Actually....many more than I was originally told (130).....as there were 176 there. Sounds like a great success. I may be wrong on this....but I could have sworn that Dodge had Junior Days---this says it was our first. Anyway: http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=1800&ATCLID=205105917

I had heard they were expecting about 130 juniors on campus Saturday. A decent number of them were at the b-ball game Saturday night.
-
According the D-RC today...his 6th year was denied. It was hard to tell last night.....as even though they honored him as a senior....he wasn't on the game scorecard (with the other seniors). But anyway, at least now we know...and can plan accordingly.

Can I just throw this in: How can anyone quantify the amount of national publicity that JJ has gotten the school (twice). When you get into the NCAA tourney, your school's name is in papers and on millions of NCAA brackets that people fill out. So how much is that worth? Lots. So all in all, I don't think you could say our program costs the school money. It probably makes the school money....but once again there's no way to quantify it. (I do know of students who've chosen NT because they saw us in a bowl game or in the NCAA tourney, for example).
-
I saw one of the coaches when I was on the deck today. He told me that today is Junior Day, and that a lot of high school juniors will be here. But really I guess "Junior Day" is just more of the recruiting for the 2012 class....since current juniors will be seniors at that point.

Good work, buddy. Since you're a moderator, we can't give you +1s....but know that you and others who compile the recruiting info....are much appreciated.

Nice work, Mr. Vito. These guys (and George and Shannon and Dom) will really be missed: http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/drc/sports/stories/DRC_untbasketball_0226.18e94afe2.html

(from The Green Gang on Facebook): One last tweak of the spring football schedule to note. The original practice times on Wednesdays was going to be at 6 a.m. because of a heavy class load in the afternoon. Well a heavy class load in the morning has adjusted that time to 7 p.m. So the first official practice in the spring starts on March 23 at 7 p.m. All other Wednesday practices in the spring, March 30, April 6, and April 13 have moved from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The dates and times for every spring practice and the spring game can be found here, but mark those changes down and for all of you night owls like myself, this should make you happier than 6 a.m., I know I am. These practices on Wednesdays will presumably be at Fouts Field. .

The current issue of The Sporting News (Feb. 28 issue) has their off-season assessment of every FBS team. Here's what they say about Mean Green football: "With new Coach Dan McCarney on board, bet on the Mean Green's defensive line to make major improvements in a hurry. Staff changes mean this program might have the best long-term forecast in the league."

Not a gripe...as I'm sure there's a good reason. But just curious as to why we would host the SBC Swimming and Diving Championship....and have it in Rockwall. Anyone know? http://www.sunbeltsports.org/ViewArticle.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=4100&ATCLID=205052966&KEY=&DB_OEM_ID=1800&DB_LANG=C&IN_SUBSCRIBER_CONTENT=

What The H$Ll Has Happened To This Team ?
SUMG replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Basketball
As to the team being tired.....because of the postponed UALR game....as of last Saturday---their last four games were: Feb. 3, Feb. 12, Feb. 17, and then finally Feb. 19. So they shouldn't be spent.....with that much time off from Feb. 3-19. Anyway, if they can't handle that stretch.....I don't see how they're going to win 4 games in 4 days in Hot Springs. -
I think USA's record is deceiving. That to me, is a much better team than their record. (maybe they were young at the start of the year). And their two best players are from Texas....a sophomore from Dallas, and a great freshman from Houston. (#32 and #21 respectively---as I recall). I could easily see USA beating a really good team in the tourney. Just my opinion.
-
Good work, Matty. And the schedule does favor us a bit....in that we have two easily winnable home games in a row....and if we win those, get some confidence back....I think the toughest remaining obstacle would be the game in J'boro. Because I think if we can get on a roll....we can beat Denver at home and UALR in LR. Go Mean Green!
-
You know that make-up game with UALR....the one originally scheduled to be made up Monday, Feb. 28? (the Monday before the tourney starts on Saturday March 5). Anyway...according to today's DMN....the game will instead be made up on Tuesday March 1....one day closer to the tourney. We had last night and next Monday...as two Mondays where the game could have been made up and gotten out of the way.....so we could concentrate on the tourney that week. Now, since we're probably not getting a bye....we'd have to play 5 games in 8 days. Pardon me if I think this is really, really stupid.
-
We knew all this....but it does let us know that the full schedule will be out in two weeks: http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=1800&ATCLID=205095726

If you say so, mi amigo. I appreciate your youthful enthusiasm. Go Mean Green!

It's not quite that simple Matt. Ark. State is 8-4 (4 conference games left); we're 5-6 (5 conference games left). You're right in that we're two games out in the loss column and we play ASU. But what makes it more difficult is that there are two other teams (ULL, UALR) ahead of us---between us and Ark. State). So even though we can take care of business and beat Ark. State and UALR.....somebody else has to beat Ark. State, and somebody else has to beat ULL. And at that point, we'd just be tied with ULL...and you'd get into a tiebreaker situation. Anyway, I think us getting a bye is a pipe dream now anyway. And furthermore, without the bye....there is no way this team can win playing 4 days in a row at Hot Springs. The season is pretty much over.
-
And you know his Dad played for us....Adrian Choplick (was on our first NCAA tourney team). But from what I've heard....Adam is an even better baseball player. And that he will probably be highly drafted in June...and that's where he'll probably go--pro baseball.
-
This will allow the chance to see more games at the end...instead of the finishes bunching together: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=6107744
-
Will be played on Monday February 28th (the Monday before the SBC tourney).
-
Well, sounds like a good guy who is just putting his family first. Still going to graduate. And even though I wish he was still going to be with us....to me, if there's one position where you can find quality walk-ons.....it's WR: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/archives/2011/02/the-story-on-bj-lewis-and-the.html
-
At least the prolific John Weber gets creative with his writing.....but points off for lack of originality. Calling it The Green Death Star, is just copying The Death Star nickname for Cowboys Stadium. Anyway here's Johnny's weekly (or it is daily?) effort. The fourth letter: http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/drc/opinion/letters/stories/DRC_Letters_0208.133956b5b.html
-
So we play a game on Saturday January 1.......and yet since then, we've had two Saturdays where we didn't play. Also, not once this year....do we make a trip that would make sense travel wise. You'd think when going to Louisiana and Arkansas....we'd play both the teams in those respective states, on the same trip. Nope.

Given the circumstances and all (late start, the years of Dodge to overcome)......I'd give this class a B. If we'd have been able to retain Hunt and Carr....a B+ or A-. But still, very good work by our staff.
