Just five? Man this is going to be tough. I'm a sitcom junkie. 1. The Andy Griffith show. 2. Newsradio (I'd also accept WKRP) 3. Seinfeld 4. The Daily Show 5. MASH I've based my list on shows I've seen every episode. It was REALLY hard to leave SNL off this list. Ask me again tomorrow and I'd probably rank it #1.

Greatest Movie Line Ever
EagleD replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Greenbat's comment was quite clever. If it had been pointed at someone on the left you'd be rolling over in hysterics. BTW, I like the movie quote. It's quite witty. -

In that case: SHUKE-D, I WILL DESTROY YOU!!!!!! SUNDAY ! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! Two poster enters. One poster leaves! Personally, I hope it's the Farrah Fawcett poster from the 70's. -
I don't know if it's god's country, but the most relaxing vacation spot I've ever spent was a week in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Fishing and hiking followed by more fishing and hiking. When I hear "God's Country" I always think of Montana. I don't know why, and I've never been there, but it sounds wonderful.

Who Is Better
EagleD replied to eeally's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Limbaugh, Hannity or Beck? Isn't that like deciding between syphilis, gonorreah, or herpes? It's kind of fun when you are getting it, but ultimately, you don't really want any of them. -
Legalize Marijuana ?
EagleD replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
One of the main issues of pot being illegal is how inconsistent the laws are state to state, or even city to city. Here in Austin you can pretty much blaze up on the Capitol grounds, but head up I-35 north 30 miles to Williamson county and there is no leniency. Maybe things have changed since the mid-90's, but a friend of mine got pulled over in West Texas for not wearing a seat belt. When the cop asked him if he had any drugs in the car, he dug around the back seat of his pick up and found a gram of weed (not even enough for a joint) and gave it to the officer. The cop hauled his ass in. It's funny, he told me, "I've seen enough episodes of 'COPS' to know that if you are cool with them, they're usually cool with you. I guess I got pulled over in the wrong county." That tiny amount of weed cost him a ton of money in legal fees and a night in jail. There is a very good book on this subject, called "Reefer Madness" by one of my favorite journalists, Eric Schlosser, author of "Fast Food Nation". The book covers a few other areas, but 1/3 of it is about marijuana. Another good book that covers the history of marijuana is, "Botany of Desire", by Michael Pollan. Marijuana is only a small part of the book, but a good read nonetheless. -
Legalize Marijuana ?
EagleD replied to NT03's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
"George Bush (the elder) says we are losing the war on drugs. Do you know what that implies? There's a war going on and people on drugs are winning it. 'Did you hear there's a war going on? (Passes a joint)'. "If you don't think drugs have done good things, go home take all your records and throw them away. Because the people who made that music that influenced your life so much...were REALLY HIGH on drugs. Dude, the Beatles were so high they let Ringo sing a couple of tunes. 'We all live in a yellow submarine'? Do you realize how high they were when they wrote that?" "So what if you get into a car wreck and you've been smoking pot? You're only going 4 miles an hour. - 'Dude. I think we hit something.' - 'You forgot to open the garage door, man.' " - Bill Hicks I love his legalize pot rants. -
I love the "Is golf a sport?" threads. Athletes can play golf, but it's not necessary to be an athlete to play golf. I forget his name, but didn't a dude win a major championship last year while smoking cigarettes between holes? Mmmmmm, nothing says, "finely tuned athlete" like a cigarette. Then again Charlie Huff chain smoked b/w innings. But knuckle ballers aren't athletes either. Golf is a skill, not a sport. It probably helps to be physically fit (as it does in every day life) but it's not necessary. Just look at John Daley.

Dunham Out
EagleD replied to Quoner's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Ahhhhhhhh. I knew I had listened to the Cowboys on the radio a couple of times last year and didn't remember hearing him. Maybe he'll hire Mercer. -
Dunham Out
EagleD replied to Quoner's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I'm so very confused. I'm not in the Dallas market and rarely listen to the Cowboys on the radio, but if I read this thread correctly, George Dunham was the voice of the Cowboys?!! I thought it was Hank Stram or Dale Hanson. Man, I'm out of the radio loop. I'm no real fan of Dunham, but he's certainly been a big cheerleader for NT athletics, and that carries some weight with me. -
Palin Quits
EagleD replied to Buford_Julep's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I somewhat agree (minus the name-calling). But she WAS the VP nominee for a major political party less than a year ago, so it's still news. I still haven't heard a real reason she stepped down. -
Palin Quits

Not to derail the "people like to have sex" thread, but what was the reasoning for Palin quitting? I've been stuck at a ballpark all day. -
I ran into Bill Mercer, the true voice of the Mean Green, Thursday at the Round Rock Express minor league baseball game. He fills in on play by play for the radio broadcast a few times a year. I freelance as a Technical Director for various TV sports gigs, and was really dreading working this game. It had been a very long week, and the production truck was brand new and not quite ready to go. As a TD, this just causes a ton of headaches. Anyway, during pre-production I got a short break and ran up to the press box. I thought I recognized him working on a stat sheet, but it's been a few years and I wasn't sure it was him. Then I heard his voice and recognized him immediately. He's such a class act. He even pretended to remember me from his classes, and was genuinely glad to hear I was involved in sports broadcasting. "So you're in the business", he put it. Thankfully, not behind a mic or in front of a camera. We talked for a short time. He seems to be doing well. If you haven't read, "Play by Play", it's a decent read, (he really could have used a ghost writer, though.) But there are a lot of great stories in there, many of them about NT. You might also come away with a different view of George Dunham. After that, I had a great game, technical troubles and all. I hope to see him again with more time to chat. I wonder if anyone else here took his "Sports Broadcasting" classes, or if that class is still offered now that he's retired from teaching. It produced a great many people in the business. Governer's Race
EagleD replied to EagleD's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I'm pretty sure money from lottery sales goes into the general fund. Politicians from both sides of the aisle did not want it to fund education b/c that revenue stream is uncertain. -

I Have A Theory
EagleD replied to Quoner's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I have a theory too. E=mc2 It's just a theory, though. I'm working out the final details before I publish. It's gonna revolutionize physics. Wait, what? -
Governer's Race
EagleD replied to EagleD's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Not that I'm aware of. I'm just citing him as an example of a conservative I don't agree with, but respect his thinking process. -
According to wikipedia there are quite a few candidates and some yet to come. Odds are it comes down to Kay Bailey and Rick Perry in the republican race. I don't think any Dem has enough star power to win and if Kinky runs as an independent, he'll just split the left vote. Personally, I'd like Chris Bell to run again, but he won't. Next to that, it's Ronnie Earl on the left. In the primary I'm likely to vote for Kay Bailey. I don't agree with her on many issues, but much like Ron Paul, I respect the decision making. Rick Perry on the other hand...pppfffft. Anybody interested?
