see the difference between alumni from the 70's and earlier and the the one after that!
  15. Didn't they have something of a down year last year? I notice 2004 doesn't seem to be included in the history on the link.
  16. First about Tech, Mike Leach has said he will not play us again for a long, long time. Secondly about the SBC being the reason for our success, I should point out that we're playing many of the same teams we played in the Big West, but not we starting winning games against teams we lost to before.
  17. Well worth the time to download!
  18. So being beat by 50 ISN'T being "really throttled?" I don't think we're in danger of giving up 100. LSU can't score that fast for that long! If nothing else, their kick off team will tire out. I do wonder if they have an equivalent of the "Wings" who do pushups for every point scored? That could get funny to watch.
  19. Scottie on the other board pointed out the line is 44 and the over/under is 48. It looks really bad.
  20. In answer to the thread, no North Texas has not killed it's CUSA appeal with a single truly awful football season! First, I don't believe Tulane is dropping football just yet. Second, conferences look at far more than a single season in a single sport's record. Lack of baseball and our current facilities hurt us more than a football team at can't beat most out of conference opponents. We are working on correcting both of those problems.
  21. Everything I've heard is you're LUCKY if you only get spat upon! It seems the LSU fans have started filling containers with liquid best left in the rest room to pour/spray/splatter on the opponents fans. At OU, Nebraska and Texas they might boo and tease you, but they do not do that!
  22. The stadium looks a bit better than Fouts, but not a LOT better than Fouts. I can understand CUSA's thinking when they looked at Fouts, LaTech's stadium and the Sun Bowl why they would pick UTEP!
  23. Why would the SBC ask SMS or whatever they are now to join? What do they have to offer - women's basketball We have enough members for now and everyone says so. With the rules changes, no one is likely to be forced to drop to 1AA. Western is making a slow, but steady move toward 1A football with a slow, but steady upgrade of their facilities. That is no reason at all for the SBC to ask SMS to join and I don't believe the conference actually did.
  24. With a red shirt freshman starting QB and a true freshman backing him up, I don't think a spread offense is a good idea. Especially if you've seen how many passes hit our receivers in the hands and get dropped! Yes, DD probalby should have recruited a better QB to give these guys some time to mature, but they don't just grow on trees. And nothing can be done about that right now anyway - we have to play with who we have. I'm not sure what to do now with what we have. I'm hoping a for some better and faster reads by both QBs and receivers.
  25. The math isn't as simple as attendance times X dollars. Since students pay as part of their fees and their attendance counts when they show up, it's a bit more complicated. But, RV said years ago that is we could average 25K at a game even at current ticket prices would could get rid of the money games.
