  1. Can A&M paid an $86 million buy out for Jimbo - yes, they certainly can. Is that amount inconsequential to them? No, most definitely NOT. You can be certain the donors to the buy out will be expecting a home run coach or will insist on firing the athletic director AND the coach very quickly. Aggies are not patient.
  2. I'm not at a place I can easily check the channels. Who is carrying the game? I looked on my phone at meangreen.com, but instead of a channel I all they show is a icon of a camera and the link doesn't do any thin on my phone. Thanks!
  3. Just say no to a second FCS team. I still subscribe to the Bill Snider scheduling school - if you are in a strong conference, then a generally weaker OCC schedule can build your total number of wins and give your team confidence going into the conference schedule. Snider almost always had one FCS/1AA team on the schedule but not two. The AAC is clearly a strong G5 conference. Staying with that, I hope we can find a lower G5 team for an additional home game. I'm thinking a one off or the return game well into the future. A 7th home game against an FBS team would show incredible progress in scheduling. Failing a home game, then still a lower G5 team. I think we all recognize the AAC is going to be substantially stronger than CUSA. There is no reason to take an already tougher schedule and make it harder still. Our fans want wins or they won't show up at all. They don't care who the other team is if we lose as we've learned through the years.
  4. No they won’t. High school varsity doesn’t play on Tuesdays or Wednesdays!
  5. I was reading from a California columnist that covers the Pac 12. Someone asked him the same question. He wrote no. The Pac evaluates based on athletics, academics and then market size. SDSU checks all the boxes including being the 27th media market. UNLV has meh athletics, poor academics and they are in the 40th media market.
  6. Usually, OCC contracts are canceled when the schools both join the same conference. If one or both leave, then the contracts much be renegotiated.
  7. Ouch! I hope they can return before the bowl game!
  8. Bowl eligible is not just six wins. The NCAA definition includes a number of exceptions to the six win minimum. And in 2020 the NCAA effectively said if you were willing and "COVID able" you could go. Frankly I wish they would just drop 2020 from all the records. The NCAA had already said it doesn't count as far as players are concerned. It probably shouldn't count for anything at all.
  9. If Aune leads us to a conference championship this year, I think a lot of the complaints about him will go away!
  10. Let's evaluate the coaches after the season ends. Too much can happen between now and then!
  11. Interesting to see the pinned tweet about how great our facilities are with a picture that shows a LOT of trees. The picture was taken this weekend by a first time visitor who was very impressed with our campus.
  12. The NT athletic department isn't going to let him just ride out the current contract as it would hurt the program too much. Here's the recruiting conversation without some kind of change. "Son, why would you want to go to North Texas? Their own athletic director doesn't even believe in their coach! Why should you show any confidence in him if they don't? After he's gone, you have no way of knowing if the next coach will want you. We do. And our athletic department supports us." If they only extend Littrell for a year or two, then "Why should you go to North Texas? They wouldn't give their coach any kind of real extension because they expect him to fail. Not only do the expect him to fail, they want to be able to fire him as cheaply as possible! Do you want to join a program that won't commit and plans based on their believe their coach is going to fail? Come to our school - we support our programs."
  13. Neither party wants to work with the other ever again!
  14. I remember many thinking the Big XXII would break up so badly some of those schools would be willing to join the AAC. Not likely to happen for a while!
  15. Didn't the University of California System board pass some kind of resolution of condemnation of the BYU code of ethics in the last couple of years? Even with UCLA out of the PAC, I find it hard to Cal or Oregon or Washington accepting BYU unless they renounce for the their LDS honor code restrictions. It's not that BYU doesn't want to join the PAC, but rather that PAC doesn't want to deal with large student protests every time a BYU team is on campus for a game.
  16. No rational person was mad the first three years. Year 1 - huge turn around even with a losing record. Years 2 & 3 - back to back 9 win seasons for the second time ever. If things stay on track, Year 7 - 7 or 8 wins. People are mostly upset about Years 4 & 5 and to a limited degree Year 6. So two or three bad years out of 7.
  17. I don't think you read the part of the article you quoted. Read the whole point one and you see the "for UNT" is because we started the season poorly with two blowouts and many people doubted this team would be bowl eligible at all this season. The "for UNT" has absolutely nothing to do with anything before other than the first five games of this season!
  18. I don't think so. However, people rarely realize they are in a "golden age" while it is happening.
  19. Looking at some of his social media besides twitter, he still has a full time real job in IT. Plus, he's got four daughters including a couple (at least) that are still in grade school. The guy is busy. Everything I read he's doing a generally good job as mayor except tweeting about UNT. If you're a Denton resident and concerned, pick up the phone and call him. Send him an email. Go to a Chamber of Commerce event and talk to him personally. He's not some unreachable guy! The UNT Homecoming should be promoted mostly by UNT. It is FAR more than a football game! It should be UNT coordinating promotions with the city AND the county. But you can't do that the week of the event - they should have started in July or August planning the promotions! That UNT dropped the promotion opportunity is not the Mayor of Denton's fault.
  20. That is better than Brett simply making up quotes! Of course, I'll be he could write some very interesting articles is he chose to make up some quotes!
  21. True! But Thursdays are even worse!
  22. A Thursday night home game for Rice certainly won't help their average attendance.
  23. Back in the 70s, the color was somewhere between apple green and chartreuse, leaning a bit closer to chartreuse.
  24. From the article, “It could have been targeting,” Littrell said. “That’s why they have cameras and review. They made their professional judgment, and they didn’t think it was targeting. I’m not going to comment on officials. “They have a job to do and made the call.” I’m glad Littrell chose not to criticize the officials. As a coach, that can only cause problems for him and the team going forward. But what do you the Brett? How was that NOT targeting other than just a total mistake on the part of the officials? And the thought we even have a chance to get Adaway back is great news!
