Is ESPN really the leader in sports, or should that title be taken away? They have lost their focus on televising sporting events, which is what they were designed to do. Im watching TOR/OTT Game 7 right now, but what's on ESPN? Why, it's an old boxing match. I could be wrong, but isn't that what ESPN CLASSIC is for? There are plenty of other things they could be televising. Only 1 basketball game is on, and that's on TNT. There are a TON of baseball games being played. Im sure there are soccer games on, etc. But no, they have to play an old boxing match. Last week, when the NHL playoffs first started, there were 2 or 3 games being played, and what did ESPN have on? ESPN had a POKER match on. Thats not even a sport!!!!. ESPN 2 had some program on the yankees, which could have been run during the day. So, out of 3 Stanley Cup Playoff games being played, the supposed "leader" in sports broadcasting with 2 stations, did not play a one of them. Thats Ridiculous!!! Even now as the game ends, they are going to Baseball Tonight, instead of actually showing a baseball game, or even an NBA playoff game. I don't see how they can continue to call themselves the leader in sports. Too often they are running programs, televising billiards, poker, and bowling, none of which are sports. Im suprised they havn't been televising the World Series of Crochet. I would love to see a new nationwide sports station begin to air on basic cable. Fox is local, so they don't count. Id like to see Westwood One, or better yet The Sporting News start to air a couple of all sports stations, call it The Sports Network, or something. OK, Ill admit, I have a hidden agenda for this rant. Yes I think ESPN is slacking in thier sports coverage. However, I am incredibly dissappointed in thier NHL coverage this year. I am a huge hockey fan, so I find it a tragedy that this great sport does not get the coverage it should recieve. Even worse, this coverage cutback comes at the WORST possible time. The NHL is facing a possible work stoppage, they are the lowest paid athletes of the 4 major sports, they get the least coaverageas it is, they are the only sport whose majority of games are televised on cable while others (FB, BB, Baseball) recieve regular coverage on nation wide stations like FOX, CBS, NBC, and ABC,the list goes on. you can even tell that ESPN/ABC put more effort into the NBA advertising that NHL advertising. They need the coverage that a station like ESPN could offer, as well as the money from the TV contract. A new sports station could give ESPN a run, as well as make the product better. Just think, you come home from work, your team is off, no need to worry, you know that there is a game on. Something to chew on.

The Stars just did not want it!

I don't think that Turco is a one hit wonder. I think a number of things contributed to his performance this year. His holdout took away from preperation time. As I said earlier, the defense is still suffering from the loss of Sydor and Hatcher. For the momentum killer and the end of the season, it was a combination of things. The Turco penalty was stupid, but he is young, things like that will happen. Hopefully he learned his lesson. Tugnutt played a pretty good 4 games, but if you watched the games, you may have noticed that it was at that time that the skaters started slacking in their own zone. Im not not excusing anyone, just saying that there is plenty of blame to go around, but it probably all started with Turco's penalty. I fogot to mention one other dman, John Erskin. If he can get healthy, WATCH OUT! He is a very big body and from what I heard, a good puck handler. He is a free agent, however, since he has not been playing much, hopefully there won't be many other teams bidding for his services, which will mean he will be more likely to resign. -

I agree it was a sorry display, but I dont agree with the assement. Very few of the Stars showed any desire during the playoffs. I didnt get to watch many of the games, but I was able to listen to a couple and watch a couple. I don't think Guerin did a good job. Did he even score any? You can't place the blame on Modano, ALL of them were slacking. Matvichuk, Turco, Modano, Guerin stand out as slacking. True, just about everyone was slacking, but they are your team leaders, they need to be called out. I agree with Modano being team captain. Apparently he had some big personal problems this year. Based on his past record, I won't pull the plug on him yet. Gurein's play has deteriorated. Not sure why, but I wont turn on him yet. Arnott, has some great talent, but has been injury prone since coming to Dallas. He will have an extended period to get healthy, I want to give him one more chance before trading. Whatever the outcome, Trading Newy and Jamie for Arnott and McKay(who left after that season) has to be one of the worst moves in Stars history. I will always wish for a do over there. Turgeon, never have liked how he turned out here. Trade him. Someone needs to light a fire under Zubov's ass. Genius with the puck and an incredible shot, but needs to spend some time alone and remember why he plays this game. Boucher has been a daimond in the rough. I don't like Armstrong, but I have to give him credit on that move. Bure was a steal, we have to resign him and give him a chance to gel with the rest of the team. Ott will be a stud, keep an eye on him. Morrow continues to amaze me. The guy can play and go toe to toe with the best of them, plus his wife is gorgeous They never recovered from the loss of Sydor (Zubov's partner) and Hatcher (Matty's partner) Daryl was highly underrated and the gap showed. Hatcher, even though pucks had a knack for finding a way to riccochet and bounce off him and toward the goal, was a physical presence. The Stars have an abundance of GOOD young goalies, and they will probably be able to move one of them for a good young prospect. On the bright side, the Stars have some good young talent. but like NT Eagle 08 said, next years team will be vastly different. The Stars have 10 players under contract for $44 Million. That leaves 13 players to sign for $6 Million. There will some major changes next year. For now, lets enjoy the rest of the greatest sports tournament there is. -

