Oil Continues Free-fall
Coffee and TV replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Damn anti-American Veterans. They're everywhere! Meanwhile, back in realityland... This is why there's no vote on offshore drilling. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/08/05/energy.debate/?iref= -

Oil Continues Free-fall
Coffee and TV replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
How out of touch is Barack Obama? He's so out of touch that he suggested that if all Americans inflated their tires properly and took their cars for regular tune-ups, they could save as much oil as new offshore drilling would produce. Gleeful Republicans have made this their daily talking point; Rush Limbaugh is having a field day; and the Republican National Committee is sending tire gauges labeled "Barack Obama's Energy Plan" to Washington reporters. But who's really out of touch? The Bush Administration estimates that expanded offshore drilling could increase oil production by 200,000 bbl. per day by 2030. We use about 20 million bbl. per day, so that would meet about 1% of our demand two decades from now. Meanwhile, efficiency experts say that keeping tires inflated can improve gas mileage 3%, and regular maintenance can add another 4%. Many drivers already follow their advice, but if everyone did, we could immediately reduce demand several percentage points. In other words: Obama is right. http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/...00.html?cnn=yes -
I Survived Rita!

Sorry, thought it was obvious to everyone and their dog that these two storms are in no way alike. I was just making the comparison about the similar attitudes towards each of them. -

This almost assures that this will be +1 to the Dems in the Senate. Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich is the presumptive Democratic nominee, and he's already leading in a lot of polls over Stevens. Stevens will be the nominee unless he drops out BEFORE the primary. After the primary Republicans cannot change the nominee if he were to resign. Governor Palin could appoint another Republican to fill the void and then hope for them to retain the seat in November, but there's been some corruption issues amongst the top-tier Republicans in the state. The Lt Governor is Republican, but he is running for the House seat. So all-in-all, its a goofy situation going on in Alaskan politics right now. -
Gas Prices

I'm not sure, but the whole 'environmentalists keeping oil refineries from opening' is total horseshit to begin with. Opening new refineries when oil was $10-$15 a barrel for the last 20 years would have been pointless. Its the same reasons the oil sands in Alberta were never an option until recently as well. -

What's odd is that if the Jackass guys pulled this off as a stunt (with no one dieing of course), it would be hilarious. -

Brazil also uses sugar cane for most of their ethanol I believe. Maybe some mustard seeds too. If we could ever figure out how we want to work politically with Cuba they could be sitting on a goldmine of fuel. -

Even by the absolute highest estimates and optimism over how far technology can reach to the depths of the earth, there will be no oil in about 100 years. Oil is a fossil fuel created by carbon deposits millions of years ago, it just can't replinish as quickly as we consume it. -
Or you can give them a call and say "hey this is for the stadium you keep proposing, get busy". Nowadays candidates running for office get more attention for how much money they've actually raised rather than any polling that is done.

I took a round-trip to Austin last week for a job interview. 40.5 mpg. Considering I'd be living in the city and possibly riding my bike if I got this job (or driving only about 5 miles round trip), high gas prices can suck it. -
I have a source that states deals are in place for both presidential candidates that in exchange for building their presidential library they will fund our stadium. McCain has requested under one condition that the team bus be renamed the straight asskickin express, while Obama's condition is that we'll schedule a home and home deal with Hawaii every 2 years.
