Tragic News
SUMG replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Lots of famous people died today....especially in the sports world: Former Detroit Tiger pitcher Mark "The Bird" Fidyrich Philles announcer, and voice of NFL Films, the great Harry Kalas former Arizona State football coach Bruce Snyder -
They just posted the final of today's softball game. We swept Troy, by winning today 6-0. And, if I read this boxscore correctly....our pitcher had a no-hitter, and would have had a perfect game, if not for two Mean Green errors. Our gals are now 24-18....play La Tech in a DH at home, next Wednesday: http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewContent...ONTENT_ID=51634

Here's the text of the House Bill: http://www.legis.state.tx.us/tlodocs/81R/b...ml/HB02024I.htm I find Section II to be interesting. If the bill gets 2/3 vote in favor of it, it goes into effect IMMEDIATELY. If it passes only by simple majority...it goes into effect Sept. 1, 2009.

Congrats to the Movin Mav Nation. I'll look forward to watching us play you all there. If the thing is set for completion in 3 years.....why couldn't the D-FW tournament start way before that? I mean, if the site is to rotate...UTA could be the last site in the rotation.....meaning that it would give time for the completion before you all would even host the tournament.

A while back TFLF had this to say about the greatness of former Iowa State coach Dan McCarney: Turner Gill would not take the Iowa State job anyway. Someone who knows Iowa needs to be at the Iowa State job. They had a guy there, Dan McCarney. A new AD came in and fired him. The new guy was a joke. McCarney had a losing season in 2006. Five of the six seasons prior to that, he had Iowa State in bowl games. The Cyclones have appeared in nine bowl games in 119 years; McCarney led them to five of those. He is the only ISU coach to ever lead the Cyclones to a bowl victories. They hadn't even been to a bowl game in 22 seasons before McCarney led them to their first ever bowl win in 2000. The young, newfangled Iowa State athletic director is getting what he deserves for giving the ax to a man who was loyal to Iowa State. McCarney was born in Iowa played for the Iowa Hawkeyes and coached 12 of his first 13 seasons there under Hayden Fry. He then became the defensive coordinator for fellow Fry coaching staff almunus Barry Alvarez. No man was more the fit for the ISU job than McCarney. Since being fired by the idiot AD, he's coached the defensive line for South Florida and Florida. He with the Gators now preparing for their tilt with OU in the national title game. It would be fitting if Florida's DL were to shut down OU's offense. The sad thing is, McCarney gets no joy from ISU being torn down. I hope they have sense enough to rehire him - or fire the idiot AD who tossed him aside and hire someone who will. For what he accomplished at a school known for decent basektball, but losing football, he deserved better than to have some snotnosed punk throw him out. To see that AD up there yesterday and today talking about betrayal and whatnot...what nerve that punk has. It's his own fault ISU is in this mess to begin with. Sanctimonious twit. So obviously Lonnie likes Dan McCarney. Well, this week Coach Dodge hired McCarney's long time Defensive line coach, Mike Nelson. As a matter of fact, McCarney recommended Nelson to Dodge. I'm still waiting for Lonnie to praise the hiring of Nelson. But, I guess then he'd have to praise Dodge, which doesn't seem possible.

As far as I know....this is the RB from Liberty this year.
-
Look at it this way: That's two less losses for Johnny Jones every year.
-
I hate to tell you, but this isn't that tough of a league this year. We have 6 conference losses, and as I recall, every one of those games was winnable. Anyway, typical JJ season. Win a bunch of OOC games against weak competition. Then go around .500 in league play. And hope that you win the SBC tournament. We are now at 10 losses....and with several more losses for sure...you can kiss goodbye any chance for a NIT or CBI bid. No, with Jones, it's win the SBC tournament or else. Never ever have a year when you can be considered for a NCAA at large bid, NIT or CBI.

Here's the list of recruits. They signed a girl named McDowell, who is smart, a good athlete and probably damn good looking. Just a guess. http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle...;ATCLID=3662096

For those of you who have no clue, let me fill you in: Thompson is our head coach's son. We just won a battle with West Virginia for the young man's services. Even though he is one of the nation's top recruits, we plan on Yellow shirting him. Yellow shirting is a new NCAA designation. With that designation, the player can sit out a year, as long as he pays his way, and wins a stage of the Tour De France. Anyone can correct me on anything that I've gotten wrong.