Band Of Brothers

Holy Crap that has to be one of the most narrow minded, short sighted, misinterpretations I have EVER seen!! If I actually have to answer that I have some serious issues with our nation's education system. What I was referring to was the actual story within the Event. Ie, the little love story plot in Pearl Harbor(THE MOVIE!), or the plot of having Tom Hanks character having to save Pvt Ryan. The events in BOB are true. Ie, LT Spiers running through the Geman lines to link up with another unit on the other side of the assult. Liberating a Concentration Camp, The drop ahead of DDay, etc. Please don't tell me you thought I was referring that Peal Harbor did not happen. -
The History Channel will begin broadcasting the mini series, "Band Of Brothers" on Sunday night. If you don't know what its about, it covers a company of paratroopers from the 506th Regiment, E or Easy Company during WW II. The series spans from their formation and basic training in Gerogia all the way through their liberation of Hitler's Eagle Nest. Along the way we watch them parachute into France ahead of the DDay invasion, through Market Garden, Bastogne, and into Germany. Every aspect of this series is brilliantly executed. The scenery, atmosphere, uniforms, acting, battle scenes. All of it is top notch. But it goes beyond that. Unlike Saving Private Ryan, or Pearl Harbor, THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. Some of the things these men went through will give you a new aspect on life. If you pay attention during the whole series, even beyond the battle scenes, you will learn about the soldiers and see the character development and the comradre of the men. All of the actors do an excellent job portraying their soldier. I believe most, if not all of them actually spent time with the real soldier. I urge everyone to watch. It will make you realize the freedoms you take for granted. Words can not describe just how awesome this series is. Trust me, if you do watch it, you won't be the same.

NHL Playoffs
Rudy replied to NTEagle08's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Tippett should play Aaron Downey Friday night. Take Guerin, Arnott, Downey, and tell them that when ever the puck is in the Avs in, to make a campfire in front of the goal and to not move. Then tell the other 4 to shoot the puck at least 2 feet off the ground or not at all. -
Since CBS in all its wisdom decided to take off the UL game and put on Memphis vs S.C, even though this is TX, you can listen online. http://www.ragincajuns.com/ click on the little ticket logo for the radio broadcast.

Valerie is very good. He is Pavel's younger brother. Personally I have never liked, but actually despised Pavel. It was in the Stars first season in Dallas, during the 2nd round of the playoffs in which Pavel cross checked and drove Shane Churla into the ice from the high slot. Valerie is a very fast and very talented player. And btw, he is married to Full House's Candace Cameron. So Id say he did pretty well in that department. -

Rudy replied to Rudy's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Just about every city offers softball. I want to play baseball. No offense to any of you that play, but to me, its too relaxed. -
Are there any local adult baseball leagues? I have heard that the city of Plano has them, but on the website, it merely lists softball. I really want to play, but Im too old for the youth baseball leagues, although I meet the height requiremnt

More Ranger Trade Talk
Rudy replied to Rudy's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Reyes, forgot his name. Im all for getting rid of Soriano, apparently he is already turning into an ass from what i hear. I like Mench, but if we get a good player for him and soriano, Im in. If they trade one of there good pitchers, then they are continuing to avoid the real problem. Well one of them anyways. -
Any students want to play intramural softball? e-mail or call me ASAP.

Yeah, its better if somebody wins. If you don't like ties, just wait until the playoffs. Hicks didn't exactly bring Lord Stanley's Cup to Dallas. Gainey was already here as Coach/GM. When he stepped down from coaching and placed Hitch in charge, it was possibly one of the most brilliant moves in sports. Gainey is a brilliant hockey mind. So, to be honest, Hicks didnt do much. When Gainey stepped down and Armstrong stepped it, well, not much luck so far. That being said, it does appear that they are turning the corner and Im pretty psyched!
