It's pretty obvious....a lot of our fans are in the Portal. I know so many hard cores who no longer come to games. The portal/NIL was the final straw for many. And this is my 50th year as a fan....I plan on making it my last......as an "in person" fan.

I just looked up McNeese's roster. They went so hard into the Portal/NIL.......that their whole roster is nothing but seniors and juniors (one freshman)..... And they went 18-0 at home last year. https://mcneesesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster

The McNeese State coach is Will Wade. Got fired at LSU for recruiting violations.....when that was still a thing. He went to McNeese....and a lot of big money LSU fans went with him. McNeese now has lots of NIL money...and that helped them win 30 games last season. So with Wade's reputation, and them being flush with cash.....I won't be shocked if they buy out the return game.

Any idea what Memphis' closest conference game would be???

Here's why us going down there first.....really disappoints me. (as a season ticket holder) So far our home OOC schedule sucks. Partly because of some of the teams....and partly because of dates for games. We right now have two decent (not great) home OOC games....Evansville and Oregon State. Evansville is scheduled for November 5. (Election Night). Oregon State is scheduled for Nov. 25 (the Monday of Thanksgiving Week....when students will be gone). The other two home OOC games (so far) are Dec. 18 and Dec. 22 (Christmas break for students?---I know the 22nd will be). Also...the 22nd is a NFL Sunday. If that game is at night....the Cowboys (who might be way out of it by then) play Tampa Bay on Sunday Night Football. Anyway.....those two games are against Houston Christian and Miss. Valley State. I relish being there....but I also relish being there with as big a crowd, as possible. So far this home OOC schedule leaves a lot to be desired. And what I fully expect....when they finish it up...........we will have some games on better dates (when students are around and not on Election Night)......but those games will be against Div. II or NAIA schools. I hope I'm wrong on this. But as this schedule now sits.....it stinks. And for some odd reason....the Evansville game was moved from Nov. 16 (a Saturday) to Election Night. Makes no sense.....from our standpoint. I can see Evansville wanting it then.

Don't discount the not wanting to be the only team in the Central Time Zone....playing teams in Mountain and Pacific time zones.
-
According to Brett.....they come here in '25-'26.....

Geez. So we're now going to McNeese for a game? And they're very good. But have a hard time believing....we couldn't get them to Denton for a game.
-
Yes....they start play in 2025.

I think the TV money that some of these leagues are offering....is about as legit as the $100k that the UNLV (ex) QB claims he was offered.

DATCU's capacity was reduced to 30,100 when the chairbacks were put in. And as to a "natural" sellout.....I mean with individuals buying the tickets in groups of 2, 4, 10 or whatever. The game the other day........tickets were sold in huge blocks to Peterbilt and DATCU. And then they either redistributed them to employees. Or in DATCU's case.....sold them with some of the profit going to area schools.

I really don't see Toledo and NIU leaving the MAC....for a bunch of games in the Mountain and Pacific and Hawaii time zones. But......they might be tired of Tuesday-Wednesday night football games every November.

Lose to East Carolina 3-0 -
It's funny how climate change is of no concern, when it comes to far flung college sports conferences. Y'day and Friday......these were conference football games: Stanford at Clemson; Washington at Rutgers.
-
If we ever have a sellout....it will happen naturally (like it almost did against La Tech in '18). Our crowd that day was 30,105.....which is more than our current capacity.....but wasn't a sellout back then. As to the crowd on 11/9.......if Army is undefeated and ranked....I predict they bring the biggest visiting crowd in Apogee/DATCU history.

Is this the best team UNT has ever had?
SUMG replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
We had some much better teams during the Paleolithic Era. I won't bore you youngsters with the deets. -
Probably been noted elsewhere.....but Wyoming beat Air Force 31-19. And....Army is 4-0...... Their next four games before they come to Denton on 11/9: At Tulsa UAB at home. East Carolina at home. Air Force at home. Hoping like crazy....that Army is 8-0 and ranked when they come to Denton......

***OFFICIAL TULSA vs UNT IN-GAME DISCUSSION***
SUMG replied to Mean Green Newz's topic in Mean Green Football
Our O line getting manhandled badly. You can make adjustments in a game....scheme wise. But when you're getting whipped......that usually continues all game. And because of the lousy pass blocking.....Chandler is having to rush throws. Horrible start. -
Corey Caulker out of Eastern Florida State College has received interest from the following programs: North Texas, Wichita State, Arkansas-Little Rock, Bowling Green, Wyoming, Liberty, Robert Morris, Oral Roberts, Longwood

I'm pretty sure.....the ONLY scheduling that the Ath. Director does.....is football. In all the other sports........the respective coaches, do it. Last year, we were the very last team in Div. I to finalize our schedule. What the Ath. Director could do.....is demand that we make the home OOC games....more of a priority. But, don't hold your breath on that.
