Another great breakdown. Thanks!

Yeah, talk about an opportunity! It would be amazing if it happens. <dream> Win all of those and we've gotta' move to at least #3 because UNLV/BS would have met by then. Liberty has a pretty easy schedule until they finish out with WKY and SHSU the last two games. Finally, knock off Navy (after they've beaten Notre Dame earlier in the year) in the conference championship game. Then Navy beats Army to go to 12-1. I think our schedule strength puts us ahead of Liberty and the UNLV/BS winner. </dream>

There's been a few years where our line was so bad that the QB was black and blue for most of the season!

I'd say it's pretty helpful for anybody that is traveling to the game. There's a 30 minute unknown, but it let's people know if it's going to be a morning game or night one and can make lodging/flight plans accordingly. The channel choice is really a non-factor. Is there anybody that has ESPNU and not ESPN2 or vice versa?

You wanna' put butts in seats? Here's the solution. Beat FAU. Play the Memphis game like the Arkansas game, instead of the TTech game. Win the Tulane game. The Army game will be a sellout. Alternatively, play Memphis like TTech. Lose to Tulane. Watch Army run and throw all over us. There'll be 10k or less at the rest of the games.

No. 73 in CBS 134 Rankings: Oct. 7, 2024

Because #36 could have put 100 on us. -
Wow, that's crazy. I had to go to bed, so didn't see the end. I wasn't really watching it but just had it on in the background and knew Cal was just marching all over the field when I hear his name called after they had gotten near the goal line. I had to rewind to see that they had brought him in for a running play. Yeah, this was probably his only play of the game. Anyway, the way Cal was playing, I would have been shocked if I checked the score this morning. Looks like Miami's finally decided to play in the 4th qtr.

Maybe they need to shut down their program every 10 years and spend a couple of years loading up with a bunch of 25 year olds?

And he just scored a TD to make it 35-10 with 8:00 to go in 3rd.

Counting his money.

Not AAC, but SMU-Louisville tied at 27-27 with about 7:30 to go and SMUt fumbles on the 5 but apparently they have part of their NIL money allocated to the Refs as the fumble got overturned.

I keep saying the same thing about Frisco (and the surrounding area). We are the closest FBS team to that huge influx of people. Make them feel like they are a part of the MG family.

Tulsa was lucky that they took the opening kick and most of their drives burned up a lot of time in the first half including a 7:12 scoring drive. I'm afraid the way army is scoring is what we're going to see on 11/09. They had scoring drives of: 1:28, 3:26, and 1:41. We're going to have to score a TD on every possession and have no turnovers and maybe get a turnover for us.

I appreciate your attempts to think outside the box and propose something that will work to get more interest in our games. A lot of what you suggested is great and will eventually help if we start winning, especially given EM's offense which is much more exciting to fans. However, marketing has little effect on people that simply aren't interested in your product. Of the nearly half a million alumni (300k+ in DFW area) probably 80-90% just don't care. They didn't care when they were in school and they don't care now. The ONLY thing that will get people interested in UNT football is WINNING and doing it CONSISTENTLY and I suspect the majority of people that eventually start coming to our games if we start winning aren't even alumni. They'll be our own version of T-shirt fans, but that's okay. But we have to start WINNING and not $%&* the bed every time we get close to breaking through. In our 42 seasons of FBS from 1970 to now, we've only had 12 winning seasons, with 6 of those coming in the 12 seasons before the 1983 drop to I-AA and 6 in the nearly 30 seasons since the return to FBS in 1995. Our 12 seasons of I-AA had some of our best success, with winning seasons in 6 of the 12: 1983, 1986-1990, which included two teams going to the I-AA playoffs. Those 6 winning seasons of I-AA encompassed the entirety of my attendance at UNT, so I'm pretty familiar with the FB atmosphere at the time, and despite it being enjoyable, attendance was still a problem. There were attempts to get the frats involved, but they mostly attended for a half while spending most of the time not even watching the game. Then there were the T-shirt fans for other schools. You couldn't swing a dead cat w/o hitting a AtM, UT, or OU, etc. shirt when you walked around campus. You know they weren't interested in UNT FB. We've seen a couple of times how we can actually get a great crowd to show up, e.g. bowl games, but the bottom line is to get that enthusiasm, you have got to put a WINNING team on the field and it can't be once every 8 years.

I really would like to win one of the Memphis/Tulane games, but I'm afraid it's not likely. Hopefully, the off week gets some injuries cured and provide additional practice for those that have had to fill in for lost players. At a minimum, I want us to play both of those games competitively. Otherwise, this starts looking more like an SL team (beat the bad teams, lose to the good ones). Would love to see us beat Memphis and get a great crowd for the Tulane game. Get a win against them and the place should be rockin' for the Army game!

Thursday/Friday FBS/FCS Games - 10/3 and 10/4
meaniegreenie replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Thanks for the article link! I found this quote regarding NIL interesting. It essentially points out that current NIL has NOTHING to do with "Name, Image, Likeness". NIL was intended to let the players have a portion of the revenue generated by the use of their "N,I,L". The fact that there are pre-existing pools of money and that others have control over how this money is allocated shows that this is absolutely not the case. -
Thursday/Friday FBS/FCS Games - 10/3 and 10/4

“The NCAA fully supports college athletes profiting from their NIL, but unfortunately there is little oversight or accountability in the NIL space and far too often promises made to student-athletes are broken,” the NCAA said in a Wednesday statement without specifically mentioning Sluka or UNLV. Well maybe if the controlling organization (now, who could that be???) hadn't ceded all power to a few schools and conferences, then maybe there would have been some oversight and accountability. Is that kinda' like one of these?

From that article: Seems like GH just isn't the same without having a bit of help from Patrick Cobbs.
