Nobody wants to remember a punt as a great play, but against MTSU, with the wind at his back, bouncing on what we called astroturf (more like cement), that ball traveled about 90 yards. Sorry, I don't remember the punter's name, but it helped seal the deal and start us on a run of 4 straight years of dominance.

I've heard the same. Mack resigns at the banquet Friday. Saban announced Monday. I'm not sure I trust my source though.

Defensive much? Your statement was that Mack loses 4 games a year on a regular basis. Not true. I call it a LIE! Have they been in a tailspin? Yes. Are they close to pulling out of it? Depends on who you ask. If OU wins and Texas wins (I agree both things are not realistic) Texas wins the Big 12. At the very least they lose 4 games and go to a bowl. Still pretty impressive considering the tailspin you claim they were in. There are criticisms of Mack Brown to be sure (can't develop a QB, underachieve, loyal to a fault), but to say he's not a winner or to claim he hasn't done great things at Texas is asinine. Texas didn't start winning recruiting battles UNTIL Mack got there. Are you not going to give him credit for that? Texas HS athletes were going out of state left and right before Mack got there. One of the first things he did was say "We're putting up a border around the state. Top tier Texas recruits are coming to UT." He also brought Darrell Royal back on campus. He called Texas fans out for being apathetic and made game day a fun atmosphere. Mack Brown had the same resources available to him the previous 4 coaches had (along with the same pressure) and made it work. It's funny you sound like all the Texas fans I speak to on a regular basis saying, "He hasn't done enough." His team won a National Championship and played for another one! That aint easy, I don't care who you recruit. Bob Stoops also pulls in top tier recruits on a yearly basis, but I don't hear the same amount of hatred spewed about him. If you are counting they have the same number of crystal trophies. Mack Brown also does it with class and dignity. I'm gonna get called out on this for being a Longhorn fan. But I make the same argument for Bob Stoops. The fact that anyone wants them removed from their job just baffles me.

This is Mack Brown's 16th year at Texas There have only been 4 season in which he has recorded 4 or more losses. That is far from year after year.

Can't believe we're talking about the Dodge's again. Riley coming to UNT was bad for both Todd and Riley. Todd coached to promote his son. Riley wasn't a D1 QB. It would have been better for both if RD had gone to Texas. I'm still not sure TD would have succeeded here, but he was clearly distracted having his son on the team. On Texas fans...They are un-freaking-grateful! I've been on this kick all year. Big push to get Mack out of town. They forget how far down this program had been before Mack got to Texas. He has done SO much for them, even winning a national championship. Playing in what was arguably the most exciting NC game ever. It was just 4 years ago (I think) they were in another national title game. I have criticism of Mack, but if I were a Texas grad (as most of my family is) getting rid of Mack wouldn't even be a consideration. It just disgusts me. I hear Bob Stoops is under the same gun at OU. I lived in OKC when he was hired. Granted, it wasn't the same dumpster fire Todd Dodge left us with, but in relation to where OU had been and where it was in 1999, a comparison can be made. Both Stoops and Brown have resurrected once proud programs back to national recognition. Each has won a title and had a shot for another. They are proven winners.. But I guess the grass is always greener when you're in Austin or Norman. UNGRATEFUL!

How will you be following the Tulsa game?

Stat tracker while working the Tulane/Rice game. It's my last game of the season. Wish I was in Tulsa. -
That's a lot of faith in our athletic dept.

I'm reeling. More than most. So I'm looking for a silver lining. We don't have a true rival. Sure we'd like SMU or TTech to be a rivaly game, (and an SMU rivalry might actually be on the horizon) but this defeat sets up a very good rivalry. We don't think they've earned their stripes...They don't think. Really. They don't think. I've met grads from UTSA. Plankton have more developed brain cells. But back to the rivalry thing. Be PISSED OFF! BEAT THOSE BASTARDS NEXT TIME! FUDGE UTSA!!!!!!!!!!!

Airplane from Nashville to Austin. The flight attendant commented on my sweatshirt and said we were doing well with his old coach.

Is it going to be a black out on Thursday?
EagleD replied to hickoryhouse's topic in Mean Green Football
It's pretty easy to see where RV got the idea for this. The game we just played was SMiss's black out game. This weekend a local told me it usually sells out. Personally, I don't care if everybody wears pink hot pants, so long as it fills up! PULL YOUR PINK OUT! Now that's a promotion. -
There's a McDonald's near Southern Miss's stadium
EagleD replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Just rolled into town myself. Not a lot of time to look around before I went to work. Why the hell would you eat at McyD's? There are plenty of locally owned establishments I noticed on my way from campus to the hotel. If it weren't for an extreme lack of sleep, I'd go enjoy this town a little. I normally do. The best I an do is get a 6er of a regional brew (I try to sample local breweries, this time "Naked Pig") grab a pizza, and crash for 10 hours while watching BYU/Boise St. On a different note, I see a lot of people wearing Southern Miss gear. I mean a LOT of people. Maybe cuz they are the only game in town. Maybe b/c it's homecoming. Maybe cuz they do have a good tradition of winning here, but they were winless last year. Winless so far this year, but people still seem excited to party. It's much the same vibe I got at ECU earlier this year. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!! -
I've thought about this a lot lately. Dodge made two huge errors in my opinion. The first was hiring his HS coaching staff year one. The second was recruiting his son. Dodge clearly can evaluate talent. Many of our current top performers were Dodge recruits. But by hiring his SLC coaches he opted for coaches who knew his HS system rather than coaches who know the college game. It really set him back. He may be able to evaluate talent, but coaches? Not so much. By getting Riley he had to continue to straddle the line of "coach" and "Dad". That might work in HS but neither of them were allowed to grow and learn in college with the other one around. I still like Todd Dodge but I'm glad he's gone.

I was told there is a GREAT BBQ joint but can't remember the name. I'll be there, but I'll be in a tv production truck. Can't believe I get paid to watch NT football.
