  1. Since women's basketball has gone through its' boom, if you will (the late 80s until now).....NT has had one and only one head coach....Tina Slinker. It's time we gave someone else a chance. She's been here for 19 years. I can't think of any other school in America, that would keep a men's or women's b-ball coach around for that long....if that coach had never ever taken the school to the NCAA tournament.
  2. Even though I'm not sure he can play post in the NBA....I think the Mavs might bring up 1st round draft choice, Nick Fauzekas....from the D-League. He's 6'11, but might be more of a 4 than a 5.
  3. The video of the story (I couldn't get the volume up very high on mine---but maybe it'll work better for others: http://www.wfaa.com/video/?nvid=217392&shu=1
  4. Trust me moderators....my point on all this...does concern UNT sports. Anyway, tonight Channel 8 (at 5)....had a story on a 14 year old girl, who is in the honors program at NT. She's a full time student. Anyway, to show you how smart she is....she has the SENSE to be wearing a UNT t-shirt for the story. Sadly though....while they showed her in class wearing her NT shirt......seated behind her is a gasbag wearing a Oklahoma State shirt. One can only hope she uses her great brains for evil....and kills that OSU punk.
  5. Well....we lost both games yesterday (Texas State and Tulsa).....so we're now 2-2. Our next games are at La. Tech...on the 13th....
  6. Here's a little updated information from today's paper: http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/...1.ae0833cc.html Sounds like he'll be okay...thank God. I didn't know you could pull a muscle and cause a blood clot. Anyway, this will leave us very shallow at the DT position this spring. Here's hoping that you have a full, speedy recovery Isaac.
  7. Vito didn't start anything on this board. Nautique made a post on Friday night, about 4 guys transferring. And, that one of the four was a "big name." Then, the F'idiots on this board, ran with it. Nautique, btw...is a nautical term, meaning "Long John Silver's employee."
  8. Arkansas State ought to really work with us...to help us move that game off of Thanksgiving Weekend. As I recall....a year or two ago...we moved some things around on our schedule....so that they could have a home game with Army. Anyone remember the exact details on that???
  9. Our softball gals start out with two wins, in a tournament in Denton today---they beat Creighton 3-0...and Tulsa 7-5. Way to go, NT Softball!
  10. Just more crap from a guy who posted a lot of rumors back in November: http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/index.ph...mp;#entry318399
  11. First of all, I don't think Desoto played. Secondly, you say that you see why he used some freshmen, but not sure why he "waisted" others. He did just that; he played 6-7 (as I recall) , and redshirted 10.
  12. Troy Phillips left out Antoine Bush....as another returnee who saw playing time last year.
  13. Yeah, in November...as I recall.
  14. Two things: 1) I hope Evan retained his speed....after his knee injury. He had a fairly bad knee injury toward the end of the regular season. Not sure if he'll be able to participate in spring ball---I think I had been told that he won't be able to. 2) I think someone told me that Cam was injured....and hadn't played enough...and we were able to get a medical redshirt on him for last season.
  15. (from the DMNews blog. Now TTech has two 1-AA schools on their 2008 football schedule: LUBBOCK – Texas Tech has added Eastern Washington to its 2008 football schedule as a replacement for Tulsa in the Red Raiders’ season opener Aug. 30 at Jones AT&T Stadium. Tulsa left the Red Raiders little time to find a replacement for their season opener when the school informed Tech in mid-January that it was exercising a $150,000 buyout clause to terminate the contract of a two-game series over the next two seasons. Tulsa replaced Tech on its schedule with a game against Arkansas on Nov. 1. “I think it’s bad business. They dropped us with seven months to go, which I don’t think’s good,” Tech coach Mike Leach said. “It’s one thing to shuffle around the schedule, but certainly they could do it a year in advance.” Tulsa backing out seven months before the game left Tech scrambling trying to find a team that also had an open date on its schedule. With most Football Bowl Subdivision teams having already completed their schedules long ago, Tech had to fill its opening with a second Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) team on its 2008 schedule. Tech also plays FCS-team Massachusetts on Sept. 20. Leach said he wasn’t concerned about having two FCS teams on the 2008 schedule. “Any opponent is fine,” Leach said.
  16. Just got back from the game: WKU is really good. I thought they were better than S Bama. Other than Texas...WKU is probably the best team we've played. Did they say if anything was wrong with Keith Wooden? He seemed so sluggish tonight--as if he was sick.
  17. I think it will be announced today....it should be in the paper(s) tomorrow. Might be on a blog (D-RC or FW paper) today. And, it might be on meangreensports.com some time today.
