I agree. Please don't embarrass our coach or university. I think it would be great if we all called and gave him our support and encouraged him to make a game plan to BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!!

One of the local Austin radio stations (1300 "The Zone") will be in Denton tomorrow (Friday) to preview the Mean Green. Craig Way's show is on from 2pm - 4pm. Craig is the voice of the Longhorns and is also an NT alum. Not only that, Craig is a walking sports encyclopedia, and a hell of a nice guy. He will interview Dickey, but I don't know what time. This was done a couple of years ago and I may have been the only caller. I, of course, asked Dickey about the '88 robbery, and he shyed away from answering it. So this is your chance to hear from DD and call in. Here's the link: 1300 "The Zone" I expect to hear a flood of calls from Denton! Make me proud Mean Green Nation. I don't want to be the only caller, but I will. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!! BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TEXAS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quick story. Getting the oil changed on my '99 Jeep Wrangler the other day, the guy pulled out my air filter, showed me how dirty it was and said, "This is where 30 percent of your fuel savings come from." I said, "Wow that's misleading. Are you telling me that if I change my air filter I'll get 30% better gas milage?" He so wanted to say yes, but looked at the logo on my shirt and saw I worked for a media outlet and revised his statement. I then went to the auto parts store down the street, bought one at half the cost and changed it out myself. They also wanted to charge me 10 dollars to replace a brake light. I laughed in his face, bought one for 50 cents and did it myself. My Jeep Wrangler gets about 20 mph depending if I have the top up or down, city or highway. It's amazing the drag you get by having the top down. My wifes Honda Civic gets unbelievable mileage. We're bringing it up for the SMU game. Unfortunately the NT stickers are all over my Jeep and the Longhorn decal is on her Civic. I really think a hybrid is in my future, but I just love my Jeep. Maybe that's why I take such good care of it. Enough about my car. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!! BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TEXAS !!!!!!!!!!

So UT has a new jumbotron and it's supposed to be the biggest one available (I've seen it, it's huge!). It's designed for the new 16x9 High Def ratio. But if you think you'll see the players full screen on that thing, larger than life...think again. While the screen is designed for a 16x9 ratio, the equipment used to shoot the screen is still the old 3x4 standard definition. What does that mean? Well, the new video screen will be split into two sections. One side live action, the other will have graphics (stats, sponsors, etc.). It's a complete waste of money on UT's part. In order to put a picture up full screen on that thing they will have to spend even more cash (cash I'm sure they have) to rent a high def truck with a new switcher, cameras etc., but they refuse to spend the extra money. I'm sure by next year the powers that be will dig even deeper into their pockets to change this, but I think it's a classic example of putting the cart before the horse. Don't get me wrong. I'm a little jealous that NT doesn't have this problem. But I also think it's a sad state that the UT athletic program has that kind of cash to just throw around, and they can still be considered cheap. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!! BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TEXAS!!!!!!!! (again)

Nebraska? I thought I heard that. If not let me be the firs to start an internet rumor. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!! BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TEXAS!!!!!!!

What is the Single Greatest Sporting Event that Yo
EagleD replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
The game with the biggest implication was probably last years's Big XII championship football game in Houston. It wasn't much of a game as Texas destroyed Colorado, but we were in a luxury suite drinking free hooch and hob-nobbing with the likes of Kay Bailey Hutchison (I held my tongue) and watching the eventual national champs. The greatest awe I've experienced was walking down the tunnel of the '94 Texas/OU game just behind the teams. What a rush! Stoney Clark sealed a Texas victory on the goal line. I was lucky enough to watch from the field staring down the line of scrimmage. I've seen Juan Gonzales and Julio Franco hit walk off homers at the old ballpark. I got Red Sox right fielder Dwight Evans to flip me off in an almost empty stadium after a 2 hour rain delay. I've been to a few NCAA regional basketball tourneys. I was on the field for the last NT win in Lubbock. But the best time I've ever had at a game was the "Robbery in Austin" game in '88. I was new to NT football (I grew up on Longhorn sports), brought my Denton buddies with me, sat in the heart of the UT student body and raised a lot of hell. That was the defining point for my North Texas loyalty. I've been Mean Green ever since. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!! BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TEXAS!!!!!!!!!! -
I saw that Cobbs ran 8 times for 25 yards. But I was curious if he had any great flashes. Anyone watch? GO MEAN GREEN !!!!! BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TEXAS!!!!!!!! NE stats page

I haven't heard this much hatred since the last time is tuned into O'Reil.... Sorry, I'm supposed to keep politics off the board.
-
Hmmmmmmmmm. Just kidding.

