  1. The D-RC prefers letters to the editor, via e-mail....according to the paper's editorial page. But, you can handwrite or type them, as well. The letters must be 250 words or less..... E-mail address: drc@dentonrc.com You can fax a letter to: 940-566-6888 D-RC mailing address: Letters to the editor P.O. Box 369 Denton, Texas 76202
  2. Read it for yourself: http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/....1de128494.html
  3. Wanna bet that the next time that Vito has a negative (towards Dodge) angle on this story....that all of the sudden, it's back on page 1 of sports??? I guarantee it.
  4. It was in today's paper. I guess Vito is talking about the stories about the Friday night games. They could have held it until tomorrow (Sunday), since there's no Mean Green game to report on.
  5. A response to the criticisms....by Brett Vito: (from the D-RC blog) We have received a lot of criticism today for running a story about Todd Dodge's former black players coming to his defense in the wake of the news that the NAACP and the university are investigating allegations of racial bias by the North Texas football staff on an inside page. We would have liked to put the story out front, but the simple fact is Friday is a day we emphasize high school coverage, which is important to our readership. Guyer and Ryan played in a Class 4A Region I quarterfinal volleyball playoff game, Ryan took on Wichita Falls Rider for the District 5-4A title, Guyer played Sherman in town and Argyle beat Decatur to move into a tie for first place in District 8-3A. Those were all extremely important stories to our readers who care about the high school scene. Sometimes difficult choices have to be made, and that was our call. As this investigation goes forward we will continue to cover every development and work it into our overall coverage plan. There is little doubt the story is the biggest one out there to a lot of our readers, but to a our high school fans, it pales in comparison to Ryan and state-ranked Guyer playing in the volleyball playoffs. That's the beauty and the problem of sports sections. Everyone thinks that his or her story is the most important, which makes the balancing act tough at times.
  6. I get the print edition of the D-RC. In today's (Saturday) paper....Vito does a story about how some former UNT players (Greg Matthews, Roland Jackson, Troy Redwine, etc.) have all come to the defense of Todd Dodge. All of the former players mentioned are Black, and they say that they've never seen one hint of racism from Coach Dodge. This POS paper.....puts that story on page 4 of the sports section. Every other story about the alleged racial bias....has been on either the very front page of the paper, or the front page of the sports section. Also, there is nothing on the front page of the Sports today.....alerting readers to this story being on page 4. And, as of 9:41.....I can't find the story anywhere on the DR-C website. And idiots in the press.....wonder why so many of us have such low regard for what they do. BTW....kudos to those fellows for stepping forward and defending TD.
  7. Gee....I've never heard of this before. From The DMN blog: Steve Orsini talks often of selling SMU. Now the athletic director is officially a recruiter. Along with having a full-speed football coaching search underway, Orsini and two members of his staff on Friday received a rare waiver from the NCAA allowing them to recruit football players. SMU fired coach Phil Bennett on Sunday, though Bennett and his staff are serving out the remaining four games of the season. Orsini and executive assistant AD Mike Vaught and director of football operations Randy Ross can initiate phone calls and send written correspondence to prospects until Nov. 10th. Under traditional NCAA rules, only official members of the coaching staff can recruit. “I am sure it will assist the recruiting process, as it provides an avenue to get critical information to these prospects with respect to the change in football leadership,” said Jeff Konya, assistant AD for compliance, in a statement. Bennett said earlier this week that his staff would maintain basic recruiting roles but would not offer scholarships. Posted by Kate Hairopoulos at 5:43 PM (E-mail this entry) | Comments
  8. Gee....in 40 years, we've gone from "Mean" Joe Greene......to "Pissed Off" Dominique Green. Seriously......I think Eagle 1855's thoughts are right on. Great post, btw. It should be pointed out, that Joseph Miller who was blasting Dom Green on the sideline....IS ALSO BLACK.

  10. I'm there.
  11. Please disregard the thread........where I said that there would be a TD radio show tonight. Even though someone in the SI Dept. told me this morning that it was on for tonight.....I guess it's not. Thanks to NT 80 for alerting me to this on the aforementioned thread. So, No TD Radio Show tonight.
  12. Even though we have an Open Date.....I was told by the Sports Info Department, that there will be a TD Radio Show tonight. It's at Sweetwater at 6:30. The food's good, TD and Georgie are great.....the margaritas are $2. Plus, you might meet some Mean Green fans that you've never met before. GMG!
  13. Pardon my ignorance........but what is the USNA D & B? I'm presuming that's the Navy's "drum and bugle" corps. Right?
  14. I talked to somebody at the ticket office this morning. Anyway, the person I talked to, told me that b-ball season tickets were mailed out today.
  15. From Brett Vito's blog: In an interesting side note, the Sun Belt Conference Tournament will be played in Hot Springs, Ark., in the 2009-2011 seasons. Hot Springs is a great city....I think they just built a new arena. Plus, at that time of the year, Oaklawn Park (horse racing) will be in full swing.
  16. That would be Patrick's first ever regular season TD.....right???? Way to go, PC!
  17. Hey, I wanted us to win today....don't get me wrong. But now that we've lost....I can see a silver lining: We aren't going anywhere this year. So, all we would have done by winning is screwed up our probable bowl rep. We would have knocked them totally out of the AP poll (others receiving votes part of the poll). Plus, we would have sent our bowl rep to NO with a lesser record. So yeah...I hope that FAU and Troy continue to do well. That way....maybe we'll have two bowl teams again. Maybe. As to the game: Yeah, we have plenty of things to work on. But, one thing I do love: Todd's kids don't quit on him. I think we're gonna be all right. Just write this year off. The future is still bright.
  18. We'll have four scholarships to give......Bell, Williams, Wooden and Willingham. Two of those are guards.....so we will need to sign some guards, too.
  19. Warren was suited up the other night. Did anyone else notice Deavin Cox played some at DB? (He's a senior---so he's not an option for next year).
  20. One other guy to put in the mix in the defensive backfield....is Greg Garden, the DB who transferred from Navy (he played at Denton High). He's sitting out this season. Not sure if he's a safety or a corner....anyone know?
  21. Among the seniors.....do any of our kids have NFL potential? (And, I would think....they'd have to make it as undrafted FAs.....as I don't know of any of our players who might be drafted.) But, do any of them have a chance to be signed as Undrafted FAs----Aaron Weathers? Brandon Jackson? Montey? J-Mo? Maurice Holman? Anybody else? I'd say our best bet would be Aaron Weathers. Any thoughts?
  22. According to the Sporting News......Pac-10 rumors are rampant....that Mike Price may go back to Washington State. He would replace Bill Doba, Price's WSU Def. Coordinator, who had replaced Price, when Price originally left for Bama. Doba would stay on as Price's DC. Doba, Price, and the current WSU AD are all good friends.....according to the report.
  23. That was great....thanks for posting that Harry.
  24. You missed it on the list.....but the longest NT field goal ever was by Iseed Khoury, in 1977 (against Richmond). His was 62 yards. Neat list, btw.
  25. http://charlotte.rivals.com/viewprospect.a...mp;pr_key=69380 This kid originally signed with St. Louis...........but transferred. From what I understand....we had him in for a visit. This may be the big kid that Buford Julep saw at practice last Saturday.
