  1. I thought both of our signees held their own, at the High School Coaches All Star Game. They both are very active on the court. If you saw it, their weak point was free throw shooting. (But that may just be from rustiness). Anyway...Harold did well in the dunk contest. And when they showed the graphic on Justin...on the question "What Is Something About You We Don't Know"......his answer was "I'm the next Shaq." Craig Way and Jim Haller must have mentioned North Texas at least 6-7 times during the game. Anyway...I think these two guys will be good additions to the Mean Green in 2005-2006.
  2. You may be right about that, MG 61. BUT..... FAU still has four conference games being televised (to our 3). Those all would be a part of the SBC package. And Florida International, which brings nothing to the table.....has as many games being televised (3) as a part of the SBC package as we do. It seems that Wright sure wants to showcase those Florida schools. And think about this......our longest trip (both games at Miami when we play FAU and FIU down there) NEITHER ONE OF THOSE IS TELEVISED. So, yeah Wright was sure as Hell nicer to these two damn Florida schools than he was to his league's four time defending champion.
  3. Just a reminder that the game is on Fox Sports SW tonight at 7:30.
  4. Not only do we only get 4 games in this package....one of our games is tape delayed (LSU). Since that's a night game.....you can count on that game not being shown probably until 10 p.m. or later (after the game is over).
  5. If FAU is all of the sudden the league "darling".....it would seem to me that if you're gonna televise a bunch of FAU games....our game, against them in Miami.......would be one of them.
  6. For there to be an All-Time SBC Team.....that team should only encompass the years that the league has been in existence (the last 4). To make up a team of players, most of whom didn't even compete against SBC teams when they played....is ridiculous.
  7. The composite TV schedule is on that second link that you gave. I find it really strange that FAU has about 7 TV appearances to our 4.
  8. Once again.......you can move one section over (in either direction) and not have to pay the $250. Sections D and F go to at least the 30-35 yard line, as I recall. So, they aren't bad seats. $250 is about 68 cents a day. Anyway......Emmitt lays out some great reasons to be in the Mean Green Club. Let me add this: Giving to the Mean Green Club is similar to giving to a charity. You do it because it's the RIGHT thing to do, not because of what you're going to get out of it. I mean when folks gave to tsunami relief were they expecting a tsunami relief tote bag to arrive in the mail? When all of the folks gave to those 9-11 funds, were we expecting to get a commemorative statue of the World Trade Center? I wasn't. How about this as an intangible reason for giving? Since our contributions go to pay for athletes' scholarships.....anyone who gives, can think "Hey, I'm helping pay for Jamario Thomas (or any other favorite player of yours) to go to school." 68 cents a day. And yet, most people don't think twice about dropping down $3 for a latte.
  9. It seems like it came.....a couple of weeks ago.
  10. So....if I understand you....you've been in Section E all these years, and now that they are requiring a $250 donation to stay in Section E......you can't afford it? Well, then just move over to Sections D or F. Those would be 30 yard line (or so) seats. You certainly won't be in the END ZONE, as you say. And you might want to count your blessings. If you were following some schools, your needed donation to sit in Sections D, E, or F, would be in the thousands. Not just $250. (for Section E only).
  11. I received two of the Fan Guides in the mail today. Also, for some reason I now receive 3 North Texans every quarter. (And I know of another fan who received two Fan Guides). I hate that our university and Ath. Department waste money like that. I'm no computer guy. But couldn't there be some kind of cross checking thing put into the system.....whereby only one mailing would be sent to one particular address? just wondering
  12. Thanks for posting those rosters, Aaron. Unless I missed somebody....I didn't see any of our football recruits in the game. Am I right on that? But on Monday....we have two hoopsters (Howerton, Stewart) playing in the b-ball game.
  13. Are either Justin Howerton or Harold Stewart.......playing in this game for the North squad?
  14. The Whataburger Texas High School Coaches All-Star game is Tuesday night on FSSW. Anyone know if we have any players on either the North or South rosters. Also, the Whataburger all-star b-ball game is Monday night. (Howerton?, Harold Stewart?)
  15. You know why A & M succeeded raising more than $1 billion? Because a lot of Aggies (a lot) contributed to their fund raising drive. Not just millionaires. At North Texas....we have about 250 or so members in our Mean Green Club. Everyone else just seems to sit around waiting for the "fat cat" to build us a stadium. What's really sad....is that this board, you would think would be frequented by our most rabid of fans. Yet, how many frequenters of this board are even in the MGC? 20% 25% So, if our most rabid of fans, won't give even a nickel of their disposable income to the program they "love"......what on God's Mean Green Earth....makes you think some disconnected billionaire/millionaire is gonna give millions of theirs? Think it wouldn't help RV and the other fundraisers, if when they're meeting that fat cat...if they had ammo in hand, about how many of our "faithful" back the program with their own money. Think having a 1,000 or so members in the MGC, wouldn't help the cause? So keep dreaming about some rich dude or dudette giving us millions. I guess when the big boy gives us his check, that's when all the sudden, some of the dead weight around here, is gonna find their check books. Yeah, right. You can be in the lowest level of the MGC for about 34 cents a day. Yeah, that's right.