SMU (Home and Home) TCU (Home and Home) In my estimation this needs to be DONE! The DFW bowl helps all of us. TTech alternating with Houston, Rice, or other regional team. Texas alternating with OU. Sad as it is, money games have to be done. TX State or other Southland member. The closest thing we can get to buying a win.
-
This would be my suggestion as well. Of course, your talking a bit more money but since your impulse buying... BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TEXAS!!!!!!!!!! GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!

Shouldn't it be color coded from green to red, as per Homeland Security? I'd be at warning level "Tie Dye".
-
You'll only get shot if you are in an OU dorm.
-
We thought, "If Scott Hall goes down, we're screwed." Hall went down, Smith stepped up. We thought, "If Cobbs goes down, who's going to fill his shoes?" JT. That's who. If JT goes down, I don't think we're screwed. I just think it will force us to use the passing game. Since WR might be the deepest position on the team, I think we could absorb the loss. Now we just need someone to throw them the ball. (And convince DD to call pass plays). I'm not a big fan of Dickey's, but I certainly don't complain about him like I used to. He has shown an ability to adapt to adversity. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!! BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so far out of the loop. I didn't even realize he had become a Jet

How could I forget Kassel? He's the reason I cheer for the Titans. Just for clarification Pegram spells his first name "Erric". with to r's.
-
He played for Pittsburgh against the Cowboys in Dallas' last championship. Also we have a starting lineman for KC. Or did. I don't know the details.
-
Erric Pegram was a starting running back for a superbowl team.
-
I tuned in just after it happened. Lots of replays
-
Not having seen any spring ball (I'm just going off internet buzz) I'm going for Phillips with Wilson a close second. I want a true passer and that's what Phillips sounds like. If we truly have a great set of recievers I want the QB who can deliver the ball to them. This needs to be the year that Dickey actually opens up the offense. GO MEAN GREEN !!! BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TEXAS!!!!!

