All I can say is...I'm sorry that they haven't responded to you. They SHOULD have. (Also I know that if I was Athletic Director......and I saw a post like this.....I WOULD DEMAND SOME ANSWERS.) But, that's me.

Mustangs vs Mean Green in New Orleans Bowl ?
SUMG replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
The New Orleans Bowl is held during a relatively slow tourism time of year for New Orleans.....the few weeks before Christmas. (and it's always on a Tuesday). Because of that, the city's hotels offer up great rates for New Orleans Bowl fans. I stayed at the Marriott one year and at the Wyndham (on the river) last year. I think both years I paid around $79 a night. So, don't worry about the rates if your Mustangs get in the NO Bowl, Southern Stang. It's very reasonable. But hey, aren't all you SMU grads rich anyway??????? GMG! -
Mustangs vs Mean Green in New Orleans Bowl ?

Good, I hope it happens. And if it does, on Bourbon Street, I'll play a little game called: Pee On Their Topsiders. -
(from CBS Sportsline): NEW YORK -- NBA owners and players agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement Tuesday, averting the possibility of a lockout. The league called a news conference in San Antonio before Game 6 of the NBA Finals, with commissioner David Stern and union director Billy Hunter announcing their agreement. The deal came on the fourth consecutive day of talks between the sides. The league's old seven-year agreement is due to expire on June 30. Details of the new six-year agreement were not immediately disclosed, but the sides had been trying to reach compromises on several key issues. Among them were the owners' desire to raise the minimum age for draft eligibility to 19, reduce the maximum length of long-term contracts from seven years to six, and reduce the size of annual salary increases in those long-term contracts. Among the main items the players were seeking was a reduction in the so-called escrow tax under which 10 percent of their salaries are withheld if the amount of revenues devoted to players salaries exceeds a specified percentage. Owners had already offered to raise the salary cap from slightly more than 48 percent of revenues to 51 percent, thereby increasing the amount of money each team can spend on player salaries. The NBA has a system known as a "soft" salary cap, allowing teams to exceed the cap threshold to retain their own free agents, and to sign free agents under the so-called midlevel exception that was added to the labor agreement in 1999 after the sides went through a 7½-month lockout. Another lockout could have begun July 1. The agreement will still need to be ratified by the league's Board of Governors and by the members of the players union at their annual meeting in Las Vegas next week.

They have us ranked 61st in the nation. MTSU is 65th (as I recall). Anyway....anyone who has been following us for a while, knows that 61st is pretty high for us in one of the pre-season mags. I can remember years, when every Belt team was ranked between 90-117. It's a good pre-season mag, but I wouldn't buy it. I think you can get whatever you want out of it, just by perusing it at your local bookstore.

No offense, but I don't get that. That makes about as much to me as someone saying, "I love the Rotary Club more than I love America." SUMG, who was proudly GDI

I think Gabe is our current ticket manager. That's why, even though this thread was started for humorous reasons....I did include response #4 , so that the current crew wouldn't think I was aiming my barbs at them. For I can say, that Gabe and Ryan have been excellent, in any dealings that I have had with either of them. They and Mandy, have given me great customer service. So, kudos to those three.

Some of you have mentioned him......but I forgot to.......Tony Worrell SHOULD have been on my original list. As for the Mean Green women's teams: Definitely on there would be: Jalie Mitchell Rosalyn Reades Ashley Norris Freda Deckerd Terri Gunnells Shannon Stevenson Clara Campbell Nicole Thomas

Was that kid's name.....Melvin Daniels? Was that it? Parker brought in a kid to challenge Mitch Maher, who he claimed was the 2nd coming of Doug Williams. Remember Benny Valentine???
-
I thought he stayed with us, for four years. But according to the Media Guide, he only earned letters in '78 and '79. I don't remember him transferring to SMU, but you may be right. As for his little brother....we had a Darrin Collins who played at NT in the mid-late 80s. Darrin, as I recall, was from Carthage (in Northeast Texas). Not sure if he and Milton were related or not.

He wasn't on the Oklahoma roster, which was in the DMN this morning. Is he playing??????

There's a report in today's DMN, that Matt Pinto may get the Lakers' radio play-by-play job. If that happens, and I hope it DOES.......I sure hope Cuban moves our alum, Mark Followill.........to the TV booth.

It was 1978........we signed the #1 running back in Texas, Milton Collins (from Blooming Grove). He was that year's Eric Dickerson or Adrian Peterson. He was the top running back in the state. If there had been National 100 lists (like Rivals) back then, Milton would have been on it. Back then, players could sign conference letters of intent in the SWC. (They signed those a week before National letters of intent were signed.) What those conference letters of intent did......once a player signed one of those, no one else in the conference could sign the kid. But, teams that weren't in the SWC, could sign a player to a National letter of intent, which overrode a conference letter. Milton had signed a SWC letter of intent with A $ M. Well, Hayden went in, and stole Milton from them. I'll never forget the coverage we got for that. Channel 4 (then CBS) showed Hayden arriving at the Collins' family house on signing date. As I recall, it had snowed that morning, so Hayden was shown there, wiping his feet off, as he entered the Collins' house. Unfortunately though, Milton was never the stud in college, that he was in high school. I guess, in his case, going from 1A or 2A (whatever Blooming Grove was) was too much of a jump up in talent. I don't think he ever ran for even 300 yards (or more) in any season. As a matter of fact, toward the end of his career, he was switched to D Line. And, as I recall.....he also did our kickoffs one season. One more thing about Milton. Bless his heart, he may have had a tough life......because he was the oldest looking 18 year old, I have ever seen, before or since. He looked at least 30. But for a while.......signing date and the months afterward....his signing gave us a lot to crow about. Too bad his UNT career wasn't a little better.

