  1. Kids have always been more loyal to their coaches than the schools. Now they can follow them.
  2. Tim Cowlishaw has a good commentary of the transfer portal in todays DMN. The summary, most fans are going to hate it. The Dallas Morning News - TIM COWLISHAWCollege free agency creates chaos https://edition.pagesuite.com/popovers/dynamic_article_popover.aspx?artguid=7fde9a91-d325-461f-982a-2317493fd880
  3. We've got the "something Seth sucks" out of the way, now back to football.
  4. I signed up for YouTube TV around Dec 1 primarily to get bowl games. I couple of friends recommended it over Sling. I found out about no Disney this morning when I tried to find the Boco Raton Bowl. I immediately canceled and went to Sling. When canceling YouTubeTV, they asked if I was can canceling because of lack of Disney. And when I went to Sling, their splash screen read "Are you looking for ESPN and Disney? We have them!"
  5. Thanks for the explanation! I've been trying to understand it! I know several times in the past, coaches over recruited JUCO players that didn't the full 5 years to play 4 left. You can do that for a year or 2, but after that the limits on how many players you can recruit in a given year mean you play a year at less than 85 scholarship players which always results in a bad year. It appears you can still get in the same trouble with the portal, but you have an additional way to balance things out. In any case, the math of limited number of replacements in a year, 5 years to play 4, and 85 play limits mean high school players are still going to have to be the majority of your recruits except in the very usual year.
  6. I understand and that might make sense to you. But for me all of that is completely subjective to the whims of reporters with known biases against anyone from a G5 school. Personally, I prefer actual math when studying stats. In any case, the reporters accomplished one goal which was to write something at least someone controversial and get people to click and look and thus be exposed to the ads!
  7. I'm all for exploring options in the Transfer Portal, but there are a limited number of coaches to work the Portal, JUCOs and regular recruits. And that limited number of coaches only have 24 hours in a day. And there are only so many hours till signing day. Oh yeah, there's this bowl game that they should be preparing for. In short, pick your battles wisely and you will win more.
  8. I suggest everyone follow and read the actual link and NOT just look at the chart. I was wondering how Zappe could have such a terrible quarterback rating. Reading the article, it appears this isn't the standard quarterback rating system that's been used for decades. The authors of the article didn't like the results they got from that system because in their view it ranked Johnnie Manzel too high. So, the authors reworked all of the analysis until they got their desired result. Below is a link to standard quarterback rating this year for the top 100 quarterbacks. Zappe comes in at #7 overall with 167.4. The #1 spot at 207.9 is Grayson McCall of Coastal Carolina - I'm sure the ESPN analysis's hated that result and had to change the numbers until he was much lower. #2 is CJ Stroud of Ohio State at 182.2 Folks can put whatever stock they want in an article. But, personally, I don't like statistics at start with a desired result and rework the numbers until that result happens. Here are the normal, non-altered quarterback ratings for the top 100 QBs in 2021. https://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/player-stat/qb-rating-ncaa
  9. Things like this make me glad MY income doesn't depend on the whims of 18-year-old-boys.
  10. Looks like lots of money is being bet on the Mean Green is the line keeps moving that much. Remember, the purpose of the line has nothing to do with who will win, it is to get an equal amount of money bet on both sides. When too much goes onto a single side, then the line moves to attract more bets on the opposite.
  11. He hosted and produced a couple of series for the History Channel - back when they had shows about history. My favorite was Engineering and Empire. He appears to be an interesting guy. Masters from Syracuse and PhD from UCLA. https://sites.wp.odu.edu/gs101/event/peter-weller-lecture-why-school-my-phd-and-me/
  12. I get the summer edition every year. I didn't know he'd earned a Bronze Star.
  13. From the article "There are no bad bowl games. Any bowl game is better than the infomercial or useless debate show that would've been on if it didn't exist, so we cherish all bowl games."
  14. Coppell High School has a better IPF than SMU.
  15. In today's (Monday 12-6) DMN, I saw that SMU has been in fewer bowl games since 2012 than us. And, for all complaints about Littrell not winning a bowl game, we have still won more recently than SMU.
  16. How about Seth Littrell be our ... Seth Littrell. I don't understand why having a mixed record is such a difficult concept. He turned around a 1 win team to a 5 win team in season 1 which is a HUGE improvement. He then had back to back 9 win season - something at had not happed in over 40 years. He then had 2 1/2 terrible seasons. But the second half of this season he got the team to turn it around. The team didn't quit on the coach. They won six straight including beating two bowl teams. After six seasons, he's got a .500 record. It's a mixed record, certainly not the worst ever nor unbelievably good. He's in the middle.
  17. Likely a lot of them. But we should encourage a lot of our "never been to a game" fans to buy a t-shirt and come to the bowl game! We BOTH need more butts in seats.
  18. I'm surprised that some of the hypocrisy here. Some folk list "getting blown out in bowls" as a reason for firing Seth. But if Seth has the chance to blow out another team, that's somehow "wrong." Outside of the CFP, bowl games aren't about evaluating a team. Years ago the University Presidents in the NCAA decided most bowls were a reward for teams, students and fans. They specifically said that back when they passed the .500 winning percentage to get into a bowl.
  19. I'm not sure who is/was older - Paul Blake or Austin Aune.
  20. Go through the ticket office if you can. Usually, bowl games require the schools to purchase a block of tickets which then can then sell to their fans. Any tickets they don't sell they usually have to pay for anyway. The more tickets a school sells, the better it looks for future bowls. When you look at bowl "payouts," they always seem to mention a payment without including what the schools are required to pay. At most bowls, schools must buy a block of tickets, a block of hotel rooms, guarantee a minimum number of meals eaten and sometimes even more. Often, it's really hard to tell what the actual net payout really is! I'm not sure what the Frisco Bowl requires.
  21. Not really as you have to make the new coach the center of all attention for recruits, transfers and player retention. The King is dead, long live the King.
  22. I think it's a bit of both. Winning in the Pac 12 is going to be MUCH easier than the SEC. I would think it's a lot easier to show a 18 year old LA verse Norman and let him decide where it's going to be more fun to live. And Riley argued against going to the SEC and was over ruled - that can't make him feel comfortable in that job!
  23. Don't FCS teams have to have a minimum number of scholarships for wins against them to count toward FBS eligibility? I honestly don't remember the details of that so I could be wrong.
  24. USC or OU? USC fans have more teeth than OU fans. And most actually went to a college, if not the college of their t-shirts. I think there's no question it will be far harder for OU in the SEC than the Big XII, regardless of the division they wind up in. Yes, A&M has been roughly the same but "same" for Aggie means middle of the pack. OU has been at the top of the Big XII for quite a while.
  25. Our last ranked win was back when they only ranked the Top 20!