Touchy touchy Emmitt. I never questioned your Texas loyalty or claimed you were inferior. I just asked you to clarify yourself. You say Roy Williams took the pressure off him. But it is just as easy to say he took the pressure off Williams. Either way it's two superior talents helping each other out. And I can't believe you criticize him for playing behind big O lines. Don't forget the Big XII defesive lines are some of the toughest in the nation. He has to run against those. Breakaway speed. Benson is a bruiser not a slasher. He's a hell of a bruiser at that. Coming out of high school he could have gone to any college in the nation. I don't think all those coaches were wrong about his talent. The same is true for Chris Simms (and if you want to call him overrated, I don't have any problem with that.) Winning the big game. Let's take a closer look at this. Here's his record at UT: 2001 Coach: Mack Brown Season: 11-2-0 Big 12: 7-1-0 (T-1st, South Champion) Final Ranking: 5th AP; 5th USA Today/ESPN Sept. 1 (#5) New Mexico State W 41-7 Sept. 8 (#4) North Carolina W 44-14 Sept. 22 (#5) @ Houston W 53-26 Sept. 29 (#5) Texas Tech W 42-7 Oct. 6 (#5) vs. #3 Oklahoma L 3-14 Oct. 13 (#11) @ Oklahoma State W 45-17 Oct. 20 (#9) #14 Colorado W 41-7 Oct. 27 (#7) @ Missouri W 35-16 Nov. 3 (#5) @ Baylor W 49-10 Nov. 10 (#5) Kansas W 59-0 Nov. 23 (#5) @ Texas A&M W 21-7 Dec. 1 (#3) #9 Colorado L 37-39* Dec. 28 (#9) vs. #21 Washington W 47-43# * - Big 12 Championship # - Holiday Bowl 2002 Coach: Mack Brown Season: 11-2-0 Big 12: 6-2-0 (T-1st, South) Final Ranking: 6th AP; 7th USA Today/ESPN Aug. 31 (#3) North Texas W 27-0 Sept. 14 (#3) @ North Carolina W 52-21 Sept. 21 (#3) Houston W 41-11 Sept. 28 (#3) @ Tulane W 49-0 Oct. 5 (#2) Oklahoma State W 17-15 Oct. 12 (#3) vs. #2 Oklahoma L 24-35 Oct. 19 (#8) @ #17 Kansas State W 17-14 Oct. 26 (#7) #17 Iowa State W 21-10 Nov. 2 (#7) @ Nebraska W 27-24 Nov. 9 (#4) Baylor W 41-0 Nov. 16 (#4) @ Texas Tech L 38-42 Nov. 29 (#10) Texas A&M W 50-20 Jan. 1 (#9) vs. LSU W 35-20# # - Cotton Bowl 2003 Coach: Mack Brown Season: 10-3-0 Big 12: 7-1-0 Final Ranking: 12th AP; 11th USA Today/ESPN Aug. 31 (#5) New Mexico State W 66-7 Sept. 13 (#6) Arkansas L 28-38 Sept. 20 (#13) @ Rice W 48-7 Sept. 27 (#13) Tulane W 63-18 Oct. 4 (#13) #16 Kansas State W 24-20 Oct. 11 (#11) vs. #1 Oklahoma L 13-65 Oct. 18 (#20) @ Iowa State W 40-19 Oct. 25 (#19) @ Baylor W 56-0 Nov. 1 (#16) #12 Nebraska W 31-7 Nov. 8 (#11) @ #21 Oklahoma State W 55-16 Nov. 15 (#6) Texas Tech W 43-40 Nov. 28 (#6) @ Texas A&M W 46-15 Dec. 30 (#5) vs. #15 Washington St. L 20-28# # - Holiday Bowl 2004 Coach: Mack Brown Season: 11-1-0 Big 12: 7-1 Final Ranking: 5th AP; 4th USA Today/ESPN Sept. 4 (#7) North Texas W 65-0 Sept. 11 (#7) @ Arkansas W 22-20 Sept. 25 (#5) Rice W 35-13 Oct. 2 (#5) Baylor W 44-14 Oct. 9 (#5) vs. #2 Oklahoma L 0-12 Oct. 16 (#9) #24 Missouri W 28-20 Oct. 13 (#8) @ #24 Texas Tech W 51-21 Oct. 30 (#8) @ Colorado W 31-7 Nov. 6 (#6) #19 Oklahoma State W 56-35 Nov. 13 (#6) @ Kansas W 27-23 Nov. 26 (#5) #22 Texas A&M W 26-13 Jan. 1 (#6) vs. #12 Michigan W 38-37# # - Rose Bowl He didn't play against OU his freshman year (a fact I'm sure Mack Brown regrets) 0-3. BTW those OU teams were some of the best teams money could buy. Texas beat A&M every year. 4-0. You have to call those big games. They beat Nebraska twice. Back when they were good. They won 3 of 4 bowl games 3-1. The reverse record of our own beloved Mean Green. That's a total of 9-4 in big games. Even if you count the OU game he didn't play in he has a winning record of 9-5. Here's the jist of my argument. I understand having a dislike for certain players, hell I don't like Michael Jordan, but he's clearly one of the all time greats. But if you are going to throw around terms like "overrated" be prepared to back them up. Clearly Benson hasn't proven himself on the Pro level yet but he's shown he's a valued commodity wherever he's played thusfar. GO MEAN GREEN BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TEXAS!!

Forget the personal attack. How is Benson overrated? I'm curious. He's carried every program he's been in. How is he overrrated? GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!! BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TEXAS!!!!!

I want to see how banged up we are after two a days, but early on it looks like offensively (minus TE) we will be O.K. Defense is a big ?. Is it possible that our games turn into a "Whoever scores last wins" scenario, ala TTech? I suggest looking back at the breakdown of the team on previous threads by the admin of this board. It seemed pretty concise and very helpful. On that note, Thank you Harry, Illuvious and the rest of the gang for the free reports. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!! BEAT THE HELL OUT OF TEXAS!!!!!!!!!

X-Rays negative Benson has been a workhorse in high school and college. Too bad about his injury. What is it with RB's getting injured in Chicago? Didn't Rashon Sallom break his leg and end his career early in his first season there? Emmitt, why exactly is Benson overrated?

We (KTBC-TV) have been running specials on it all week long. We've interviewed a lot of people. My mom was 8 months pregnant with me in Austin when this went down. Truly a sad day. They just reopened the tower observation deck a couple of years ago. It's interesting how times have changed. They call him a sniper, if it happened today he'd be called a terrorist. Either label is correct in my book GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!
