Please contact RV. You have the makings of being a great UNT Athletics hiring committee member.

It's nice that Shanice Stephens wowed the committee. Did anyone on that committee even look up how Clemson did this year? They finished 12-19. I'm still for Capps. But, I've seen enough COMMITTEES around NT......hire the wrong people. Prediction: Next coach will be Shanice Stephens.

I've got a better chance of making out with one of my Avatar babes....than JJ does of getting the LSU job.

Who is Green?

(from Vito's blog): On the women's basketball front, I talked to two coaches who confirmed that they are not among the two as yet unidentified candidates who will interview for the UNT women's basketball coaching job this week. Texas Tech associate head coach Bill Brock and Lamar head coach and Sanger native Larry Tidwell both said they are not going to interview. Tidwell said he is happy where he is at and that the Mean Green will do well with any of the known candidates for the job. He was never contacted. Brock's name came up, but he was not offered a chance to interview.

I don't know what my account number is. But, I can only assume that with the way this athletic department treats me...that I'm #2.
-
I sure hope he gets a chance with someone. I think our only other possibility might be Aaron Weathers (as an undrafted FA).
-
Trust me buddy...no matter who we hire...I will certainly give them a chance, and will be glad to welcome them to the NT Family.

The woman from Oklahoma State (Larkin)....I'm not sure how experienced she is. Today's D-RC noted that she played on Trinity Valley CC's National Championship team in 1999. So, if she was 20 (?) or so then....she can't be much older than 29...I'm guessing. I don't know. You have such great experienced candidates like Brock and Capps....and you'd hire a really young coach or a Hall of Fame Player....neither of whom have that much coaching experience? Not me. I'm for Capps or Brock.

(story from dallasnews.com.....by Brett Vito): DENTON – Oklahoma State assistant coach Kenya Larkin will be the first of four candidates to interview to become the next women's basketball coach at North Texas, a job that has piqued the interest of Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman. Larkin will interview at UNT today, a source close to the search said Monday. Former UT-Arlington head coach Donna Capps will interview Friday. UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal originally asked Lieberman to be an adviser in the search, but Lieberman said Monday that she could become a candidate for the job. "I have talked to Rick informally and have not ruled out interviewing," she said. "There is no reason for me not to consider myself a candidate." Lieberman visited UNT last week and said she was impressed with the school and Villarreal's vision for the athletic department. The location of the school also appealed to Lieberman, who lives in the Dallas area. Lieberman said she has not applied for the job. "Does it make sense from the surface?" Lieberman said. "Yes, it does, but I would have to explore the situation." Lieberman was a three-time All-America selection at Old Dominion, won a silver medal in the 1976 Olympics and is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Villarreal declined to identify the two other coaches who will interview this week. Clemson associate head coach Shanice Stephens, who spent nine seasons as an assistant at Rice, has expressed interest in the job. UNT is searching for a replacement for Tina Slinker, whose contract was not renewed after her 19th season at the school.

Exactly right, Gray Eagle old pal. That's why I think it's relevant to UNT.

They are playing much closer up. Several of us noted that last week at the scrimmage.

Lieberman Candidate...others In Consideration
SUMG replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I was told that his chances might be hurt...by the fact that he's a man. We already have men as head coaches of two women's sports (Softball, Soccer)....and the thought is, it might look bad to have another male head coach for a women's team. I personally don't think that should hurt his chances...because he's an unbelievably great coach. (371-50 or so in juco). Just telling you what I'm hearing. -
UPDATE: According to today's D-RC...Eddrick didn't practice (class conflict). Here's the rest of that article: http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/...5.3216b9e9.html

Heard about this guy? I hadn't. Anyway, his plan is to try to see every Division I football stadium, before he's 30. I think it says that he's 25 now. Anyway, he's seen a lot already, and has commentary and pictures. I thought it was pretty cool. He hasn't been to Denton YET. Here's the site: http://www.project119.blogspot.com/

(FYI: Wyoming's stadium seats 33,000). Info below from the Star-Telegram blog: Texas officials have completed their non-conference football schedules for 2009 and 2010 by adding games against Wyoming, Louisiana-Monroe and Florida Atlantic. Texas will play a three-game series against Wyoming, beginning in 2009, as well as home games against Louisiana-Monroe (2009) and Florida Atlantic (2010). DeLoss Dodds, Texas' athletic director, said one vacancy on the 2009 slate arose when officials agreed to postpone a scheduled game at Arkansas until after the 2013 season, at the request of Razorbacks' officials. To fill that vacancy, Texas will play at Wyoming on Sept. 12, 2009. As part of the three-game agreement, the Cowboys will play twice in Austin _ on Sept. 11, 2010 and Sept. 1, 2012. Texas also announced one-game agreements to play Louisian-Monroe on Sept. 5, 2009 and Florida Atlantic on Sept. 25, 2010. Both games will be in Austin.

I may be wrong.....but I don't think Eddrick Gilmore was suited up today.

After seeing him on video (at the signing day function)....I really think that incoming freshman, Coleman Feeley....is gonna be one heckuva player. If not redshirted.....he would definitely be second team material...at least.

I was there for the first hour of the scrimmage. Giovanni walked off the field on his own. At the time, we had no idea how he was hurt. Now seeing that he bit his tongue.....makes me think it's pretty minor. May be painful....but shouldn't keep him out of practice...I wouldn't think. But, that's just speculation. Other notes: 1) Roderick Johnson made a great catch on a TD pass from Gio. 2) Cam and Micah both looked good at RB. Both had some nice gains on short passes. 3) The defense is really coming together. I think Joseph Miller has all-conference potential this year. 4) Knott had enough leg, but missed a 52 yd. field goal. Moreland seems to be kicking a lot of the PATs. 5) Freshman DB, Brendan Lamb....had a huge hit on #22. It was the kind of hit that had the whole defense "whooping and hollering." 6) Answering Rokemi's question......while I was there, Nathan looked pretty good. After Gio went out, it seemed that Nathan got most of the reps. 7) DB....#30.....had a nice INT in the end zone. 8) Matt Phillips really threaded the needle on a nice TD pass early in the scrimmage. 9) With Roderick Johnson, B J Lewis, and Sam Roberson.....we have more quality TALL receivers than I can ever remember us having. Just some thoughts....of what I saw while I was there.

I've been told that Lienhart wasn't doing too well with the girls....and they had to bring in Kurt Warner. -
I think this may be the last scrimmage before the Green-White game. 3:30 at Fouts...today.

I still think JJ to LSU is sort of a long shot, but definitely possible. If he were to get that job......that would mean that one third of the SEC coaches....were head coaches in the Belt, before getting hired by a SEC school. Right now, you have: Pelphrey...from South Bama....to Arkansas. Horn....from WKU to South Carolina. Felton....from WKU to Georgia. The Sun Belt.....the cradle of future SEC coaches.

Lieberman Candidate...others In Consideration
SUMG replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Nancy Lieberman is a legend in the sport. I think she'd be a huge hire for us. I love what she has to say in that article. I think, we couldn't go wrong hiring either her or Donna Capps (another great candidate). I think Nancy lives in the Metroplex...doesn't she? Anyway, her and Capps both living in the area, would be a huge advantage over that candidate from Clemson, for example. -
My brother, who lives in Louisiana had told me about this story (re: JJ to LSU). It was in The Shreveport Times: http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.d...338/1001/SPORTS
