Recruits who considered NT but committed elsewhere
H-towngreen replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Did these players transfer elsewhere? I'm sure we know where, hopefully. Could this in fact help us in certain ways as maybe a recruit a little out of our league, but not big time either, may not be able to play an entire season. Therefore scaring away other schools. Just thinkig a little here. -
Recruits who considered NT but committed elsewhere
H-towngreen replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
At least we are in some good company with K-State and A&M. How many players did we sign last year from the Beaumont area and how many were we looking from that area this year? -
I doubt that those listed weights are up to date, as the are probably from the end of their jr years or before the sr year even started. And second players can stack on as much as 30-40 lbs in a year.

Just three quick questions. Are we ever going to see PC and JT in the same backfield for more than two plays a game? Shouldnt we go with 4 wide every once in a while to spread the field and give our RB a little more room to run? What happened to our FB Henderson? I know we already have a starter, but by all accounts he had an impressive spring. Our starting FB now weighs all of 200 lbs.

Thanks for keeping us updated on the recruiting process. Any idea on when these kids will start taking there official visits here to NT?

Young is going to stay, one to work on his throwing and two because his mom wants him to graduate.

Will "Rita" hurt FB recruiting in Beaumont area?
H-towngreen replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Not only Rita but Katrina as well. It is something that may both help and hurt recruiting. Many players from NO had to move to schools here in TX. Therefore many low to mid-level players have been lost in the move. I know down here in Houston most 5A schools have had at least 1 transfer from NO. This maybe a apot where NT can come in and pick up a kid or two who now slip under the radar. -
What would be a "succesfull" season now?
H-towngreen replied to stebo's topic in Mean Green Football
There is no way in hell we would get an at large bid at 6-5. It all depends on what Troy and another belt contender do, prolly ASU. If we win out conference we still have a decent shot at a bowl. La. Tech, juding by others don't expect to much. -
Top priority this year and future years
H-towngreen replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Football
Agreed, but recruiting big men is probably the hardest postion to fill. You have to look at an 18 yr old kid and predict how much weight he can put on in a few years and still be able to play. We have had problems with that in the past, many players who just havent turned out or left the team for whatever reasons. How about trying out that Banks kid, he's a big boy for a fresh. Has anyone seen how he's been doing in practice. -
Agreed. Good post, everyone needs a reminder every now and then.

GET OFF DICKEY AND THE TEAM ....
H-towngreen replied to Ole Green Guts's topic in Mean Green Football
You're right about Muzzy and the deep routes we need either Brandon Jackson or Stickler to do that if not Quinn. -
Are we ever going to stop getting stupid personal foul penalties? They kill any momentum you have going. I liked what I saw out of Meager (see post) The O-line looks terrible. I know its tough when there are 8 men in the box, but they once again gave us nothing. Both in terms of pass protection and running lanes. Are we ever going to see PC and JT in the same backfield for more than a few plays. We need to come up with a bette way for them to split their carries. If you only have JT in for 5 plays he is not going to break one of for 50 yds. He needs a few carries to get into rythem. Man do we miss TJ Raymond. We need someone clogging up the middle to help stop the run. Our LBs were not filling holes last night they waited for the blockers to come to them.

No, unfortunetly I wont be able to attend tonight as I am still working my way through school. On the good side I work at a Icehouse, so all that means is that I sit on my ass with some friends and watch the game while doing a "quality inspection" of the "product".
-
I'm going to go ahead and guess that PC is starting again but what about J-Mo. Is his hammy doing any better? Will we see the two of them lined up in the same backfield at all tonight? Is he finally going to get more carries than PC?

DRC Bruce Bell/Van Malone reunited as NT
H-towngreen replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Al least Bell will be around until after signing day. Does anyone know what area Van Malone is in charge of recruiting? -
Tonight Jerry ran 18 for 73 1td and had 2 catches for 89 1 td. They were playing Kempner who is ranked #10 in the Houston area. A good outing considering other than his two catches Austin throw for 3 yds. Its tough to get yards with 8-9-10 men in the box. He'd fit right in here at NT.
-
Jerry is from my old high school and my brothers current. My bro is a soph. on JV and I have seen him at all the games but last time he was wearing a TCU shirt. In his first 3 games this season he has 2 200+ games 7 tds? I haven't had a chance to check out a game but I will within the next few weeks and give yall an update. On a side note the TE Trevor Stuart one of the top 5 in state was wearing a NT shirt the other day. Although he has already verbaled to UNC, he still has plenty of time to change. Hopefully former Austin player Brandon Jackson can get his former teamates to the good side.
-
He would be a great pick up for NT. DD is friends with his father so that gives us a little bonus. But his brother plays for Mizzu. It sounds like some bigger schools will come in the picture but you never know.
-
It's good to see that many prospects this early in the season. The kid from KS would be a good pick up, but it seems we are targeting some many good prospects at that postion. I wonder how the one from FL picked up on NT as he is looking at some big time other schools. The recruitment of OK is a huge help to the program as most other schools even OU and OSU are overlooking their own state of OK. When will prospects begin coming to games for their official vistits?
-
Oldtimer I know you usually keep an eye on how recruiting is going, do you have any updates, I know its still way early in the game. By the way what happened to the MGR recruiting database, when the site crashed that was never put back up.
-
The news just gets better and better. How much is this going to hurt us in our recruiting this season? Houston is one of the biggest recruiting hot spots in the nation, and we barely had a foot in the door as it was. Do yall think a new recruiting coordinator will come from within the team or a new hire?

FW*Telegram It's 108-9 / Last in SBC offense,7th
H-towngreen replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
DD said after Tulsa that he was going to get rid of the people not on the same ship as him. Sad to see him go, but we don't need any disturbances. It does hurt but luckily its at our most loaded postion. -
How about that Banks kid? What are the chances of seeing him out there?
-
The biggest play of the game was the run PC had down to the 1yd line in the 1st quarter ony to be called back due to holding. It would have put us up 9-0, you never know what would have happened from there.
