  1. Will Sneed consider NT? I hadn' thought of that, but with Dodge's pass happy offense, it could be a consideration.
  2. I'd be happy if we beat every D1A school in Texas. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Here's the link: Star Telegram Dodge in line to get UNT job By TROY PHILLIPS Star-Telegram Staff Writer Carroll coach Todd Dodge will reportedly be named head coach at North Texas, where he was an assistant in 1992-93. STAR-TELEGRAM/SHARON M. STEINMAN Carroll coach Todd Dodge will reportedly be named head coach at North Texas, where he was an assistant in 1992-93. The search for a new North Texas head football coach is expected to end in the next 48 hours. All signs point in the direction of Carroll High School coach Todd Dodge as being UNT's choice to replace Darrell Dickey, who was fired on Nov. 8. Sources close to UNT's search, while not confirming Dodge will be hired, said an announcement concerning the head coaching job is expected as early as this afternoon. UNT could call a news conference late this afternoon or Wednesday morning. Also today during a scheduled 2 p.m. meeting, the UNT Board of Regents will vote to authorize athletic director Rick Villarreal and school president Gretchen M. Bataille to enter into a contract with a new football coach. Asked over the weekend what that vote is about, Villarreal said, "The board only approves the parameters of a contract and not a specific coach." Villarreal, who did not return calls or e-mails on Monday, has yet to deny he has interviewed or even spoken to Dodge, but sources say a meeting or meetings have occurred. Dodge denied any knowledge of a news conference this week to announce his hiring at UNT. Carroll (14-0) is scheduled to face Allen in the Class 5A Division I state semifinals on Saturday. Since moving up from Class 4A to 5A in 2002, Carroll is 77-1 and has won a state title three of the past four seasons. "I'm not sure," Dodge said Monday, when asked why all speculation leads to him. "I'm just trying to get this team ready. I don't know anything about a press conference." Asked if he was "unequivocally denying" that he would be UNT's next coach, Dodge didn't answer the question. "I can't comment on this," he said. Asked if Dodge is leaving, Carroll athletic director Ronnie Tipps declined to comment. Dodge, a former quarterback at Texas, was a UNT assistant coach in 1992-93 and has also been a head coach at Cameron Yoe, Carrollton Smith and Fossil Ridge. He appears to have been UNT's frontrunner for some time, despite reports Villarreal showed strong interest in University of San Diego coach Jim Harbaugh and South Carolina defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix. Harbaugh reportedly interviewed at UNT last week, and Nix withdrew from consideration several days earlier. Sources also say Villarreal interviewed Nebraska offensive coordinator Jay Norvell. It's not known whether Dodge has notified Carroll officials of his intent to resign after the football season. He will also coach one team at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, a national high school all-star game, on Jan. 6. Starting Dec. 18, the weeks leading up to that game are dead (no-contact) weeks for college recruiting. The dead period runs again until Jan. 11, and because so few recruiting days remain until the process picks up again on Jan. 12, sources said UNT felt like it had to make a move now. Staff writer Trae Thompson contributed to this story. IN THE KNOW Todd Dodge résumé YEAR-BY-YEAR RECORD A look at Todd Dodge's career at Carroll, where he is 96-11: Season Rec. 4. I don't have access to the Startlegram, but it's evidently on the front of the sports page. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!
  5. Grossly exagerated. $176 million for complete overhaul "Several phases of the $176 million project have been underway, and some have been completed, including the rerouting of all area utilities; the renovated Carpenter-Winkel Centennial Room (9th floor of Bellmont Hall); a refurbished press box and media center (8th floor of Bellmont Hall); the upgrading of all stadium audio and video systems; the addition of a Daktronics Prostar video screen (at the time of installation the world's largest high definition scoreboard); and the relocation of 16 majestic old oak trees to other locations near the stadium."
  6. Rick, I believe Trilli's teams had close to that talent level, but Trilli couldn't coach swimming to a dolphin. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!
