***OFFICIAL UNT vs. UTSA IN-GAME DISCUSSION***
meaniegreenie replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Hey, in case y'all haven't heard, nUTSAck has had several injuries this year. -
I used to DVR them when they were on TV, so always watched them. I think they stopped making them for a couple of years, but I didn't even know they were making them again. I guess they're online only now?? Like you say, it was really well done such that you got to know some of the players much better.
-
I always remarked that the one good thing about us being mediocre is the short lines. On the rare times when we're good and a quality opponent shows up to produce a good crowd, i.e. >25k, we have entrance lines, concession lines, and toilet lines. The difference may only be 7k from a regular game, but it seems like there's 15k more and we're not prepared for it.
-
Which has happened. I was turned away a few years ago WITH A BLUE SEASON PASS because it was "full".
-
Actually, it's on the TAX PAYERS! 😀
-
While we're complaining about things, can someone get some help to the video team to show them what a REPLAY is and when to show one? I realize that our fast-paced offense makes that difficult sometimes, but that was definitely not the issue today.
-
I'm sure there's more to it than that but good for suggesting. Sitting in a stadium for 4hrs with back problems is no fun. Believe me, I know.
-
The last one couldn't either. I guess air-raid offenses don't work if they take a week off.
-
Yeah, the defense has had more than it's share or problems all year, but FOR TODAY's GAME, I hope both Eric and Chandler Morris stood up in the locker room and took acceptance for letting them down. The D more than held up their end of the load today after being put in terrible positions and with no drive consuming time or scoring support from the O. Yes, the defense is at fault for letting Army stay on the field for long drives, but that's what their team does. Our D came up with turnovers and kept fighting to the end after being on the field for over 2/3rds of the game because our high-powered offense did very little.

Not a big fan. But it makes me wonder if any team has ever worn uniforms in some form of camo pattern?

That's a great list, assuming Mercado Juarez is the Mexican place that I used to go to. There was a Mexican restaurant (possibly 2 locations), and I think they were owned by 2 brothers. One of the unique things about the place was they served a bowl of pickled veggies (cauliflower, carrots, mushrooms?,etc.) with every meal. Is this that place? I seem to recall it was located South of 380 and West of Carroll, maybe near Malone or Ector St., but that was 35+ yrs ago, so hard to remember. There's also a place called El Matador that I now see in Denton and that name sounds familiar too, so maybe that was it. I ate a LOT of chicken fried steaks (actually sandwiches) at the Texas Pickup and celebrated a lot of basketball wins in the late 80s at the State Club. I also did a lot of damage on "all you can eat" catfish night (Wed?) at Captain D's on 380/Bonnie Brae. Also, ventured over to Krum for catfish and ribs a few times at the Clay Pot.

Yeah, we're #121, but it's not like they've been facing lots of top 50 defenses: ECU #94 UAB #91 Tulsa #123 FAU #107 Rice #23 Temple #93 AFA #68 The worst thing is that I just don't think we can stop them. Many times in the recent games, our D has gotten a 3-and-out, but a lot of those were due to questionable calls by the other offense or bad/dropped passes on 3rd and 6. If they hand the ball to someone and drag us for 8 yds every play or run for 35 on a sweep, there's not much chance of them shooting themselves in the foot. I don't see us stripping 3 fumbles from their RBs.
-
*IF* we had won the last two games and then beat a ranked 6-0 Army team to take the conference lead at 5-0 with 3 relatively easy games to go, I wouldn't tear down the goalposts, but I'd consider going down on the field to be in the middle of all of the fun.
-
I know stats and rankings don't really mean all that much because they also depend on who you've played and field position, but we're the #3 offense in the nation (#121 defense) and the teams they've played have the following rankings (defense): Stats based on Total Offense and Total Defense: ECU #65 (#94) UAB #67 (#91) Tulsa #78 (#123) FAU #92 (#107) Rice #113 (#23) Temple #119 (#93) AFA #131 (#68) That's only 2 defenses above #90 and the best offense of #65. Maybe we have a bit of a chance if we can stop stupid mistakes, keep moving the ball, and making just a few stops. A turnover would help too.
-
Have you watched an Army game this year? They can pass the ball just as well as run it.
-
Sorry if this has been posted already. There's an interesting green bird hanging out near the top and pretty far to the right. Would hate to see an equivalent graphic for points given up!

His dad should call up the coach and bitch him out about not giving his talented kid any kind of defensive support.

****OFFICIAL TULANE VS UNT IN-GAME DISCUSSION****
meaniegreenie replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
When your "air raid" offense has multiple 3-and-outs in a game, that's another problem. I thought the typical problem with AR was that it could get lots of yardage but then stall out in the red zone. We have too many 3-5 play possessions that either get 0 or 1 first downs. -
I agree that the offense had a long stretch of being poor. Some of it was play calling, some of it was bad blocking, and some of it was their defense playing well. I'm hesitant to say the defense "took over". They played okay at times, but honestly, Memphis shot themselves in the foot numerous times to end drives.

The off-season can’t get here fast enough

I doubt we win either of the next two games, but if I didn't pull for us to win, then what's the point of being a fan? -

Okay, just for grins, I put together this chart of the 5 teams that sorta' think they've got a chance at the CCG and to keep our green glasses on for another week. Yes, it's a big "if" in assuming we win out, but we aren't out of it even though we've got the toughest road ahead of anybody on the list. So, right now, you've got Memphis, Tulane, Army, Navy, and NT. The expectation is Army-Navy in the CCG which is likely. Also, the expectation that we win out is pretty slim, but that's why we're fans! Now, assuming all of these teams beat all of the other unlisted teams in their remaining games, i.e. no spoiler games from ECU, UTSA, etc., then if the following wins/losses happen, here's what you have (assuming I didn't make a mistake which is definitely possible) So, the CCG is either: Navy(0) vs NT(1) since we have the head-to-head win over Army OR (if Tulane beats Navy), then you have 4 teams with 1 loss: Navy, Army, Tulane, NT Navy L to Tulane Tulane L to NT Army L to NT NT L to Memphis With NT having victories over 2 of the teams, I would think we'd get in. Memphis beat us, so I guess they would be the other team??? I don't know if AAC uses national ranking as part of the selection process, so that might play into the picture. If the second scenario played out, it'd be funny for both Army and Navy to get pushed out of the CCG with each having only 1 conf loss! -

That's my feeling too. Since we hadn't really played anybody except for TT (and we know what that showed), I was afraid they were significantly better than us. They made nearly as many bad plays as us but they were generally a better tackling team. -

I don't think we're that far away if we can just keep things going in the right direction w/o losing half the team again and get somebody in that can replace Caponi (like your suggestion). I may have missed a couple of names, but after 2024, we lose from our current team (which has several out due to injuries) on Offense: Receivers: Conwright and Ward O/L: Duncan, Peterson, Blair R/B: I don't know if we get any of them back due to an injury waiver year (or if they are even seniors) On Defense: LB: Jordan Brown, Jaylen Smith DL: Roderick Brown, Jake Shipley CB: Texada FS: Jayden Hill If we can keep the majority of the Offensive players with eligibility and shore up the Defense with a few more players AND a new DC, we can be a lot better than we are now. -

You're saying our O is working well and S/T was iffy, but you don't want to go for 2?
