  1. Here's the bill. Another blog.
  2. I'm looking for official confirmation. The only thing I have found is a DMN blog. Just waiting on Perry to sign it into law.
  3. Uh oh. You posted something form Huffingtonpost. It must have a liberal slant. It can't possibly be true.
  4. We just had a roof put on the house. We chose a white shingle simply b/c it would save some on energy bills. We already had a white roof, so not much of a change. Hours after the roofers were done a storm came up and hail was in the area. Fortunately it didn't hit us. What are the odds? New roof and immediately afterwards a hail storm.
  5. After reading the book "Uranium", I'm much more concerned about Pakistan than I am N. Korea.
  6. I just finished reading the book "Uranium". It's about, what else, uranium. How it went from a waste mineral, to extremely sought after, booms, busts, etc. It was pretty good. I'm not much into fiction, however I did read the da Vinci code, and some various sci-fi that I enjoyed. I've been told to read "Angels and Demons". I prefer biographies and books on science. I really enjoy biographies about scientists (I'm part nerd). With all that in mind does anyone have suggestions for summer reading? I may find some time on my hands.
  7. I'm no fan of Perry either, but we are at opposite ends of the political spectrum. I hear a lot of republicans dislike Perry and I don't understand why. Without this thread getting derailed as all Perry-bashing, can you give me a reason why he is disliked so much?
  8. Romney catered to the left? OK. He is a viable candidate, though. And by viable, I mean he has an assload of cash! I think Palin will make a run, but I'm really not sure she has enough support. I'm surprised Steele became head of the RNC, and more surprised he's not been thrown out. If he runs he will not get the nod. I know he's kind of a throw back, but I look for Newt Gingrich to emerge as a front runner. Other than that, Jindle seems to be the new face of the right wing. All that being said let me throw this name out there. Rick Perry. If he can win reelection (and that seems to be a long shot against Kay Bailey), he will definitely have bigger aspirations. Remember when early on in the race he endorsed Giuliani? I believe he saw that as a road to the Vice Presidency. I see him more and more in national news. Wow, did I just mention 7 conservatives and not verbally beat them up?
  9. NO. NO. NO. The government does. There is no relationship between marriage and religion. If there was, you'd go to a minister to get a divorce. You don't go to a preacher for a marriage license. You go to the county clerk. We've had this thread before.
  10. Is that really a fact? I seem to recall a recent protest involving teabags that had some serious intolerant messages on placards. Messages that had nothing to do with taxes, I might add. I have seen a lot of tv reports on this STUPID F&*@ING STORY. Not once have I seen anyone criticize her right to her beliefs. I've seen a lot of disagreement with her argument, but isn't that just another person's right to speak their mind? Or is it only ok to speak your mind when it is in agreement with you? Jon Stewart said it best about her speech after "The Donald" let her keep her crown, er sash, "I completely agree with the woman I disagree with."
  11. Bill Hicks on evolution "Why aren't dinosaurs mentioned in the bible?" "A lot of Christians wear crosses around their necks. You think when jesus comes back he ever wants to see another cross?"
  12. Not a derail at all. You've rephrased the question in a way I never could have. As a young voter I followed the Rational Actor model. The older I get, the more I follow the Delegate model. I guess that's why I'm more likely to look at third parties now.
  13. Which system do you prefer? A politician runs for office with a platform he/she wants their constituents to follow. vs. A politician runs for office to represent the will of those constituents. I had this conversation in MANY Poli/Sci classes at NT. To be honest I'm not sure. I want a representative with the courage of his convictions, but I also want a rep who will do as his district wants. I thought about this a lot during Spector's decision.
  14. Nothing. Which is why it's not on the football forum. Edit. Sorry. I just now saw this started in that forum. You are right. It is not related, unless we are going to play football there.
  15. I saw Jack Kemp speak at NT. He was one of many political speakers I saw as a student, from both the republic party and the democratic party.
  16. I'm more curious to find out what the "level headed" right wingers think of our current health care system. Nixon signed it into law even after this conversation! Right now a doctor doesn't decide if I get the necessary surgery I need. Some clown in a cubicle in Omaha, Nebraska (or some other random city) whom I've never met nor knows anything about me makes that call. I understand your fears. I'm not 100% sold on it either, but it has to be better than what we have now. We are the only industrialized nation w/o universal health care. Why? B/C money rules. Big pharma (just like the NRA) is in the pockets of our politicians, left and right. It's why I wouldn't vote for Hillary, more specifically why I look at 3rd party candidates. HMO's are about making money, not looking out for your best interest. At least with government control you have a voice, but with corporation control is all about the board room. If you're poor, or really just unemployed, you're screwed. A coworker of mine is about to be laid off. He's been with the company 23 years. He's 7 years away from early retirement. He's done all the right things, saved, invested, etc. The loss of income doesn't scare him, but the loss of health insurance is petrifying! All it takes is trouble with his ticker and his savings is wiped out! Why is that? If universal health care is not the answer, then what is? Our current system DOES NOT WORK! Time and time again I've been told by people on the right to talk to Canadians about their system and how flawed it is. I have. My employer used to do quite a bit of business with a Canadian company. While they admit some problems, they said they would much rather have their system, every last one of them! If the right wingers are so sure that Obama's plans are going to fail, and more people will be unemployed, then those people will most likely be uninsured as well. That just leaves people dying in the streets. At the very least, insure children. Let me say this again with emphasis, at the very least, insure children. If you don't want to pay for some meth head's ingrown toenail surgery, I understand that logic. But a child born into poverty shouldn't have to suffer just b/c his parents are poor. So again I ask you, are you happy with the current system? And if not what are your solutions?
  17. Well, If there's one thing America does better than anyone else, it's imprison people.
  18. It used to be a dream of mine to move back to Denton and commute to Dallas or FW. I think that dream is gone. Maybe now I can retire in Denton. I've already got the house picked out.
  19. I saw this a few weeks ago. Very funny.
  20. Out of curiosity, have you ever looked into the Libertarian party? It really seems more in line with your rhetoric. Much like me and the Greens.
