Serious Big-Time Football this Saturday!
EagleD replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Just a quick chance to gloat... I'll be at the Big XII game... in a suite... with an open bar...for free! I must be living right. Downside to this is a return trip to Austin Sunday morning to work a gig I couldn't get out of. GO MEAN GREEN! GO FREE STUFF! -
And Good stuff. These are the two points I identify with best, but... Army/Navy (go Army beat Navy) is not the same w/o Mussberger, and I freakin love "Countdown with Kieth Olbermann". I think that makes me MSNBC's only viewer. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!

This is NOT the same coaching staff that won 4 straight championships. There are key differences, namely Gary DeLoach. We feel his absence in our recruiting efforts and defensive philosophy.

Anyone watch the Colorado/Nebraska game? Security cleared out an entire student section. For what you ask? Throwing objects on the field! Next to LSU, Colorado fans are the most arrogant, obnoxious fans in the country. And I'm sure they were not throwing tortillas, but they were thrown out for throwing stuff on the field. You'd have to be Nolan Ryan to even come close to hitting our sidelines, but throwing crap from the stands is just a plain bad idea, and CAN have a detrimental effect! Alright, fire away. Just make sure those torts aren't deep fried. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!

If we were in a more competitive league it might. But I think DD gets a pass on this down year as do his assts. If the collapse happens again next year, then jobs will be on the line. Losing sucks! GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Yeah, Trilli had good recruiting classes but forgot to coach them once they got here. He did come from the Tom Penders school of "Jack up a three, then don't play defense." I'm looking for big things this year. I still have lots of left over green Kool-Aid from the footbal season. Anyone else? GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And there are way too many idiots with guns. Keep your spirits up, brother. Know that what you do benefits mankind and makes this world a better place. My condolences.

GGII, I try to stay away from your posts (just a bit schizophrenic for my taste). Since it's part of my job to keep track of Texas football, I want to respond. I think the key for Texas is that Vince gets GREAT protection. Their offensive line does a wonderful job. WR Limus Sweed is a very good reciever, RB Ramonce Taylor is a star in the making, and the entire defense is simply put, a force. USC may be a better team, but Texas is so much more than just Vince Young. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!

I'm offended by that statement. Now I'm going to take my toys and go home. So there! -
I don't know if you can use this to measure the strength of our Women's BB team, but they beat the Houston Jaguars 87-56, while the UT Longhorns WBB team got beat by that very same club. The horns team is young and don't look as good as in years past, but I take this as a huge positive. I remain coustiously optomistic. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm reposting this b/c i think it's valid: I'm trying real hard to stay out of Tortilla Gate, but bashing these particular fans seems out of whack to me. So let me add my 2 cents. Fans have thrown tortillas for years. Like it or hate it, it's fact. If the administration wanted to change the rules they should have let the fans know in no uncertain terms that the throwing of torts will not be allowed. Just having security suddenly confront fans about torts is going to create some problems. The admin should have been proactive in this. Say it. Repeat it. Repeat it again and again. In short: CYA! Try this analogy: If you have been attending class and turning in assignments in blue ink, then half way through you start getting marks off b/c you aren't using black ink, you're going to be upset (of course we should all be using green ink). You have a legitimate complaint even if the syllabus says only turn in assignments in black ink. The athletic dept. should have chosen a side on this long ago. Either embrace the "tradition" (I use that term loosley) or ban it and let it be known that it will not be tolerated! Don't just spring it on the fans. Just because we all see the draw play coming doesn't mean we are all mind readers! For the record I'm anti tortilla tossing. Unless it's filled with fajita meat and tossed with a Shiner Bock behind it.

Ring. Ring. Excuse me, Mr DeLoach. Did you say you wanted a HEAD coaching position? GO MEAN GREEN.

So we are in a rebuilding year. I know it was inevitable we'd lose a conference game or two, or more, and we are rebuilding. Here's what I want to know. Are we rebuilding? Do we actually have the depth to think we can win our conference next year? I'm all for taking one on the chin if it means we learn, grow and move on. I want to know if we've recruited the talent to move us forward. Not just that, but do we have the coaches we need to achieve this goal? I'm not saying we don't have those things in place. I just want honest feedback from fans with more expertise than me. I'm Trying hard not to flame, but the green Kool-Aid is burning my gut.

I did not, but my college roomate / best friend did. The summer of their senior year they went to France. My favorite line from him is, "If my parents call, don't tell them I went to Europe. I'm using some of my tuition money." Oh, to be young again....
-
I love that band. The best is their version of "People are strange". They have been around for ages. They played at my best friend/college roomates wedding reception. Great to hear they are still grooving.

Is a woman who lives there known as a "big country woman"? -
It was like 10 bucks for a month or a discounted rate for an extended period.

Calvin, Good points. But we've raised our expectations. That's not necesarilly a bad thing. As a matter of fact, it's a good thing. Yes, we whine some, maybe too much, but we have an expectation of success and when we don't meet that expectation, we complain. We are not unique. It's true everywhere. Our bar used to be set at having a .500 season. It then became win conference Next was sweep conference and have OOC wins. We moved the bar higher, and we are not reaching that mark. It's frustrating, but we musn't move backward. Always expect more. Always. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
