Cowboys To Be Featured Team
SUMG replied to SUMG's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I also remember then Head Coach Dave Campo...doing some singing (karaoke)...during one episode. They do a great job on that show. I think it's NFL Films doing the work...and as you know they do great work. -

I know how to Tivo...but for the most part...am a techno-imbecile. How does one tivo-sync??? -

Speaking of Ralph and Razor......I think they're great. I plan on listening to them, while watching Versus. Since I have a satellite TV...there will be a slight delay (which I think is the same delay that my friend FFR is talking about). -

Detroit Redwings / Dallas Stars
SUMG replied to jperg2's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
The fact that the series doesn't start until Thursday...helps out. If we had to play again on Tuesday or even Wednesday....I pretty much think you could write off that first game. Anyway, I'm pulling for the Stars....but I think Detroit will win it, in 6. -
Check That -- Stephens' First Raise Will Come After First Season
SUMG replied to LAZER's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Rick...in today's print edition of the D-RC.....Vito states that the WKU coach had a base salary of $125,000 (plus incentives) in the 2007-2008 school. Meeting a lot of those incentives, raised her total pay to approximately $200,000. -
That's great... even better than Friday night. Folks could go to this game, and hardly even miss any work. The only downside is that the game will be on against a NFL game (probably a good one since that would be in the "flex" part of NBC's schedule). So, it might be hurt in the ratings. But hey, it's ESPN's idea......so they must not be worried about that.

I really wasn't talking about C-USA. I was talking about being in a league (The Sun Belt)...which can't seem to get even a second bowl tie-in, and has to hope that other leagues don't have enough eligible teams to fill their bowls. The only times we've had two bowl teams (Troy to the San Jose Bowl, and MTSU to the Motor City Bowl), was when that happened.
-
Yeah, but I've noticed that even though.....there are three new bowls lining up for certification...none of them are wanting to hook up with The Sun Belt. If and when we actually get a second bowl tie-in, that will be something to be thrilled about. But, to have to hope that other leagues not fill their commitments, isn't exactly a great situation.

Just posted on Vito's blog: April 28, 2008 Football/hoops notes Two of the UNT football team's best players of the past few seasons are going to get a chance to show what they can do for an NFL team. Defensive end Jeremiah Chapman will have a free agent tryout with the Minnesota Vikings in the next few days, while wide receiver Brandon Jackson has signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers. Chapman was a rock on UNT's defensive front throughout his career with the Mean Green and led the team in tackles (78), tackles for loss (17) and sacks (five) as a senior. Jackson caught 79 passes for 784 yards as a senior and was the Mean Green's second-leading receiver in each of his last three seasons. On the basketball front, several blog readers pointed out that prep school point guard Cardell McFarland committed to Missouri State. I have said the last few days that UNT has one scholarship left to give and since former Davidson commit Alex Voyoukas had not heard from UNT and Caleb Patterson, who is transferring from Colorado, is not visiting Denton, threw out there that the Mean Green might be targeting Dallas Kimball guard Darian Thibodeaux. It now appears more likely that UNT will pocket that last scholarship and wait to see if it can land a Division I transfer who would sit out a season or save it for a player in the Class of 2009. That wouldn't be an entirely bad deal for the Mean Green, which has already addressed its needs by lining up a class that will include: JC All-American power forward Eric Tramiel, Arlington Grace Prep forward Ben Knox and Arkansas-Fort Smith point guard Dominique Johnson.

I sent that info to Brett Vito......just in case he didn't know about it. Anyway, Brett responded and told me that he's working on a blog update, about where two UNT players are headed, as undrafted FAs (not sure if BJax is one of the two, or if he was talking about two different players). Anyway Brett said he hoped to have info on his blog at around 10:30.

Way to go.....there's one that's been signed. Hopefully more. Here's the Chargers Undrafted FA list: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hashmarks/0-6-4...ers-add-17.html

Interesting undrafted FA pickup by the Cowboys. If you've never heard of this kid...many people felt like he was unfairly treated, and should have never gone to prison. The overwhelming evidence was that the sex was consensual (between him and the 15 year old classmate). Anyway, he was an unbelievable talent, and now has resurrected his career, after a prison stay: The Cowboys signed Hampton defensive end Marcus Dixon to a three-year deal as an undrafted free agent. Dixon spent 15 months in prison for aggravated child molestation and statutory rape before the Georgia Supreme Court ordered his immediate release in 2004. Dixon, 6-4, 295, was a three-year captain at Hampton and was on the Dean's list. He finished his senior year with six sacks. The Cowboys, "were the most aggressive during the day," Dixon's agent Joe Linta said. "They didn't have a seventh round pick, but they convinced me that they would've taken him had they had one. Tim Ciskowki's word to me is gold." Linta said no team expressed any concern over Dixon's past leading to him not being drafted.

(Posted in DMNews blog by the great Tim McMahon. Reading what Walden did to us in the MTSU game last year, reminded me of who this guy is: Wade Phillips said you couldn't help but be impressed with sixth-round pick Erik Walden's toughness when you watched him play with turf toe last season. The Cowboys also liked the way Walden ran and hit. They won't get any arguments from North Texas coach Todd Dodge, who recalls the Mean Green's meeting with Walden all too well. Walden, a DE who will convert to OLB, was a dominant force in Middle Tennessee's 38-28 win over my alma mater last season. Walden had three tackles for loss, a sack, a safety and an interception in the game. The pick was an eye-popping display of athleticism, with Walden skying to deflect a screen pass to himself to halt a drive that would have given the Mean Green the lead. Walden returned it to the 3-yard line. "I'm curious what his vertical is," Dodge said, "because it sure was high on that play." Dodge described Walden (6-2, 237) as the prototype Sun Belt defensive end -- a little undersized but with excellent burst. Walden played on the weak side in college, and Dodge didn't think the move to OLB in a 3-4 scheme would be difficult for him. "He can flat-out run," Dodge said. "He was a handful."

I like Brett and think he does a good job. Even though we are in a major market (the Metroplex)....the D-RC is not a big market paper. We get a lot of info from his blog....which he seems to update a lot more often than the FW paper does theirs. So, slam me if you want...I don't care. Kudos to Brett Vito. Keep up the good work.

Mean Green Prospects Hope, prepare For Potential N F L Career

I saw J-Mo at the softball game last Sunday, and I asked him if any particular teams were showing more interest than others, and he said no. (That sort of backs up what is stated in the article). Anyway, here's hoping some team gives him a chance. I still feel our other best bet...is Aaron Weathers. Good luck to them all. -
Good list, buddy. But, the guy who went to Elizabeth City was Jethro Pugh. Eric Williams went to Central State (in Ohio)....I think.

Pacman Finally A Cowboy
SUMG replied to Green Mean's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
With capacity going up to 80,000+....it's possible that there will be some blackouts in the future. Probably not for a while, as most fans will want to go see a game at the new stadium. I always get NFL Sunday Ticket every year. I wonder, if you get Sunday Ticket...if a game were to be blacked out in your area....if you'd get the game? I'm thinking you would. -
When did they show it???? Because here in the Metroplex, we had the Stars playoff game and post game show.

Some folks have asked what has happened to the great PlummMeanGreen. Thankfully, he's alive and well....and still loves the Mean Green. Anyway this is what he's up to: If you need any DJ/Karaoke services for a party or special event......Plumm will do you a great job. He can even do a tribute to Elvis, if that's your cup of tea. Here's the website for his company. You can see him in some of the photos: http://www.soundworksdeejay.com/