  7. It's a little more than just rebuilding the endzone. The $176 pricetag covers the renovation of the entire facility. UTexas "Several phases of the $176 million project have been underway, and some have been completed, including the rerouting of all area utilities; the renovated Carpenter-Winkel Centennial Room (9th floor of Bellmont Hall); a refurbished press box and media center (8th floor of Bellmont Hall); the upgrading of all stadium audio and video systems; the addition of a Daktronics Prostar video screen (at the time of installation the world's largest high definition scoreboard); and the relocation of 16 majestic old oak trees to other locations near the stadium." This is going to be awesome when completed. As for tax dollars, I don't know how much is used, but I don't think it's much. The UT football program generates a LOT of money. And I wouldn't be so quick to judge. Aren't we trying to get money from TxDot?
  8. Here's my personal list: 10. Cal 9. Texas 8. OU 7. Houston 6. The GoMeanGreen All Star flag football team. 5. Colorado 4. Penn State 3. TCU 2. SMU 1. TTech
  9. Literally? They literally stormed onto the field. No wonder we won, we could change into weather formations. Sorry. Pet peeve. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. If Leach goes to Miami from TTech, Dodge would be a perfect fit in Lubbock with the system that is already there. That is a little concerning. The only thing in our back pocket is that he can keep his current residence.
  11. We have to beat an occasional OOC opponent. We have to play and beat SMU, TCU, Regional 1A opponents, etc. We can't just play them, we have to beat them. We have to earn some respect b/c it's not going to be given to us. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!
  12. A collegue told me Todd Dodge is married to the daughter of DeLoss Dodds (UT Ath Dir.). That is just rumor. I don't know how fact find that. But if that's true, I wonder how that could play to our benefit...
  13. Norman, OK or Miami, FL? I'd take Miami. Plus I think Stoops is from Florida. He's at least familiar with recruiting there.
  14. There's a rumor that Miami is talking to TTech's Mike Leach. I still think Bob Stoops will go to Miami.
  15. Statesman Wherever he goes he has to sit out a year, unless its 1AA, and that 'aint gonna happen. I don't think we'd have a shot at him, but our new coach (no matter who it is) needs to try like hell and recruit him. This kid can play.
  16. If that ball could talk, oh the draw play stories it could tell. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!
  17. I give conditional support. Unless it's DeLoach, then I give some time.
  18. I answered 1. But could have been 4. I'm going out of town, but will be sitting on their couch listening/chatting. Anyone up for a chat Sat night?
  19. An earlier quote said that he needed to find a way to feed his family now. If that's the case, buying black uni's for a football team should not be very high on his list of priorities. Darrell needs to realize that whatever fan base he's trying to alienate will come back when our new coach starts winning. He could take the high road like RV, but it's just not his way. Hey coach, "Your money's on the dresser. I'm through with you." - Phil Hartman. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Filed for what?
  21. Back to the original topic. If you want the advice of an Austin radio host, that person should be Craig Way. He's a Mean Green alum, and pretty well respected around the state for his knowledge of high school and college sports. He's the voice of UT and is good friends with our own George Dunham. I've heard him say he didn't agree with the firing of DD, but I've never heard him comment on Dodge.(Edit) As I wrote this I turned on his show, only to hear him say Glanville is a candidate, but Dodge is the odds on favorite. GO MEAN GREEN
  22. I hope Villareal has a conversation with Mac soon. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!
  23. I lived in Amarillo for 4 years ('94-'98). It's 30 minutes from Canyon, TX (I drive slow). I love college football. I never went to a game. Now I wish I did.
  24. Here's the link And now my defense of Dickey ends. He makes the comment that now his concern is feeding his wife and family. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!!!!! I know he's upset about losing his job, but his contract was bought out. He's got money coming and he should have some money stashed away. Of course, if he manages his money like he does the game clock... In the words of Phil Hartman portraying Frank Sinatra, "I'm done with you. Your money's on the dresser." GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!
  25. I just spit kool aid out my nose.
