Why do you put ANY games at TWU? I don't remember them doing anything for us. Oh wait, I guess they will when it helps them out.
-
This is what I will say when it comes to attending sporting events. I left my post in PRINCETON, TX (east of McKinney), at 6 pm, the game started at 5:30. I hauled down 380 as fast as I could "legally" go, and got into the pit with 10 minutes left in the game. I know that alot of alums have to make a living. But, If I can make it to the game, there is NO EXCUSE as to why ANY student can not make it. If the students dont know about the tourney, maybe there are a few people that can go around and let people know about it.

I'd like a straight up trade: MTSU cheerleaders for the NT cheerleaders.
-
Just don't try to rob my bank Don't get out of there until 6, but I'll hopefully be there for the last part of the game. Matt, Debbie, Zeke, save me a spot down there.

Hey Bill, we want the OTHER Drew. <_

Yep, it was the greatest moment in sports history. So much going on in the world at the time, and the country united behind a hockey game. Truly a David vs. Goliath event. I would love to watch the whole game. The movie "Miracle" was a fantastic movie, and the HBO documentary was done very well. Everytime I watch it, I get choked up. Herb Brooks was a GENIUS!

More proof that ESPN is turning into a joke, If you tune in now you can watch the "sport" with a long and lustrious tradition known as ARM WRESTLING!!!!! Yes, they are broadcasting the 2004 national arm wrestling championships.

I think That he is right in that there are a bunch of players that use steriods. However, I very seriously doubt that Pudge and Raffy were on them. They may have tried them once or twice, but I think that the decided it wasn't their thing. Why do I think Pudge and Raffy are innocent? Pudge: we all know that steriods to make one suseptible to injury. Pudge Caught in Texas heat for around 10 years, and was very reliable. I don't think he could have done that while on steriods. His body is not one that you typically see with steriods, not an overy huge and muscular build. He always seemed very likeable, which steriods tend to make one prone to moodiness. Raffy: Once again, more of an average build. He did bulk up some, but he was young and his body was more impressionable to increasing body mass by work. His body has been very reliable, and he has been a very friendly person to the fans (that I am aware of) I am not saying they are innocent, but I have to see proof that they used them. Hersey is not proof. Juan, I think he has been on them. Injury after injury, and very moody to the fans and media. It is a shame, his career could have been greater than it was. Bonds: Do I really have to say anything? His head grew a whole freaking hat size in a year!!! He is a bonafide a-hole to fans and media. McGuire: Hitting balls out of an entire ballpark on a regular basis, is not natural. Not to mention looking at baseball cards from the beginning of his career, and seeing the contrast at the end. Canseco: Duh. You know the injury he sustained while pitching for Texas at Fenway? He wasn't thrwoing that hard, yet he tore his shoulder to shreds, pretty much ending his career. Oh and on the Reggie Jackson is a bonafide premodonna a-hole, I heard the hardling story, but I'd like to hear yours. -
Dammitt, what the hell is everyone's problem? Why can't someone post news about a sport OTHER than football, basketball, or baseball without having that sport ripped to effing shreds. Look, people do like other sports. Just because you don't like it is no reason to be disrespectful of others and the sports they enjoy. If you don't like auto racing, then don't read the stupid posts!!!

Debbie, yes, my dad was laid off from Coke with no notice, after 16 and a half years. It made things very difficult for us for about a year. My first car was my grandmother's 1981 chevy Citation, and there were times when I did not know if it would even start. Pretty much the only reason I could graduate from college is becuase my parents saved money, and then I even had to dip into my inheritance from my grandmother to finish. And, no, Debbie, you did not bash hockey in any way. You simply stated your opinion in regards to professional sports stoppages, lockouts, and strikes. They could apply to any of the pro sports. I was referring to stupid posts like the one made my unt_92_fan. If you want, I would be happy to take to you a Stars game once they start playing. If not, the Texas Tornado or Ft Worth Brhamas is an alternative. Just let me know. Once you've been to a game, you can get hooked very quickely. Matt, you just hit on something. Hockey is a hard sport to follow, outside of the NHL and local leagues. This kind of makes it exclusive. Once you watch, once you are hooked, you kind of feel drawn into a "fraternity" of sorts. if you get it and you get into it, you will do so with a passion. Hockey is not for everyone, but those who crave the smell of the ice, hockey just gets into your blood. One of the coolest sights is a rink with a fresh coat of ice early in the morning, with a layer of fog just above the sheet. Man I hope this agreement is true. -

I haven't heard anything about the possible NBA lockout, so I really would not be able to comment on it. As far as the KG comment, I just thought it was freakin hilarious. Like I said, both parties were responsible, but I think the owners escalated it beyond the necessary level. Hockey has its black eyes so to speak. Marty McSorley had his career ended due to a momentary lack of judgement, when he high sticked Donald Brashear. This past season, Bertuzzi took a cheap shot. Neither of those guys are dirty players, they just lost their temper. Much like Artest or Sprewell lost their tempers. Now I don't know what type of players Ron or Latrell are, maybe they really are aholes, maybe not, but they lost their temper and that helps to make the NBA look bad. Anyways, it still remains to be seen if the NHL will resume play this year. -

Debbie, i understand your POV in this, Ive been there, done it, got the t-shirt, and had it signed. I just don't know if you are looking at the big picture in this. Im not critisizing you, but if you want, I'd be happy to have a discussion with you sometime, pull me aside at the next bball bame. There is still some talk that this deal is not going to happen. -