I think that might be Katz's....that you're talking about. The first time I ever went into Central Grille...was last August. I went in, because so many folks on here had raved about it. That night was the night of the Kickoff Cookout. I was joined by fellow posters, Fire Fightin Rick, NT80, and the great Green Grenade II. We all ordered and our food was great. Since we were new customers, Tom and Cheryl both came over, and talked to us....and were just great. As we were eating, Tom asked if we liked chicken wings. We all said that we did. Anyway, minutes later....Tom comes out with 20 wings (4 different flavors)....and they were "on the house." So, I love Central Grill. And of all the places in Denton I go.....I think they're the absolute best at customer service.
-
Yeah, I know buddy. I was just talking about for spring ball. Derek won't be here until August.
-
Yeah, good move. They're very supportive of NT Athletics. We need to run all those kind of places out of business. Maybe when they're gone, we can replace them with another Denton business that doesn't give a $hit. Do some of you people not have an edit mechanism? Does every thought that you have, have to be posted? Good Lord.

Dodge added a walk-on from Tyler JC...Steven Schwark. It at least gives us four "arms" for this spring (Riley, Nathan and Baine being the others). From researching it....Schwark played his high school ball at Mesquite Horn.
-
At the Kickoff Cookout, he encouraged fans to come watch his team practice. That's true. But when you went to practice, Mark Barrow had you thrown out. Barrow is now gone. All I can tell you, is that tonight....Coach Dodge looked me straight in the eye, and told me that fans could go to the first scrimmage. I guess I'll find out in August....
-
Nice crowd....I'm guessing 80-100...it's hard to tell in there. Two other notes: Coach Dodge did point out, that in spite of all that has happened....we've not lost one single player from the 2008 class. Also, I asked and was told that they feel very confident that all three of the jucos will qualify (unlike Horton last year). I'm talking about the jucos who aren't here yet (Jackson, Weber and Atkinson). Also, Coach Dodge told me that the two Mississippi OL jucos who came in last year (Hollivay and Jenkins)---they both came into town way overweight. But, Hollivay got here and was here all summer and dropped 30 lbs before fall camp started. Because of that, Hollivay was able to play in all 12 games, starting many of them. Jenkins, didn't report until August and didn't have the time to lose weight and had to be redshirted. Because of that, the plan is to get Jackson, Weber and Atkinson here for the summer so that they can be working out and getting in shape. Also, today at Central Grille I met current player Steve Warren. He told me the new strength coach is working them out hard.

Coach Dodge said tonight that we open at Ball State (as we all know). Anyway, he then noted that the next week we would play at home against Ohio. So, it seems that our home opener will be Saturday September 12 Also, Coach Dodge told me personally, that fans will be allowed at the first fall scrimmage. That was great news to us fans who like to see the new players in the fall.
-
Thanks GM. If that's the entire class that committed....then Coach Dodge and his staff deserve major kudos. Other than Keenan Flax (early on) and Knighton....I think they've done a great job of keeping the class on board. And quite frankly.....after seeing him, I think I would rather have Tyler Washington than Knighton anyway.
-
Thanks buddy. I think, unless I've missed someone....the only one we're waiting on is Tyler Washington.

Here is what we can tell you about the football schedule as it stands today. We are under restrictions from the Sun Belt Conference on releasing our complete schedule until they have finalized the league’s television rights. We should be able to release the full schedule on or about April 1. What is for certain is that we are scheduled to have six home games in 2009, including non-conference games against Ohio and Army. The Mean Green is scheduled to open the season at Ball State and will also mix in a non-conference game at Alabama. We will play an eight-game conference schedule beginning this fall when Western Kentucky becomes a full-fledged member. As far as future non-conference opponents, North Texas currently has contracts with Clemson, Rice, Kansas State and Army in 2010. The 2011 non-conference schedule currently has Tulsa and two Southeastern Conference opponents, but there is a good chance one of those SEC schools will be replaced. It also looks like South Alabama could be added to the 2011 schedule if they stay on schedule to begin their program.
