  1. Birmingham columnist rips Saban: http://www.al.com/birminghamnews/stories/i...coll=2#continue

  3. I hate when people take something relatively minor in the scheme of things (a loss in a game) and compare it to some of the worst things that people can experience in life. Another example of this was when Tom Penders was coaching at UT. They played a game at Baylor. Anyway, some of the Baylor fans found out that Penders' wife was at the game, and they started razzing her pretty badly. Not exactly a classy thing to do, I'll grant you that. But no matter what the Baylor fans might have said, it didn't warrant her response in the paper the next day. She was quoted as saying, "I felt as if I had been raped."
  4. Ben and Arlington Grace Prep play Everman (@ Everman)....tonight at 8. (according to the Tuesday FW paper).
  5. (from the dmnews.com blog by Chuck Carlton): Football coaches have the annoying tendency to sometimes compare their game to war. But Alabama's Nick Saban may have set a new standard for lack of perspective. Talking about his team's 21-14 upset loss Saturday to Sun Belt member Louisiana-Monroe, Saban waded deep into analogies that were better left unsaid. Here's the first three paragraphs of the Associated Press story on Saban's Monday press conference: Alabama fans aren't the only ones treating the Louisiana-Monroe loss as a monumental event. Coach Nick Saban described the humbling defeat in almost apocalyptic terms Monday, mentioning the 9-11 terrorist attacks and Pearl Harbor in talking about how his team must rebound like America did from a "catastrophic event." "Changes in history usually occur after some kind of catastrophic event," Saban said. "It may be 9-11, which sort of changed the spirit of America relative to catastrophic events. Pearl Harbor kind of got us ready for World War II, and that was a catastrophic event." Oh, he also compared the Crimson Tide to an alcoholic hitting rock bottom.
  6. Keep on doing what you guys are doing. It's great. Way back when I was a freshman (1975)......we came from 20+ down at the half, to beat Baylor, in a game at Baylor. After the game, as about 500 or so Mean Green fans were walking around the concourse of their Colesium, Bill Bolden lead all of us in a chant. (Bill was a Residence Hall Director at Kerr Hall). The chant was: "Who Say....Who Say.....Who Say the Mean Green Ain't A Bad MF Now?" (it was repeated numerous times; and we didn't say MF....we said the actual words) And no, I'm not bringing this up....to bring that yell back. (since that's pretty coarse language). Just saying that it was pretty cool doing it that once. Especially at Baylor. We taught some blue hairs a new two word combo...I think.
  7. This also means that there is no conflict for any of our new fans from SLC....who also want to see the Mean Green play (on Saturday). GMG! GSLC!

  9. Speaking of SMU....they only beat TAMU-CC by 4 (74-70). That's according to Brett Vito. He also notes (on the drc.com blog), that today our women went on a 32-2 run.....that stretched over parts of both halves.
  10. Actually Rick....we have the Jets this Thursday....then the Packers, a week from Thursday.
  11. Halftime score: UNT 48 Texas A & M---Corpus Christi---17
  12. I agree. I'm very proud of those guys and gals. I realize it'll be Thanksgiving break....but I hope some of the Crew makes it to Arlington on Wednesday. GMG!
  13. Ben Knox, our signee from Arlington Grace Prep....had 6 points in a game last night against Cleburne.
  14. The final is in from Moody: http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=273212567
  15. That's already been discussed in this thread: http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=37858 And, it's not 60 points....it's 90.
  16. I think the NMSU game before the Texas game will tell us a lot, as well.
  17. The Alabama message boards are buzzing.............. http://alabama.rivals.com/forum.asp?fid=427
  18. What the Hell are you even talking about? Do you even know? CMJ has been a rabid fan on this board for years. Well before any of us ever heard of Keith 7. And btw....someone saying that they're being "cautiously optimistic" is in no way slamming the team. also, if you're going be so nitpicky...why don't you stop slamming the football team?
  19. Notre Dame still gets decent ratings....even when they suck. If NBC dropped them....you'd have every one of their games picked up by all the other networks. (ABC, CBS, Fox Sports, the ESPNs).
  20. Season tickets are counted in the official attendance. So even if someone wasn't there and had bought a ticket...it counts toward the total.
  21. Well not breaking that record gives us something to shoot for. But, really if we break it...is it that big of a deal? I mean, yes, we've had bad defense this year. We all know that. Is somehow having the statistical worst defense ever (point-wise) going to be some kind of black mark on our school? Nope. 99.9% of the posters on this board (myself included) couldn't have told you that Eastern Michigan held the previous record (without looking it up). So there.
  22. I'd like to know though....was that record we might break...done in an 11-game season or a 12-game season? Because, it's not really fair to compare the two records....if we end up breaking it, but play one more game.
  23. These games are set for 2008: @ LSU @ Kansas State @ Rice H- Tulsa 2009: @ Ball State @ Alabama Those are all set according to today's FW paper. I believe the other two 2009 games will be home games with Rice and Army.
  24. Casey now holds the single season receiving records for: Yards and Receptions. He still needs one TD to tie, and two TDs to break Ron Shanklin's single season record for TD catches.
  25. 13,300. But whatever it ends up being....we've had a great year, attendance wise. I think right now, we're a little over 83,000.....as I recall. So, if we just have 7,000 there, our average for the year is going to be 18,000+. Not bad for a team that has been either winless or 1-win for every home game.
