How did I get left off this list? I have taken an honest effort to curb my political rants. I guess it's working. -
Documentary Question
EagleD replied to GoMeanGreen1999's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Another great filmmaking documentary is "Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmakers Apocalypse". It's the story of the making of "Apocalypse Now". It was shot by Coppola's wife, I believe. -
Documentary Question
EagleD replied to GoMeanGreen1999's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I really like Looking for Richard. It is a documentary on Richard III, but done in a very peculiar yet fascinating way. Al Pacino, Kevin Spacey, Alec Baldwin, etc. It is a wonderful movie. -
Last I heard, yes. I took both semesters of B'cast Sports and really enjoyed it. I see Craig Way (voice of the 'Horns and Bill Mercer disciple) every few months and I always ask about Bill b/c they stay in close contact. He's doing well. I read Bill's book a few months back. It's worth the read if only for his NT and Wrasslin stories. It's called "Play by Play". He's a pretty good teacher.

Justice Has Been Served

In 2005 in America there were 31,000 deaths due to firearms. I think we all know how Americans feel about their guns. link In England in 2005, where no one is allowed to have guns, not even the cops. There were 185 deaths due to firearms. link Lets look at those numbers again because they seem quite baffling at first. 31,000 deaths in America compared to 185 deaths in England. *But, there's no connection to having a gun and shooting someone with it, and not having a gun and not shooting someone. And you'd be a fool and a communist to make such an argument. Those 185 were probably American tourists. *material lifted from Bill Hicks. -

Good videos. Not really noted is that everyone will lie under oath. EVERYONE! All it takes is the right set of circumstances. Interestingly enough this was part of George Carlin's routine when I saw him 2 weeks ago. I'd like to say I'd never talk to a cop, but I'm sure I would. Good stuff. Thanks Rick.

Bush's Resignation Speech
EagleD replied to DeepGreen's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I could be wrong here, but I believe the person responsible for the 9/11 attacks is still out roaming free. But I'm sure it has nothing to do with the close relationship between the Bush family and the binLaden's. Also, the Taliban is on the rise again in Afghanistan, helped I'm sure by the escape of 200-300 prisoners thought to be Taliban members. Yeah, Bush is doing a hell of a job. -
I really think we will need corporate sponsorship to fund a new stadium. I have no idea who we would target as a potential investor, or how much we would charge for naming rights. Any ideas?

He was nominated for an Oscar in "Dreamgirls". Norbit sucked, but it too was nominated for an Oscar (for makeup I believe). -
Who Makes You Laugh
EagleD replied to EagleD's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Just last week a director was berating the crew at work. One of the guys turned to me and said, "Tell Clarke to have a Coke and a smile and shut the f#$@ up." I'd forgotten just how funny Eddie was in his prime. A true comedic genius. -
With the death of George Carlin, I'm curious what comedians make you laugh. We may need to split this up into live and dead. On the dead side, the conversation begins and ends with Bill Hicks. Carlin is up there of course, as is Lenny Bruce. I also liked Mitch Hedberg. On the live side, Chris Rock, Joe Rogan, Patton Oswald, and Doug Stanhope. I like my humor with a bite to it. I could go on and on, but would like to know who some of your favorites are. I love standup comedy and am impressed with anyone who can do it well. I certainly can't. I tried once and only once. It was enough. I leave you with this Bill Hicks opening line, "Good evening. Thank you for coming out. I'm very tired...very tired of doing comedy. I'm very tired of looking out at your vacant faces staring back at me wanting me to fill your lives with humor you couldn't possibly think of yourself. I always love it when I'm here, wherever I am, and can't wait to get back."

George Carlin Dies
EagleD replied to EagleD's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Yeah, I'd say he was right on. He had a bit he was working on about how popular music today is unoriginal. He needed crib notes for that bit, but other than that it seemed as though he was just riffing. I've seen enough stand up to know he had it pretty much rehearsed, but it came off well. He apologized for the crib notes, but after all he was in his seventies. Even at that age he didn't seem feeble. As I stated earlier it seemed I was his target audience. I can't repeat much of his act. Most of it had to do with thinking for yourself. Oddly enough he had a long bit on the after life, or the absence thereof. This morning NPR ran an interview with him from a few years back and asked what he'd like people to say about him after he dies. He said, "Oh, George Carlin. I just saw him yesterday." Strangely, for me, that is true. Next to Bill Hicks, and Chris Rock, he may be the biggest comedic influence on my life. George, we hardly knew ya. You will be missed.
