I would second the motion on Sykes. I think he will be a good backup...at DE. Also, what about Kyle Russo? I think he'll be in the mix, as well. And at DB...you can't count out Antoine Bush...after all, coaches just voted him our best DB last year.

I think part of the problem is this. While we're in a big market (D-FW) and are used to top notch journalists (TV and papers)....the D-RC is still the minor leagues. So, whatever we get there....as the D-RC beat reporter...is going to be someone who is just starting out in their careers. I think Brett does a pretty good job. He's no Timmy MacMahon...but, he's not bad.

You act as if you want the man (Vito) to be non-objective. That's what our sports information department, is for. And since you looked up the word "tact" in the dictionary...maybe gander over at the "p's" and check out the definition of the word "potential." Trust me, the LSU game is a "potential" beat down.

(Thoughts by Brett Vito): January 28, 2008 UNT-LSU game I did a little asking around today about the status of the UNT-LSU football game next season. Take it for what it's worth, but an LSU official said that the school is trying to set up a home-and-home series with a BCS conference opponent beginning next season. The official said LSU might have to move a game to make room for the new series on its schedule, but at this point it does not plan on moving the UNT game. UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal said the school is still working on moving a few games around and will not have its schedule finalized for a few weeks. It should be interesting to see how UNT's schedule shapes up, but at this point, a couple of scenarios seem possible. The UNT-LSU game is moved back to later in the season to accommodate an LSU game against a BCS opponent or UNT heads to Baton Rouge for a big payday and a potential beat down at the hands of the defending national champion to open the season. UNT will host Tulsa on Sept. 6 and play at Kansas State on Sept. 27 in two other non-conference games. Both Tulsa and KSU have released their schedules.

That's always quite an elite group....the Parade All Americans. Anyway, the reason I ask, is that Riley Dodge was named to the Parade All American team.

Last night, at the football banquet....they mentioned that, even though it is not fully planned yet....there will be an Signing Date event put on by Athletics. I believe they said that it would be in the evening.....and that it would be open to the public. Anyway, they said to watch the official site for more details. Also, it's pretty neat to know that we had 17 freshmen football players, make the Academic Honor roll this past semester. Very impressive.

I get the feeling that the tennis team is about to become one of our better teams: http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle...;ATCLID=1376449

Coach JJ is a great guy, and a good recruiter. But on gameday, he is what he is.....a .500 coach. He's been coaching for 8 years now, and is I think now 2-3 game over .500. Get used to it.

Nice 3 by Dez. I sure don't get taking our final timeout there.......

Down by only six at the half....35-29....they ended up losing by 39. (89-50). Wow.

I looked at the DCTF Winter Edition today at Hastings. It's $6.95, and I don't think this thing is going to sell very well. For one thing....in the write-ups...they talk about recruiting commitments as if they are already on their prospective teams. I think if they are going to do a Winter Edition....I think they should publish after signing date. To do speculative reporting (as they do in this)...does very little for me. Anyway, I love DCTF...but I didn't think this thing is worth $6.95 Anyone else looked at it...or bought it?

(thoughts by Brett Vito---Denton Record Chronicle): UNT has been cleaning up on the recruiting front the last few months and has one last spot to give after the addition of Northwest Mississippi C.C. defensive end Alonzo Horton. By the way, look for that last spot to go to a junior college offensive lineman. Any way, like a lot of experts out there I am ready to call the race for the Sun Belt Conference recruiting title. And your winner is ... I can feel the anticipation building. … Troy. That's not really a big surprise. Troy has cleaned up through the years, which is one reason the Trojans always seem to be sitting at the top of the Sun Belt standings while featuring a first-day NFL Draft prospect or two. The Trojans have been at it again this year and are sitting at No. 72 nationally in Rivals.com's national rankings with UNT just behind at 76. The difference? Troy's ranking is based on the first 16 players who committed to play for the Trojans, while UNT's ranking is based on the 24 players it has committed. With just one spot left to give, UNT won't make up a deficit that will continue to grow as Troy finishes out its class. The Trojans picked up three more recruits on Friday, including three-star wide receiver Charles Reeves, who also had offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. He will give Troy a big boost when he is counted in its total tomorrow. UNT has its best recruiting class since at least the 2000 season when the Mean Green landed Brandon Kennedy, Scott Hall and Jonas Buckles, among others. There are seven three-star recruits in UNT's class, including offensive lineman Troy Franklin of Celina, who some sharp-eyed Mean Green fans noticed was upgraded by one star recently. Troy had four three-star players counted in its ranking as of Friday and will have five with the addition of Reeves. Figuring out recruiting rankings is a little like pondering calculus, and I was never very good at math, but the simple explanation for Troy ranking higher than UNT with fewer three-star players is the Trojans picked up some bonus points in the Rivals.com system based on the state rankings and national position rankings of its recruits. That's not really all that important. What is interesting is that UNT gave Troy, a consistent winner under Larry Blakeney, a run despite finishing 2-10 last season. You have to give UNT head coach Todd Dodge credit for making the recruiting race competitive in a year when the Mean Green was never a factor in the chase for the Sun Belt title. I don't see anyone passing Troy or UNT at this point, so I guess the Mean Green takes over if the Trojans are unable to fulfill their duties as recruiting champions. I know there are some Mean Green fans out there who fancy themselves recruiting experts, which I do not. So be sure to post your thoughts. Are you happy to see UNT finish No. 2 in the unofficial Sun Belt recruiting wars this season?

The MAC has Eastern Michigan. The "direction" they're missing is South.

If we only have one scholly left to give...I would hope that it would go to an O lineman (since we're losing Peachey). Also, Fentriss and Garden have been on scholarship....ever since they transferred. I'm pretty sure neither of them would count toward this year's recruiting numbers. So, I think we still have one scholly left to dole out.

The story was in today's Denton paper.....a story by Vito. Also, the DMN version of the story (by Vito) has been on this board all day. It's posted by Stebo...below. No way can you say that FW paper scooped him on this.

Can they even add over at the Athletic Department? Geez. So, if I want twelve tickets.....and had two other friends buy 4 each ...and I bought four....our MGC donation total would only be $750. ($250 x 3) Right? But, if one person buys all twelve (for a group)....it would cost him $1500 to the MGC.

Interesting Stadium Expansion Video For James Madison U
SUMG replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Those people have no clue about how to get a stadium built. What they should be doing is ......they should be in about the 6th year of a sort of secretive, quiet phase. They should not have that video available for fans to see either. That video should kept in the AD's office, and only shown to as few a fans, as possible. Good luck JMU...trying to do it YOUR way. -
