  1. This guy was way before my time...but I've certainly heard all about him. Must have been one of the best ever: http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/...gh.347b24f.html
  2. Vito mentioned that this big juco DE from California, who had committed to Iowa State...is now rethinking that (since Chizik left). Anyway, apparently.....Rivals mentions only NT and Iowa State in their profile of Martin---who is a big DE, by our standards. http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewp...sp?pr_key=84593

  5. Yahoo Sports' Dan Wetzel rips Auburn for not hiring Turner Gill: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...burncoach121508
  6. I've got to think Gill to Iowa State, would be a great move for the Cyclones. He's still a legend in nearby Nebraska. Plus, if he can recruit to Buffalo...he can recruit to Ames, Iowa. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=889935
  7. As I recall....I think it said he was from Evanston, Illinois. Most of the HBU roster was from Houston (Houston, Katy, Pearland). I think 10 of their 13 were from the greater Houston area.
  8. Well it was the last weekend before juco signing date. So that's probably why they had them in---just to get them in before Dec. 17.
  9. UNIVERSITY PARK - SMU literally gave this one away. A three-point play by guard Eric Brooks with 0.2 seconds to go propelled Arkansas-Pine Bluff over SMU, 64-62 Monday night at Moody Coliseum. The stunning end was created by SMU missing the front end on three consecutive one-and-ones inside the final minute. With clank off the rim, Pine Bluff jumped for the rebound, went the other way and scored. The Golden Lions were overjoyed as they earned their first victory in eight tries. SMU, meanwhile, was left stunned, and fell to 3-4. Freshman Paul McCoy led the Mustangs with 15 points.
  10. Before the season, Chevy was considering: UTEP, Montana State, ULM, Buffalo and UNT. https://www.thegarlandnews.com/sports.cfm?article=7409

  12. WKU is pretty schizophrenic. They get blown out by Murray State...but defeat Louisville and Georgia. And now tonight...at the half: Evansville 36 WKU 13 WKU shot 13% from the field in the first half. If this holds up...WKU's RPI will plummet.
  13. Aces killing the Toppers, so far. Evansville up 23-10 about midway through the first half.
  14. In today's DMNews...sports media writer Barry Horn writes about this upcoming HBO documentary. In it...he mentions that Levias was the first black scholarship athlete in SWC history. So maybe that's the difference---Levias was on scholarship...maybe Westbrook wasn't. (I'm just guessing, btw). Anyway, that's the first time I had ever seen it written that way---that Levias was the first black scholarship athlete.
  15. If you get DirecTV and get the sports package....FCS is channel 617. The game starts at 7.
  16. Maybe Royse City OL Brock Wempa will now back out of his commitment to Iowa State. Anyway, Chizik won 5 games in two years at Iowa State---3 the first, 2 the second. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=888957
  17. If you take every article that Vito writes.....you can take letters out of those articles and form the words, 'Mean Joe Greene is gay." Now are you going to tell me that he doesn't have an agenda?
  18. We have four scholarships to give (Howerton, Stewart, Dennis and McCoy)...plus hopefully we'll get our APR scholarship back. We've filled two of the scholarships with Holmen and Shorter. And one will go to Cameron Spencer....the kid that came here from SMU. That leaves two to fill....but possibly only one.

  20. Here's last year's Senior Bowl invitees at WR........that number is the round that they were projected to be drafted in 2008 draft. WR Doucet, Early (LSU) 1st, South WR Sweed, Limas (Texas) 1st-2nd, South (no longer on roster due to wrist injury) WR Caldwell, Andre (Florida) 2nd, South WR Avery, Donnie (Houston) 2nd, South WR Bowman, Adarius (Oklahoma State) 2nd-3rd, North WR Hall, D.J. (Alabama) 3rd, South WR Douglas, Harry (Louisville) 3rd-4th, South WR Bryant, Dorien (Purdue) 3rd-4th, North WR Hawkins, Lavelle (Cal) 4th, North WR Royal, Eddie, (Va. Tech) 4th, North WR Nelson, Jordy (Kansas State) 4th-5th, North WR Smith, Marcus (New Mexico) 6th-7th, North WR Jackson, Dexter (Appalachia State) 7th, South
  21. I doubt it. (Since that one is played after the bowls and features the top draftable players....I just think he chances at that game are remote). We have had guys in the other all-star games before....but not in The Senior Bowl (not since I've been following us anyway). If the Blue-Gray game was still around...I think he'd have a shot at that. The East-West Shrine game is now played at Robertson Stadium in Houston.....he wasn't listed on the roster for that game. One other shot...would be The Hula Bowl.

  24. I don't think being bowl eligible is asking too much...at all. But, I do think there may be a few less bowls next year. It's just a guess....but I think 2-3 of the current ones may not be around in 2009.(And the Indy Bowl might just be one of those).
  25. We know that if Jacob breaks your tournament scoring records....that he's really a helluva player.
