  1. The Men's World Cup would have never been played on turf like this. Sure teams in Sweden and Canada and Russia play their club games on it, but they wouldn't dare doing it for the Men's World Cup.
  2. Yeah and I'm not advocating defaulting, people are making the choice. But there is an entire generation of kids who were brought up that had it hammered into their brains that the only way to get a decent job was to go to college and take those loans with the promise that everything would pan out okay. Truth is for a lot of kids, the jobs simply aren't there. And that's fine if you wanna say "hey not my problem they made bad financial decisions" but in the bigger picture it's everyone's problem. Coming out of school being weighed down by debt means graduates are pushing so much of their earnings towards paying it down that they're not contributing to the economy; they're not buying houses, or having kids, or making purchases that that demographic would have made in the past.
  3. I think some of the older graduates on here simply don't realize how much tuition has increased relative to inflation. I remember reading an article about a year ago that in 1979 you could work a full time minimum wage job in the summer and that would cover all your tuition expenses for that school year. 10 weeks at a full time job at minimum wage = no student loans for tuition. I remember when I first started at UNT in the fall of 2001 when my parents could help me out. My stepdad practically lost his mind when he found out how much my residential parking sticker was ($165 I think). I remember him stating that his UT Tyler parking pass in the late 80's was only $25.
  4. Racked up about 35k in my years at UNT. I whittled that down to 22k over the course of about 7 years, but since my divorce about a year ago it's been impossible to pay anything close to what I was. 8 years out of school and I'm finally reaching the level of salary I need to make sustainable payments on them. Now it just kinda feels like an extra car payment I guess, with much higher interest.... Had I not had kids though I wouldn't have needed to take out so much, and I probably would have been close to paying them off by now.
  5. Disappointing but I think the Gold Cup break will work in our favor a little bit. At least this time we looked like we belonged on the same pitch as our opponents. I don't know if that says something about us, or San Jose though. The first red card on Sherrod was absolute garbage, and the one on Watson was pretty harsh. It's a shame that's what dictated the game more than the play itself. Gotta get Castillo back in the lineup though. Really hurts without him.
  6. Just that ping in general. No reason they can't use wooden.
  7. DBU's field is a joke. Turf batter's boxes should be illegal. Also aluminum bats suck.
  8. Going to the nearest community college and living with my parents would have meant 2 more years of sharing a bedroom with my little brother, not to mention having classes with a LOT of my high school classmates. Even in debt I don't regret doing my entire academic career at a university.
  9. Frisco is where the future growth lies, but dammit if that future growth is just a bunch of soccer moms then what good is it doing? Stand in the beer garden with the Dallas Beer Guardians for the best experience.
  10. If you kept up with soccer at any other time besides when there's controversy like this, you'd know why they (unfortunately) did.
  11. GTFO Rick. There's plenty of other threads for your trolling.
  12. Oh I selfishly meant somewhere that pertains to my well being and affects me. I had no plans to go to Bastrop State Park, and it wasn't some sort of dam that drowned 100 people. I know there was that small lake that had potential break in Midlothian, but most of it would drain into Joe Pool Lake anyways.
  13. I won't complain about all the rain until a levee breaks. Better than 105, even if I can't swim in it.
  14. Would highly recommend The Smithsonian Channel if you are lucky enough to have it on your cable subscription. It's what Discover/History/TLC channels used to be.
  15. I'm not gonna bother. My Texas History teacher friend was basically pulling her hair out last night.
  16. Was kinda pulling for Hull to stay up.
  17. Don't worry, I'm sure if he did he'd find a way to go back and help enable skynet.
  18. Small tidbit about Eli Young band... Was in summer freshman orientation in 2001 and the lead singer Mike Eli was my RA/orientation leader guy. After all of the day's activities when people were free to mill about he opened his door to anyone in our group/sister girl's group to just chill and talk and answer and questions. He put on some early Eli Young songs and was like "yeah we're just a little Texas country college band, we've played a few gigs" but played it off like it was nothing. Funny seeing them blow up to the national scene 4-5 years later.
  19. Huge win against a really good Galaxy team with or without Robbie Keane. It shows we're true contenders.
  20. You can't plow ICE. As in freezing rain and melted/refrozen precipitation. Where/when did I say that? But keep hanging your hat on DFW having a few days with ice. I'll trade that any day for the 95% humidity in your swampass city.
  21. Dynamo fans literally can't share a beer with FCD fans. We've tried. They're all a bunch of sh-t talking Green Street hooligan wannabes who damage our stadium, our parking lot, and get arrested. I'd cry no tears if their (empty) stadium caught on fire.
  22. Oh? You can't plow ice...if you try then it'll pull up road reflectors and you've got a bigger problem. Nevermind the damage that they do to road you are plowing. In Chicago there's 2 seasons - snow and road construction. And DFW invests in plenty of salt trucks, try again.