  16. (the story from the SBC site): NEW ORLEANS - SIRIUS Satellite Radio will get a taste of the Sun Belt Conference early next week during the league's annual Football Media Day Event. Each day, selected participants will be featured on SIRIUS channel 123 on the "Rivals Radio Show" from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. central. Bill King, a 20-year veteran of national radio, serves as host for the daily show and Middle Tennessee State University alum Chris Childers serves as co-host. Childers also hosts "The Blitz" on weekends on SIRIUS channel 123. Head coaches and student-athletes from all eight football-playing institutions will be present to participate in the two-day event beginning Monday, July 25. The schedule is as follows: Monday, July 25 9am - 9:10am -- Antonio Warren, LB, Arkansas State 9:10am - 9:20am -- Eugene Kwarteng, DE, UL Lafayette 9:20am - 9:30am -- Bernard Davis, LB, Troy 9:30am - 9:40am -- Rudy Martzke, USA Today Columnist 9:40am - 10:00am -- Jim Donnan, ESPN.com 10:30am - 11:00am -- Darrell Dickey (head coach)/Patrick Cobbs RB/Jamario Thomas RB, North Texas Tuesday, July 26 9:00am - 9:10am -- Dennis Burke, LB, Middle Tennessee 9:10am - 9:40am -- Danny Embrick QB/Howard Schnellenberger (head coach), Florida Atlantic 9:40am - 9:50am -- Steven Jyles, QB, UL Monroe 9:50am - 10:00am -- Josh Padrick, QB, Florida International More interviews will be scheduled throughout the summer and during the fall season.
  17. Jim...are you sure about that? When I looked at that schedule....it looked like Jim Donnan was going to be interviewed by the hosts of this Sirius show, and that our trio would follow on that show. It doesn't say that Jim Donnan will do the interviewing, but that he will be interviewed. At least that's what I read.................
  18. I'd sign him. His nickname should be: Heir Jordan.
  19. I think you're right about those two, Eagle 96. Also, usually these "all-star" games, tend to try and have a lot of kids from the host state's colleges, just to help draw in the locals. Therefore, I think the fact that it's gonna be in Texas, would help our kids' chances. Also, Plumm....Gil Brandt has helped picked the rosters before. Don't know if he still does it or not. H-town....you may be thinking of that Army sponsored all star game, for the greatest senior high school players. That is played in the Alamo Dome.....and features players like Adrian Peterson (when he was a senior). I'll agree with you there.....the chances of us ever having a player in that game....are very, very slim.
  20. First of all, we've had players in the game before. ("Booger" was the most recent one). And that was when it was on the West Coast. So why now that the game is gonna be in Texas....are you so sure we wouldn't have a chance in Hell of having a player in that game?
  21. I'm glad the Viet Nam War was over by the time I got to college. If it hadn't have been, I would be posting right now on the message board for The University of Winnipeg Fightin' Moose Killers. GMK
  22. I read in the DMN the other day, that the 2006 East-West Shrine Game will be played in the Alamo Dome. (as long as I can remember...it was played in the SF Bay Area--usually in Palo Alto). That's good news if we have a player in that game. Maybe some of our fans could see the game in person.
  23. To show you what kind of fan Dr. Pohl is/was: Last year, on Homecoming Saturday (a day in which you know he had a lot of events to attend)..............he and his wife came to the Super Pit to watch the men's basketball team's scrimmage. That is a good fan.
  24. I voted no. The reason: We may have won the last four championships, but weren't we in the bottom half of league attendance last year? So, if ULL or Troy or some other school, is actually making more $$$ off of their football program than we are, why shouldn't the market dictate things? And if that means their coaches make more....so be it.
  25. I'm with you on that, eulesseagle... The knee-jerk & impulsive reactions on this board never cease to amaze me. But that's really OK because this is a shocker to most of us in the Mean Green Nation today. DO YOU REMEMBER? Yet when the TCU AD job opened, a few of you had Rick V leaving NT and into that job before TCU officials even started their national search. What gives with all this? I predicted TCU would go more for the champagne and cavier type AD over the beer and pretzels type AD that I perceive Rick V to be. IMHO, NT needs the beer and pretzels approach with our most diversified alumnus group more than champagne and cavier. Most of you by now know what kind of AD the Horned Frog faithful hired. I forecasted that the TCU AD would even have the sauve, gray haired Fortune 500 CEO type look and I'll be darned if he did! (Hey! Every once in a while I hit on some of these predicitons)! LOL! Calm down troops, the sky is truly not going to fall over this. Sure we will miss Dr. Pohl, but he is not the end-all in presidents who support NCAA D1-A athletics in word and deed. Anyone think Bobby Ray and our BOR's already kind of know what kind of president they want to replace Norval? I'd bet Bobby Ray already has his creative motors running on this new NT scenario already.