It is just coming out that the season has been officially uncancelled, and it will be announced Saturday. This is great news for us hockey fans. The way its coming across is that the players and some of the owners were pissed about the way this was handled, and they were also upset that the fans were being treated. The parties involved met, once again excluding Goodenow and Bettman. I know some of you will not like this, and some still think this was all of the playes fault to begin with. If you look at it in more depth, yes, it was caused by BOTH parties, not just the players. The owners and Bettman probably esclated it more than necessary by the way it was handled. As this went on, more of the lockout has to fall on the Bettman. As its falling now, I think this will save the NHL, and help move hockey into the spotlight with the other 4 major sports. I believe it was stated best as "A little revolution now and then is a healthy thing." What you will see happen is Gary Bettman and Rick Goodenow will be fired, most likely after this abbrevieated season. The new commissioner will be someone who understands hockey, its legacy and history, and its close link with the fans. I think you will see the likes of a Mario Lemiuex as the new commish. Now as to what led to this development, like I said, the players and some owners like Gretzky and Lemiuex who understand the ties to the fans, made this happen. Some of you may not like this, but professional hockey players are the most down to earth, friendly, and the most appreciative athletes. In then end, they realized that the fans were getting screwed and they stepped up. I have to give props to the players for not giving up. Im not saying they were totally innocent in all of this, because they werent, but in the end, they, Lemiuex, and Gretzky fixed this. I also think this is the first step in sloving the problems the NHL has had. Now, I know some of you don't like hockey and that is fine, but please don't demean or badmouth this sport. I don't go around slamming basketball, soccer, tennis, or other sports that many of you like, please return the favor. -

True, greed is a major part. In comparison, professional hockey players make the least amount of money for the hardest sport to play. Yes the players association was greedy, but they did concede in te end. They agreed to a large pay reduction, AND a salary cap. The owners and Bettman won. but to those a-holes it wasnt enough to just win. They felt they had to crush the union, even at the expense of the fans. Bettman is the same owner who irresponsibly told the owners to spend whatever on players, because th NHL would be raking in money from endorsementsm tv deals, and ticket sales. He has run the league into near bankruptcy. Greed led to this, but Bettman's idiocy and ego are the reason this BS continues. -

The free-flowing aspect you referred to in international hockey play is largely due to a larger rink. I would not mind seeing that implemented in the NHL. Regarding rule changes, I would also like to try not calling two line passes. That has a big tendancy to slow the game. I like, NTEagle08 love hockey, but I would say that I am a student of the game. I would have been against rule changes too, but right now, we need to get more people into this sport. It truly is a great sport, one that I have spent the past 10 years loving and promoting, not to mention a few hundred $$ on it here at NT. -

Words can not ecpress how PISSED off I am about this. I think all of them are responsible, but Goodenow and Betteman are the catalysts. This has been coming for 10 freaking years, and they did not try to avoid this. I hope the NHL can rise above this, hockey is one of the greatest sports. Once you give it a shot, you can become hooked very quickly. It took me one game to get hooked back in 1992, when the Rangers and blues held a game at Reunion. The sucess of that game led to the North Stars moving to Dallas the following season and becoming the Dallas Stars. If the NHL does have to use replacement players, it can work. Don't sell the American hockey program short. It has grown leaps and bounds the past 10-15 years. We talked about this Monday night Matt, the American teams would use players from the minors, juniors, and junior A teams. Most of those players are bound for the NHL anyways. Don't forget that Hockey is the national pasttime of Canada. Im sure they can field top notch teams. I think the Canadian government would make an exception on the no replacement workers rule. The NHL can make it work with replacement players. The true fans will still come to watch, and there there could still be some new fans that start watching. IF this is the beginning of the end of the NHL, hockey will not die. There will could be a new league starting up. If this BS persists, There are a couple of hall of famers that are willing to start a new league. -
When are ya'll holding tryouts again? Aren't there 2 squads? I thought there used to be? Anyways, thanks for the info.
-
19 to freakin 1 (ONE) One damn point? Loooonnnnnng night ahead yay, 19-3 now
-
Yeah, I'm sure it is, but that is rediculus! Why cant they have an even number of games? Not play in one of those tournements where no NT fans will be, and replace it with 5 home games. There you go, an even schedule, and a chance to build more fan base for the SB team.
-
That sucks about the cheerleaders not getting scholarships, but all of the dancers can show up? Are they on scholarship? Also, aren't there 2 squads of cheerleaders? If there were, they could alternate. Here is an idea, for each game, invite varsity cheerleaders from area high schools to come and cheer with the NT cheerleaders. Maybe they could get some sort of NT uniform (maybe shirt and shorts) and blend in with the NT cheerleaders. I agree, 3 is better than two, but not good enough.
-
I think there will be a strong showing of fans, but what about the cheerleaders. Seriously, why are there only 4 or 5 there every game. I didnt say anything during the break, even though the whole dance team found a way to make it. Ive waited until school got back in swing, and I've given them a chance to show up, but they haven't. I have probably seen once or twice where most or all of the cheerleaders have been there this spring. Im not flaming anyone, I am seriously asking, what gives?

You know, I just checked the softball schedule, and I have to ask...WHO IN THE WORLD MADE THAT SCHEDULE, Craig Helwig???????? 15 home games and 25 road games. Thats BS!

I think Favre is called a warrior because Brett seems like a humble person. TO, Im not calling him selfish. but how's this for being a pompus arse, When he got hurt, he told the coaches to make sure to tell the team, "Make sure they know they can win without me." This guy needs to be humbled. -
I think they are at the beginning of a dynasty. I do think its odd however, that when they were listing the dynasties before the game, they mentioned several teams, but I failed to hear them mention the Cowboys of the '90's. Maybe they did, but if not, I think its interesting how they won 3 of 4 Super Bowls, didn't the 'Boys do the same thing?
