  1. I just don't see the Todd Dodge thing happening. What a gig he's got...never loses, is King of Southlake, no pressure. Sure, he'd make a little more money here, but the headaches would compound exponentially. A lot of people on here seem to be fired up about him, but what makes anyone think he could be successful at the D1A level? Are there any precedents for a successful h.s. coach going straight to a D1A HC job and being successful?
  2. Agreed. George is greatness!
  3. Uh, these would not be excuses, these would be facts. No doubt, though, we will see immediate improvement because any new coach will likely have better discipline and put the players in better situations. Then, once he gets some of his own recruits in the starting lineup, there should be significant improvement...and it shouldn't take 3 years. If it does, he too, should be gone.
  4. Can someone provide a brief synopsis of George's comments regarding the DD firing?
  5. No to singling out specific players. As far as Dickey goes, the results speak for themselves. We have not made the strides a program should have given the size of the school and it's location. Weak recruiting augmented by poor play calling and discipline.
  6. Our fan support would be better than TCU's if we were as successful as they have been in recent years. Even when they were in the top 15 or so, they still weren't drawing like they should have. Perhaps because TCU is a relatively small, private school. If we ever had that kind of success, you wouldn't be able to get a ticket to a MG game.
  7. This is a running joke with me and a friend of mine. We never see it either.
  8. Must've hired SMU's ticket counter because there were only 7,000 or so actually there.
  9. I lept to my feet in surprise.
  10. I'll be there. I'm expecting 7 of 8 tickets to be utilized.
  11. If Dr. Bataille stands up and makes the following speech and follows through with actions, money will not be a problem. "Students, Alumni, faculty, staff, friends and fans of North Texas...this University has, for far too long, been relegated to the shadows when it comes to our athletic programs. I am, today, committing to you that the administration of this University, along with the Board of Regents, is fully committed to bringing this fine institution into national prominence in the area of our athletic programs. No more hollow promises, no more "some day we hope to...". Today, we do it. We will build a new football stadium, we will seek a better conference affiliation, we will have a baseball team, we will compete at a national level in all our sports. My staff and I, along with the Board, are fully committed to making this a reality. A new day is dawning at North Texas and we hope you'll join us for the ride."
  12. Bingo! You are so right. If the administration decides that having a high profile athletic program is a priority, then it WILL happen. If it's on the backburner somewhere, then it won't happen. Simple as that. Unfortunately, I have not seen evidence that this administration recognizes that the outside world's window to any public university is its athletic programs.
  13. The Ticket in the morning. At other times, 92.5 KZPS, 93.3 The Bone, 100.3 Jack FM. The Bone has really gone bad in the past few months, though. They obviously had some type of format change and now it kinda sucks.
  14. Bottom line is that the fb program at NT is simply not living up to or even approaching its potential. We are located in a hotbed of fb talent. Let UT, A&M, OU and TTech have their share. There's plenty for everyone. Our facilities (aside from Fouts) are outstanding. We should have better athletes and they should be put in better situations so that they can be successful. There's only one direction that you can point the finger and that's the coaching staff!
  15. To Coach Dickey and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Hope you have a speedy and full recovery.
  16. I was actually pleasantly surprised that 10K (butts in seats) actually bothered to show up. I was expecting a morgue. You can't be disappointed when people are still showing up despite last season and the way this one has started. Don't be disappointed in attendance, be disappointed in the product!
  17. I love the waltz version.
  18. Looked like about 14K butts in seats. Lots of empty seats mixed in.
  19. Maybe so, but these guys have given up on this staff. Pride only goes so far and if you don't have any faith in those at the top, you're just not going to lay it on the line for them.
  20. NT - 13 FIU - 10 Att. - 11,600
  21. nm
  22. Travis, I do not blame you at all. The equation seems pretty simple to me...the administration demonstrates a commitment to building a successful program, donations go up. They choose not to, donations go down. You are not saying that you will not give until the program has reached a certain level of success, you are merely stating that you need some assurance that that is the direction the program is headed. I have no problem with that.
  23. mediocrity - moderate to low quality; average. I would be thrilled if we were mediocre. Not satisfied, but it sure would be better than being pathetic. Mediocre would be the teams in the 50 - 70 range, like OSU, KU, Miami, Akron, Iowa St. Like I said, "thrilled".
  24. Now, let me think...which public universities have a reputation nationally? University of Texas Texas A&M Michigan Penn St. Alabama OU UCLA LSU Arizona St. Florida St. Ohio St. Va. Tech Tennessee Notice anything all of these have in common?
  25. It's a no-brainer for me. Give me the Tech scenario over the SMU/Rice scenario any day.