Explain this to me: "Massaro has signed a letter of understanding with the ACC and the Mid-American Conference to play either on Sept. 22 or Oct. 6 of 2007. " Why would the letter of understanding be between the ACC and the MAC?

Well....you must be talking about Josh Gulley in '95. Josh played well in that Bama game (we only lost 38-19; very respectable)....but he threw for 183 yards, not 500. The next week, however, he did throw for 422 yards against UNLV. Is that who you're thinking of?????
-
Sure....why not?

1. Ah hell, what was that guy's name? He was the ticket manager 3-4 managers ago. Nice kid. Helped me out when they screwed up my season tickets. 2. Ah heck, that lady that was ticket manager back for about 6 months back in '82. Can't remember her name. She helped me out once, when they screwed up my season tickets. 3. That old guy who was always really friendly when you went in to buy tickets. He was probably about 10-11 ticket managers ago.......so this probably goes all the way back to '99 or so. 4. The current guy. Nice kid. 5. The Siamese twins who were our ticket manager back in '84. The one was really nice, even though his twin obviously didn't want to work there. The nice one once helped me out, when there was a screw up with my season tickets. 6. The deaf and dumb mute who was our ticket manager back in '88. Really nice guy. It is because of him, that I now know sign language for, "Say, what happened to my season tickets?" 7. Oh, that guy.....5-6 ticket managers ago. Will always be a saint in my book, because he moved PMG out of my section. Thank you, whatever the heck your name was. That's just a short list.

Here are my Top Ten (in no particular order): Kenny Williams---lead nation in rebounding Fred Mitchell--great forward on Blakely teams Melvin "Lurch" Davis----ditto Walter "Weasel" Johnson---best PG I have ever seen at UNT Kenneth Lyons Chris Davis Ronnie Morgan---center on team which went to NCAA tourney Isaac Hines Jesse Ratliff Pat Hicks

Here are my top 10: 1. Jordan Case---He was so good in '78. It was sad to see what Jerry Moore and his coaches did to Jordan and Bernard Jackson during '79 season. 2. Kenny Washington 3. Mitch Maher 4. Scott Davis 5. Joe Stevenson 6. Greg Carter (very underrated; lead us to our first 1-AA playoff berth in '83) 7. Andrew Smith (First bowl win since 1947 or so. ) 8. Kenny Smith (great backup during Kenny Washington era) 9. Glen Ray (another backup; makes list for leading us to win over Tennessee in '75) 10. Scott Hall (was a good QB; will always think he might have been a great safety)

I may be taking this the wrong way, but it almost seems like the guy is asking if we'd like to join the MWC. I infer that from his comment "North Texas would be a good travel with TCU." It seems like he's calling us a travel partner for TCU (which wouldn't pertain to football anyway). Anyway, as far as a OOC series with UNM (if that's what the guy means)......I'm all for it. In 1982, we had "upset" the 1-A Lobos at Fouts...... PMG and I were so thrilled, that 1-AA NT had upset a 1-A team. Anyway, we had scored the "winning" touchdown with about 30 seconds left to go ahead 17-14 (I think). Anyway, by the time Plummster and I had gotten down from our upper deck seats to the concourse, UNM had scored and taken the victory away from us, 20-17. That was homecoming in '82.

WTF? We've never played Holy Cross in football. How was there a brewing rivalry between us and them? I've never heard of this. Please explain, EE.

MG 61....I have every one of those polls in a scrapbook. I guess we made the UPI poll the last 7-8 weeks of that season, as I recall. The highest we got in that poll that year....was 13th.

Who Will Bring National Pub To NT This Year?
SUMG replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
I beg to differ. I don't think beating KSU would put us in the top 25. K State isn't in anyone's top 25. Most mags have them as the 3rd-4th best team in the weak Big 12 North. Their first two games (before us) are FIU and Marshall. So, KSU isn't gonna be anywhere near the top 25 themselves before we play them. So how exactly would beating KSU put us in the top 25? Now upsetting LSU.....would definitely put us in there. And btw......we were in the top 25 before. (In 1977....reaching as high as 13th.....finishing 16th in the UPI poll). -
Yeah, Lifer's right. Brian started out as a TE......was a pretty good TE. As a matter of fact, after three years, he was on course to break Luis Silva's all-time receptions record for a TE. Well, then DD was hired. DD and his staff turned Brian into a two-way player, playing him at DT and TE. And even though Brian only needed 10 receptions his senior year to break the aforementioned record, he never had a chance. (As Dickey and his OC never threw to the TE that year). So, Brian is great in the NFL.......but he wasn't an O Lineman at NT. And at the positions he played (TE and DT), he wasn't good enough to beat out others on this list, IMHO.

QB--Steve Ramsey (Honorable mention nod to Jordan Case, though) RB--Jamario Thomas RB--Bernard Jackson TE---Luis Silva OL--Phillip Armour Nick Zuniga Glen Holloway Scott Bowles Greg Davidson WR--- Ron Shanklin Troy Redwine DL----- Joe Greene "Booger" Kennedy Walter Chapman Cedric Hardman Honorable Mention on D Line: Tony Elliott LB--- Burks Washington Cody Spencer Byron Gross DB--- J.T.