  18. A few other things that I remembered from the event last night: 1) Coach says that he tells every recruit to not plan on redshirting. He wants them all working out hard over the summer....and that if they think they're going to redshirt, some might slack off. So he means it, when he says that every recruit (each year)...gets to come in and fight for a job. He says he just let's redshirting play itself out naturally---instead of pre-planning who to redshirt and who not to redshirt. 2) The reason why I think Coleman Feeley stood out on his video highlights: He WANTS to make multiple blocks each play. On play after play, you'd see him mow over someone on the line....then going downfield hunting for LBs and DBs to "take out." 3) Coach said that he always has his centers hanging out with the receivers and QBs---since in the shotgun, that guy starts it all. Anyway, a while back ...Nick Leppo was at a summer 7-on-7 event. He was just snapping the ball all day....when a coach finally let him go out for a pass...which he caught. Anyway, TD says that all the high school kids really keep up with all the Rivals Rankings. So after learning about Leppo's catch....Todd told all the players that Rivals had just ranked Leppo as one of the Top 25 Dual Threat Centers in the country. And from that point on....Leppo's nickname has been Dual Threat.
  19. Mean Green 67 WKU 64 WKU was riding an 11 -game winning streak......and was undefeated in Belt play. Until now. This is the second undefeated in league play team, that has come to The Pit and lost. (S Bama's men were the other ones).
  20. WKU is 18-5, 11-0 in Belt play. This would be a huge upset for our gals.
  21. I thought RV said an architecht would be announced tomorrow....not a contractor.
  22. Man...if you could just see the videos that we all got to see....you'd want the season to start next week. Coach TD and his staff have added some really great athletes. Here's a couple of things I was able to pick up on: 1) Coach TD told me that he would announce tomorrow...who the new (and final) assistant is. Coach Deloach is going to coach linebackers, so the final assistant will coach CBs (with Coach Peterson coaching safeties). 2) To show you how high our staff was on John Shorter: TD and his staff had a 2006 Lake Highlands football program...when they started recruiting last year. (TD's first class). The program said that Shorter was a senior that season....when he was actually a junior. Coach TD said that when thought he was a senior last year....that he was the #1 recruit that they wanted...last year. 3) The o-linemen that we added are behemoths. Coleman Feeley looked great. Nate Jenkins is huge. (His juco team unis are very similar to LSU's---maybe the exact same colors. Anyway, when you see him in that uni....he looks just like a LSU lineman. Gabe Hollivay, Troy Franklin and Nick Leppo all looked great, as well. 4) Alonzo Horton....is such an athlete....that his junior college coaches....had him playing a Demarcus Ware type Linebacker on numerous plays. He's 6'4, 260...playing LB. 5) Jeremi Mathis will be a power running back....Lance Dunbar is more of a scatback type. 6) Small world: Royce Hill's dad is an elementary PE coach in Houston. One of his students years ago: Jeremy Phillips, our signee from Waller. 7) If the schedule holds true....we'll have three home games in October. There was a great crowd at the event.....I'm guessing 150 or more. BTW....all the recruits looked good....just because I didn't mention some by name, is not intended as a slight. These are just some of the things I could remember. Others who were there, can add their thoughts...
  23. (from the dallasnews.com sports blog): http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...608_signingday/
  24. (from the dallasnews.com blog): Those of us who are 24 fans aren't getting our favorite show right now, but at least we have Lake Highlands defensive back John Shorter. Let's see: Tuesday morning Shorter tells his coach, Scott Smith, he's solid with North Texas. Later Tuesday afternoon, Rivals reports Shorter has switched to Tulsa. When a reporter calls Smith to ask him about it, he is stunned. He makes a phone call, calls the reporter back, and says unhappily, "Yes, he's switched to Tulsa." Now go to Wednesday morning. Shorter walks into Smith's office and asks for his North Texas letter of intent. He takes both the North Texas and Tulsa letters down to the school's signing ceremony. He signs the letter to North Texas. And thus, John Shorter is going to North Texas.
  25. There were many days, Arlington Martin running back Jeremi Mathis said, where he wasn’t sure if any Division I school was interested in his services. That, though, was before his breakout senior season, in which he rushed for 1,457 yards and 18 touchdowns. “I got of phone calls here and there and it wasn’t looking too good,” Mathis said of his junior year. “But after this year, I had a good season, and calls started coming in.’” North Texas was among the first schools to pick up on the potential of this late bloomer, and it won him over. “UNT was my first visit and so it set the bar high,” Mathis said. “Everything that I did after that really couldn’t live up to the feeling I had at UNT.” Welcome aboard, Jeremi!
