How Mean Green softball is shaping up in 2025 and beyond
SUMG replied to Matt from A700's topic in Mean Green Athletics
I haven't been disappointed in how we've done in conference play. We're gonna finish anywhere from 17-10 to 20-7 in league play. Was disappointed in how we didn't compete against name teams, in OOC play. I do think the future is bright. I think those incoming recruits are very talented. (especially the pitchers from Michigan and Tennessee). And I think Ausha Moore, will be another speed merchant like Cierra is. One more thing: I think Madison Conley will be our next great power hitter. -
Regardless of what happens tomorrow.....we need to win 2 of 3 in Charlotte....right? As to backup catcher Moffitt......in our last game at Memphis....she tripped over first base....and fell on her wrist. I'm guessing it's a sprained wrist. As to backup catcher....I don't think we have one. But they used Olguin to warm up people in the bullpen. And remember on Kalei....she had to catch 16 innings last night.....and today's game was early. So might just be gassed. Go Mean Green!!!

Former Drake Guard Atin Wright commits to North Texas
SUMG replied to Jdawg48's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Brett Vito (D-RC) points out that Drake's coach took the job at West Va. And that Wright could have followed him there. And apparently Arkansas and Florida reached out to him....but he chose us. (all info from BV) -

Great pickup. Really impressed by his shooting %.....50% from 2, 41% from 3. -
Agreed. But I can understand them trying to get this game in today. If they do it....WSU can get home a day early....instead of having to stay around. Will try to make it too....won't be there at the start though. Go Mean Green!!!

Three really nice touches for Senior Weekend 1) All ten senior players numbers in big white letters on the field. 5 of them in foul territory going from home plate up to 3rd.....the other five going from home plate up to 1st. 2) Having moms and dads of the seniors all throw out "ceremonial" first pitches......to their kiddos. 3) And honoring WSU's 8 or so seniors....by having our players present them all with one white rose and one yellow rose. (their team colors).....very classy.

Great wins tonight. As of right now....no definitive time yet for the final game. I had heard 10 am Saturday.....but that's not listed anywhere.

Nice walk off win in the 9th....4-3....on a homer by Molly Rainey. All three homers today by seniors....Molly, Kailey Gamble (tied it at 3 in the 7th)...and Kalei Christensen....with a solo blast for our first run. Skylar gets the win....in relief of Mackenzie Wagoner. Great win.....game two coming up soon.

Softball Schedule Update--Weekend Games With Wichita State
SUMG replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Athletics
Just got in from a run.....and I hate windy days when I run. It wasn't that bad. But it will be noticeable. Right field might get some homers....glad we have some good lefty bats like Kailey, Lexi, Molly, Kat..... Will be there for game 1..... -
It's not been reported over there yet....but we lost another b-ball player to the portal y'day (Terrence Dixon). He played very little. But, as of this point......that will mean, if no one else leaves......9 new players in basketball next year. And, I'm guessing it's gonna be close to 50 new players in football this season. To me, that's not sustainable. You have to have some kind of relationship with the players. They can't all be "rentals."

G5s Finally Getting Together......Talking About Their Future
SUMG replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Football
I missed that....when I first read it. Yeah....no way. I only want a separate G5 championship. I don't want a play-in tourney for the CFP. To Hell with that. Now....if they still want to take a 12th G5 each year for the CFP (based on regular season and conference championship games, if those still exist)....that would be okay. Then the rest of the top G5s could have their own natty. -
Fairfield guard Jasper Floyd transferring to UNT
SUMG replied to Matt from A700's topic in Mean Green Basketball
From Brett V: UNT was among a host of schools that showed interest in Floyd after he entered the transfer portal. Southern Illinois, Marshall, Arkansas-Little Rock and San Jose State also offered Floyd a scholarship. Also.....Floyd said that last season was an okay season for him, and that he has multiple things to work on. I like the humility of the kid. -
G5s Finally Getting Together......Talking About Their Future

If you read that second story....it seems there would be 8 team divisions. And I love this: The new divisions would be realigned geographically, in part to benefit Olympic sports. These spread out leagues....benefit nobody. We could be here 100 years from now....and no one is gonna care about a game against Charlotte.- 65 replies

SFA stud guard Latrell Jossell commits to North Texas
SUMG replied to Jdawg48's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Played in 9 games as a true freshman at KU. But KU really liked him....he was signed to a letter of intent. He wasn't a walk-on. Here Bill Self just raves about him: https://kuathletics.com/kansas-inks-guard-latrell-jossell/ -

So he played his freshman year at Kansas....under Coach Self....before going to SFA. Another good addition....
