Who Should We Hire to be Our DC Next Season?
meaniegreenie replied to Side.Show.Joe's topic in Mean Green Football
I was going to post this in another thread but this seems like it might be more appropriate here since this thread is already providing suggestions. There's already a couple of suggestions that fall into category 1a. This would be the best choice and hopefully we can find enough money to attract someone in this group. From which source do you think we should/could hire the next DC? (I may have missed some sources, so add any category that I may have missed.) Also, specifically, which coach(es) from the chosen category do you think would be available? What reasons would they have for being interested in the job at UNT? 1a) An active DC from a successful G5 or a P5 program 1b) A DC from a P5 program that has been fired (fired lately or last season) 1c) A DC from a "good" G5 program that has been fired (fired lately or last season) 1d) An active DC from an "equal" G5 or good FCS program 1e) An active DC from any other G5/P5/FCS program 2) A DC that is currently retired 3a) Someone that has not been a DC but was a good Assistant from a "better" G5 or P5 program 3b) Someone that has not been a DC but was a good Assistant from an "equal" G5 4) Someone from other sources (HS HC, lower levels, etc., pros, Rigel 7???) Option 1a: I'm not sure how we could get one w/o a serious money offer. Options 1b,1c: Do we want a fired DC? Options 1d,1e: Is this where we have to look??? Option 2: Are there any retired DCs that might be interested in working again? Options 3,4: From most opinions on GMG, I think these are out -
How would YOU fix this defense?
meaniegreenie replied to Green with Envy's topic in Mean Green Football
There was one really obvious play late in the game when they were running (maybe an out pass) to the left side and after a bit of a gain, he cut back to the middle. Someone in the middle was simply standing there and made a quick reaction as the play began coming back toward him. Sometimes things aren't what they seem, but it sure looked like he had given up on the play since it was further away and had to react when it started coming back his way instead of pursuing all along. -
Yeah, this was a huge issue. EM did say in his post-game that they supposedly had a scheme for blocking (via cut blocks) on the plays that had the blocked passes. He said that on one of these, it was a total whiff (by the guard??) that caused the issue. He said the other was a "freak" block by the noseguard who was not expected to be in a location to block it and it's something he didn't think he'd ever seen.

The other difference is that SL could only beat teams that were worse and better teams didn't just beat us, they destroyed us. I'm not happy with the situation, but we are playing better and against better teams. Still, there's no excuse for the defense being as bad as this and w/o a DC change, I'm not sure it gets much better next year. EM needs to recognize this and make changes.

I wish someone would ask Morris what benefit is being achieved by continuing to run this defense this year w/o the necessary players. I would accept (not necessarily agree with) a response that defends it but not a response that doesn't provide some sort of rationale for continuing this. Actually, he said in his after-game interview that he is accepting any suggestions. Well, I think we have a few ideas of things to try.

Did we retire score prediction threads?

So, it's just the one? Either way, I'm glad to see it.

I barely saw the uniform (noticed a black jersey) but was too caught up in the overall concept of the video. Really great idea and does Denton really have Mean Green fire trucks??? I've always felt like Denton has such little interest in UNT that I'm really surprised by this! Now to go back and watch it again to see the complete uniform combo.

Back in the 80s, I knew lots of students that were big T-shirt fans of Tamu, UT, etc. that had very little interest in NT football. I'm sure that's even worse today, adding a few SEC schools into that list.

MGR: Memphis @ North Texas Photos (Updated Monday)
meaniegreenie replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah, all great! -
Yeah, I want to see a replay too. It was in the air so long, I was thinking we should be able to get a pick. Apparently our DB must have been a mile away.

***OFFICIAL Memphis State vs UNT Game Thread***
meaniegreenie replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
I've never checked out one of these desperation plays after a game but saw this in the ESPN summary. I think there might have been 2 illegal pass calls on the play. -
Coach Morris you decided on your inexperienced DC

I didn't like the deep ball on 4th down, but I think the team expected an offsides call and performed the usual reaction of going for the TD, thinking it was a free play. -
PAC-12 Refs Give USC a Extra Second-Quarter Play After Halftime
meaniegreenie replied to rcade's topic in Mean Green Football
I didn't read the entire story, but I wouldn't be surprised that the refs determined this pretty quickly after half but not before teams had gone into the lockers. They may have notified both teams that an additional play would be done at the start of the half but didn't want to bring everyone out and then start halftime all over. Still a very unusual occurrence and really questionable since it allowed the kicker to practice the exact kick during halftime. -

What's the NIL/portal rate for good defensive players? How many can you get for $400k? -
IIRC, ten years earlier, it was about 1/3 of that.

Family has filed a lawsuit against the coach, school, etc.. Apparently he was moved to another residence due to "mold" in his previous location. The parents supposedly notified the coach that it was a dangerous situation with the new roommate and that someone had pulled a gun on him 3 days earlier. https://www.khou.com/article/news/crime/northwestern-state-ronnie-caldwell-shooting-lawsuit/285-3da88fd7-62b5-45a7-b5ef-e88b177740f3

It's surprising we never had that on a helmet (this was someone's mockup and not real, correct?). And how is it that every helmet between the lime-green flying worm and the white "throwback" flying worm are the absolute worst ones in our history. I have a little affection for the first one (83?) since it is coincides with my start at NT). It seems like we could have gotten something decent during this time. In fact, this would have been a great time to try out the interlocking NT one.

I think the blue and copper were way WORSE than any addition of black.

Maclin Added to Biletnikoff Award Watch List
meaniegreenie replied to DeepGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Wow, there's 59 players on that list. -
Yeah, he's gotta' be so much happier to be here. I mean, if nothing else, he's not in Monroe.

So you enjoy having some of your best players taken out by cheap shots? You gonna' just say "big picture" if a nUTSAck player takes out Rogers' knee with a cheap shot? What if a two Tulsa players blindside Rauschenberg after an extra point and take him out for the season? What is this "big picture" related to dirty players supposed to be? Should we start using this in our play?

Agree on both mistakes, but give me MORE of that Badass Eagle!!!!
